I knew about that, but figured at the time, it would just be his local club that VFL players play when not selected for a VFL side.

Could've sworn I saw a Jetta re-signing post late last year. Must've decided he had enough after he started pre-season, couldn't do pre-season again, fair enough!

They put him down on the vfl site as one of the resignings, but there was nothing from the club on it.
And i hadnt seen him train or even be present at the vfl sessions.

Of course he was only there to help out the younger boys. Maybe they have confidence they can hold themselves up with the new recruits, and they did fare pretty well v richmond
Either way, its a good sign of faith they think the program is in good shape if he isnt' gonna be playing.

Yeah which means he'll play for castlemaine. He had signed with them leading into pre-season. And maybe thats his level.

Yeah, reckon we'll be fine. He can focus on coaching, but no doubt be there for advice if they need it. But they must have confidence he isnt needed as much as previously. Good signs

All different types, I know, but Ryan, TJ & now Sof give them plenty of options.
Nev J may be getting more coaching responsibilities too, I guess.

I wonder if Sofronidis signing for a VFL team is a sign about Murphy’s future.

I wouldn't think so, considering we have Dean and also Ryan, who can play that defensive intercept role, and also TJ will develop nicely into a intercept defender in the coming seasons...

I was talking to a VFL assistant coach about this and one of the issues he has is they'll scout good players but nobody wants to play for a team that pays far less than local footy and won't do under the table payments. Even amateur players who aren't supposed to be earning from their playing or earning very little can negotiate some really good terms like scholarships for children (or future children) or other secret payments.

It's been going on forever. The second best tier of footy should be paid accordingly. The part that annoys me a bit is the dangling of a possible AFL spot in front of them. I admire the guys who like to be playing against the best possible opposition but you really can make a good dollar playing elsewhere.

Sofrinidis had so many offers to play around. VFL, VAFA, local footy. Collingwood was not the side paying the best but he’s signed for a reason. I didn’t know what I thought of him but he’s a quiet, well-spoken chap. The sort you want at a club. Another no-hassles operator.
