Beautiful day here at Headquarters. I'm perched in the EJ Whitten stand, front row. Dogs have some familiar names running around and we Matthew Boyd is particularly vocal. Looks set for a big afternoon.

All three senior emergencies playing. Clay started on ball. We've missed a couple of scoring opportunities early; finally Bruhn goals from a set shot after a strong mark at 40m forward pocket.

We're kicking to the Geelong Road end against a gentle breeze.

Great team goal. English backwards over-the-head tap to Lipinski; handball to Williams, two bounces through traffic to Bruhn who takes a strong mark and nails the set shot from 30m.
Dogs 15 Werribee 9

Lipinski gets fifty for some rough treatment after a mark; goals from point-blank. He's playing a great game, rotating through the centre.

English, Lipinski and Williams - 3 guys you will be hearing a lot about in the future.

Quarter time
Footscray 3-6-24
Werribee 2-4-16

First ten minutes was fairly even. Dogs asserted themselves for the remainder of the quarter until Werribee scored from a cheap free before the siren. Both sides have been wasteful in front of goals - we could/should have had an eight-goal quarter.
Of our senior listed players, Lipinski has been in everything and is all class; M Boyd very good as you'd expect; Webb, Williams, Roberts good. Clay has been okay.

edit: scoreboard adjusted a quarter time; evidently one behind disallowed

We finally open our account in the second - Bruhn from a set shot after another strong mark.
Earlier two very gettable set shots from NMM should have been majors. We have been untidy and I can't figure out what we're trying to do with the forward structure: we're literally lining up with a full-forward and two forward pockets anchored deep as if it was 1973.

Dec Hamilton gets a lot of the ball but can be wasteful with it. Finally slots through a goal from set shot 30m directly in front following a neat pass from Gowers. Dogs 40 Werribee 25

Who is Bruhn? - seems to be doing ok near goals.

66. ANTHONY BRUHN

Height:
186cm
Weight: 80kg
D.O.B.: 09/03/80
Previous Club: Frankston YCW

Recruited from Frankston YCW after a successful period down on the Mornington Peninsula, Bruhn will provide a goal scoring outlet inside 50. Good overhead, the 186cm mid-sized forward is a renown goal kicker.

Half time
Footscray 5-10-40
Werribee 3-7-25

Goals: Bruhn 3, Hamilton 1, Lipinski 1

We struggled that quarter; Werribee running it out of defence far too easily. Thank goodness for Fletch saving us on a couple of occasions after they'd got the break and had space in their forward line.

Matthew Boyd having an impact, probably our best. Roberts outstanding. Collins has been solid alongside Fletch. Lipinski quieter that quarter. Webb not having as much impact as previous home games I've watched. Tim English has a touch of class which makes up for the bigger-bodied Werribee ruck's dominance. Clay been okay without starring. Bailey Williams playing with intensity (expect he'll not appear after half-time given all three senior emergencies lined up here).
I'm off to warm up with a coffee. Saturday afternoon Whitten Oval - the perfect prelude to our resurgence tonight.
