I was trying to work out if I was a little late starting this thread compared with previous seasons, but upon checking saw that we were approx the same time period last year

We've had a few VFLW announcements over recent weeks, so hence kicking off this thread

We'll start with the most important news, and that's the fixture;

2025 rebel VFLW Season

The rebel VFLW competition will be played in a new season window, with the 2025 campaign to be played from April to August. The competition has been played from March to July over the past two seasons.

The opening round of the 2025 rebel VFLW season will begin the weekend of April 18-20, while the final round of the home and away season will be played the weekend of August 2-3.

The competition will consist of a 14-round home and away season, which will be played across 16 weeks and feature two competition byes.

The rebel VFLW finals format will remain unchanged, with the top-six teams on the ladder at the conclusion of the home and away season to qualify for the 2025 rebel VFLW Finals Series.

All matches in the 2025 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via AFL.com.au, the AFL Live Official App and the VFL App. Additional broadcast arrangements will be confirmed shortly.

Ticketing Where Smithy’s VFL matches are ticketed, entry is $10 for adults, $5 for concession holders and kids under 15 are free. Some venues don't charge for entry. AFL ticketing prices apply for VFL matches played as curtain-raisers and curtain-closers to AFL matches.

Entry to VFLW matches is free. Where venues host VFL and VFLW double-headers, entry fees will apply after half time of the VFLW match if played first.

Here's our leadership group

Geelong Cats has confirmed its list for the 2025 rebel VFLW Season and unveiled a new captain, with Mel Staunton to lead the VFLW Cats in 2025.

Staunton will be supported by Abby Favell as vice-captain, with Madi Sexton added to the Leadership Group this season. Last year’s leadership group members Liv Stewart and Poppy Schaap also return for another season.

Staunton, who was a train-on player with Geelong during the Geelong’s 2024 AFLW campaign, said she was looking forward to leading the team in 2025.

We know we've got at least 1 spot open on our AFLW list with Emonson's pregnancy news, wonder if Staunton could be chance to fill that spot - was a train on player with us last season, and as captain of our VFLW it would suggest she's highly rated

rebel VFLW State Team squad announced

A 50-player rebel VFLW State Team squad has been announced ahead of the inaugural representative clash against the SANFLW during Gather Round

The rebel VFLW State Team squad features many of the best VFLW-listed players from across the competition, with all 12 rebel VFLW clubs represented. Players who are currently on AFLW lists are not eligible to be selected.

Players who are injured were not selected in the initial squad, however players can still be added from outside the squad of 50 when the final squad of 21 players to represent the ‘Big V’ is announced during match week.
