Thought I would do some small bio's on WA player's available this year, especially since we maybe trading away pick 45, which I think is madness.

Fraser McInnes 197cm's Perth
Fraser missed the championships due to injury, he is a well built, solid young man who has great closing speed, and is a class user of the footy.
Fraser unlike alot of juniors has always been a defender this gives him a great ability to the read the ball and psoition himself in marking contests.
I personally feel he has been the most underated KP defender in this draft, as I actually think he is the best kp defender in this draft.

Shane Nelson 178cm's West Perth
Shane won the kicking contest at ther draft combine.
He is a tough small inside mid, who has great pace but no real standout abilities. Racks up the footy and has very quick hands.
Ready to play right away, even though he is small.

Jordan Lockyer 190.5 cm's West Perth
Jordan is the son of Barge.
He has played most of his junior footy has a fullback or fullfoward.
At afl level he is to small for a kp spot so will end up as a HBF.
I would actually like to see him played as a centreman in the Mundy mould (a bit likewe use Jordan jones at peel ) as he is very quick strong and is a good kick of the footy.
He is very good footballer but is a tweener size, so hard to pick where he will end up.

Shane Kersten 191cm South Fremantle
Shane is wonderful talent played in south GF colts side. He is very quick a great overhead mark, and can kick the footy a country mile.
He is who I want for our first selection if still available.
GWS passed on him there mistake our possible gain.

Myles Bolger 201cm Ruckman South Fremantle
Missed two years of footy due to foot complaint, has came back this year. He is a very good tap ruckman who likes to get physical.
Needs to work on his core strength, and now that his foot is better start to jump again.
He has grown from 199 to 201cm's and is still growing so height is no longer a issue for him.
Was a junior star at 16's level and has ability to get back to that level again.

Next picks should be available at 45 or higher

Marley Williams 181cm’s

Marley is a solid build weighing 85kg’s he has a great turn of speed. He can do the incredible a bit like a Motlop. His kicking is good can kick 55 metres of one step.
Can play midfield but needs to work on his endurance
If he has a good preseason could play from round one next year.

Murray Newman 177cm Swan Districts

Swannies will know this boy better than me, but I think the kid is someone WCE should look strongly at. I think he is the best small foward available since the best Amad Saad has already been picked up by the saints. Creates space for himself and likes to run and carry is a good finisher and can kick the footy 50 metres.
There is another swans small foward who i think maybe even better will discuss with swannies later.

Brendon AhChee 190cm South Fremantle

Brendon is a ruckman foward that can play on the ball. At afl level see him as a high half foward maybe wingman. He has great running ability like’s to bounce and carry the footy.
He is one of those mercurial talent’s, he just needs to work hard on his fitness to make the best of it.

Steven Verrier 188cm mid South Freo

Steven is one of the better kicks in this draft lovely long kick.
He likes to take the game on, and his run and carry is impressive.
He is a smart kid who knows when to use his speed, reads the play well.
More outside than inside but can do both played mainly half back and wing for souths in there GF colts side.

Max Duffy 189cm East Freo foward

Mercurial talent that has tempermant issues, switched from perth to east freo which hurt his footy. He compares to a Steve Johnson of geelong but has gone missing for chunks of games this year. If he can rediscover his form, some club will have a great talent.
Personally would only pick him as a rookie pick.

Elliot Yeo 188cm mid East Freo

I love this kid was hoping a rookie pick but is now a late draft pick.
Great size smooth mover with very good agility and speed, combine this with his endurance and we have a player. His Combine was excellent top ranking in jumping and agility. He can play the high foward role. Is a very good overhead mark a bit like a Nat Fyfe sticky hands. Someone i would love us to pick up.

Bradley Hill

Well after his sensational combine results first in speed and endurance.
Brad will definately be picked up, unlike his brother when he gets the footy tends to turn in board than outside.
Doesn’t get enough of the footy but when he does uses it well.
If available at our pick would have to consider.

Kyal Horsley 182cm mid Subiaco

Has a long penetrating left foot kick, that can be deadly when he has space.
Plays as a inside mid for subi alot like priddis used to, is very hard at it and loves the contest.Would be a terrific pick up can play straight away, and has a deadly weapon in his left foot.

Waylen Manson 195cm's Foward Claremont

Is a wonderful natural talent but can he relocate to perth ?
Have spoken to Darcy Coffey Claremonts talent manger and even though there is alot of clubs interested in him.
He thinks Waylen best chance of making the AFL is through getting to a perth club, WCE or Freo.
He even qualifies that with he will need alot more than normal help to settle in perth, and will always be a flight risk.
Is he worth it probaly but more likely a bust so its a gamble pick
He is friends with Gerrcik Weedon so hopefully he could help him settle in perth.

Next post will work on rookies

Re: WA Draft Prospect's

Rookies prospects:

Cam Eardley East Freo mid 182cm's

Is a tough hard at it mid, loves the physical side of the game, can be let down by his kicking though.

Nathan Blee 192cm East Perth Defender

Is a good kid great attitude works hard at his game.
Is very quick allowing him to get a hand in to spoil, one of the best defenders in the wafl.

Chad Sandilands 204cm ruckman

Very raw still growing, played a handful of colts games.
Will eventually fill out like his brother, probaly.
He would be a long term punt so rookie is his best spot, freo will need to use there first rookie pick to get him otherwise he will be gone.
Could be a GWS pickup.

Tom Lee 194cm foward Claremont

Ex adelaide player who they dumped to early, very good foward who keeps improving all the time. Very good athletically just needs a club to say yes again.

Will Shea 177cm Swan Districts small foward

Okay Swannies feel free to have your say. I want this kid think he could be better than Newman who is a cert to be picked up.
He has kicked alot of goals is a geunine crumber and has great pace.
He sells candy and hits the scoreboard, makes me stand up and notice, love him.

Hayden Schloithe south freo half foward

Brillant finals series for souths colt team was one of the best in all final games. Kicks goals hunts the footy and is hard at it whats not to like.

Corey Gault 196cm's foward

Is a strong marking player has good footskills.Played part time ruck but is more a foward alot to work with.

Angelo Thomas 180cm small defender

Think wirra type defender but with afterburners this kid has pace and then some burns of opponents.
Sometimes tries to do too much and can turn it over, though thats lack of experience more than any thing.

Alroy Gilligan

I expect him to be a wce player if still available the club has shown strong interest in him.
I love him he is a player I wanted wce to draft instead of that dud we got from geelong a few years ago.
Plays like cyril rioli has xfactor and is hard at the footy, he has matured now and would be a great pick up.

Alex devitt peel 191cm's

Been watching for a couple of years half foward who is a great kick on goal hardly misses. A strong overhead mark and has some presence about him.

Hayden Buscher 191cm's foward/defender

Been one of perths best player's this season. Is quick a strong mark and reads the play well. Too good for the WAFL, should be on afl list.

Re: WA Draft Prospect's

Nice work RE.

I like Mcinnes, Newman and Hill with our first two/few picks.

I like Horsley, Lee, Duffy and Manson as potential rookie selections.

Re: WA Draft Prospect's

I'd like to see us nab Kersten, Gilligan and Verrier.

Just a few quick questions on them RE:

1.)From what I've seen (Not a lot ) Kersten looks to have virtually no defensive side to his game. Is this a misconception by me or is it a definite weakness. If so does he lack application? The reason I ask this is two fold.

One - Position versatility and the ability to build up a big tank.
Two - Defensive pressure by forwards...Absolutely crucial these days.

There does look to be a huge upside though from what I've seen.

2.) Gilligan - I heard that Freo were also very interested and even the Tigers are having another look at him. Do you think he'll go in the draft a lot earlier than people think, if so it worth us using one of our high picks on him given the lack of depth of this draft vs his upside/talent.

He looks all class to me.

3.) Verrier - He seems to do everything pretty well but is he undersized to be a true utility at AFL level. What role do you see as his best?

I'm thinking about wanting a Wirrapunda type player for our back line. Someone with good disposal (sorry Beau) and a very good reader of the play who can lock down when needed.

Ha ha, yes I've had a couple of arguments with a couple of people at Swans that don't really rate this kid. I love him because he's combative as well. I think it was the game against Souths, he, Dayle and Murray were the key reasons we won that game. His pace is electric, especially through traffic, and he's got a fairly mature body. Actually reminds me a fair bit of Rodan, can play through the middle in bursts.

Not sure he'll be better than Murray, because I think he has a lot of upside, but I like him as a rookie option.

My favourites would be Gault, Busher, Bolger, Schloithe. :)

I see you didn't include Devin McFarlane or Kieran Butcher, another 2 mature players I like and would be fantastic pick ups for the Rookie list. Unless they've been pre-listed by GWS?

Kersten is very very quick, quicker than Jack Darling so thats something he should be able to develop, his defensive side.
It is something that needs work though.

Gilligan

WCE are very keen on him on there first pick as a rookie, doubt freo would be a problem as they would be wanting Chad Sandilands.
Didn't know richmond where keen again.

Re: WA Draft Prospect's

Alex devitt peel 191cm's

Would be very happy for Dev to get drafted, especially to us. Was one of my best mates when I lived in WA.

Has always had an amazing left boot. He and Harry Borch used to kick 50m goals at school casually with both feet every lunch time, at age 14. :thumbsu:

Dev's a very, very talented cricketer though, I think if he pursues that he'll take it very far.

Thanks RE for that, great effort. :thumbsu:

Re: WA Draft Prospect's

Lockyer and Newman are amongst my favourites from WA from this draft.

Despite not being able to probably hold down a KPD spot at AFL level, Lockyer would be a worthy choice. Great hands, is capable of playing FF and could be our next Hunter. Just sayin'.

Personally think Newman is a must have, we might just take him at 28. It may be similar to our 2009 draft, where we used one pick to take a slider (or best available), and use the backup to secure a more obscure player who fills a need, but most likely isn't the best available. (Weedon).

Re: WA Draft Prospect's

Great write-up RE, thanks for the time and effort.

With Lockyer, is it so cut and dry that he isn't big enough to play KPD at AFL level?
Glass and Scarlett are barely on the bigger side of 190cm and Dale Morris made a successful career as an undersized KPD at 190cm (albeit with the ability to play on medium types too). Has a good vertical leap so his ability to play KPD could possibly be determined by his strength rather than his height?
How would you compare Lockyer to Blayne Wilson, perchance?

Newman and Kersten certainly looks the goods. Brad Hill intrigues me because a combination of great pace, elite endurance and clean skills should put him in higher stead than he is. Didn't Stephen have similar queries about not getting high enough disposal tallies from memory?

Re: WA Draft Prospect's

Great effort RE.

Being from Vic I'm pretty ill informed on the matter of who we should draft, but I would be really happy with picking up Hill. I know it's really simplistic to look at S Hill and say that Brad being his bro would be equal or better, but that running goal S Hill kicked in the derby and Brads test results (16+ beep!!!) say to me that we should do it. In theory, he's that elusive outside mid with pace we are missing.

Just on Manson and his flight risk, does Peter Matera still do a lot of mentoring over there?

I am no where near as informed as RE but I'll say that I'm still hopeful that JL could play as a full back at AFL level. But more likely as a third tall.

190cm is tall enough to play full forward also, and he has some great hands. He could be a great utility. Is a very aggressive defender also, provides alot of run. I don't know too much about his footskills but they've looked pretty good from what I've seen. Can kick goals from outside 50.

Wilson is a good comparison, in the sense that they are both almost KPDs. Wilson is 187cm, Lockyer is 190cm, but the difference being that Lockyer could still actually play KPD while Wilson has no chance.

Id compare him with Pears only Lockyer is a better defender at junior levels. He's got 4cm on Wilson so he's a half full size up on him, both play very desperate brands of defence.

Newman and Kersten certainly looks the goods. Brad Hill intrigues me because a combination of great pace, elite endurance and clean skills should put him in higher stead than he is. Didn't Stephen have similar queries about not getting high enough disposal tallies from memory?

Id prefer Murrey Newman to Hill, just a little more football smart and his skills are a little better. Brad is a lot like Stephen predraft just without his lethal boot and massive champs behind him.

On lockyer i would like to see his reach results if anyone has them. Some players are at a natural reach advantage/disadvantage. Daniel rich with his tyrannosaurus arms being a disadvantage and sam reid from sydney being one with an advantage.

For example if lockyer were to have a 2cm reach advantage on average for his height then he would legitimately be a key position prospect where as even with his very, very good attack on the ball if he were to have a 2cm reach disadvantage on average in relation to his height there is no way in hell he could successfully hold down full back.

On Mcinnes think GWS will take him at 14 in a slight reach and freo pretty much certain to take him with either 16 or 20. TBH with freo not getting clark i think they will take mcinnes and kersten.

As far as our picks are concerned im hoping for us to use 3 picks in the draft. At 45 if available i'd take newman, if not available i'd jump in then and take gilligan as i think at that point in this draft if you want a specific player the reach between rookie and full list spot is very little.

Putting my conspiracy cap on i think we'll play reasonably safe this year and take nelson at 23 and lockyer at 28. Really like bolger and 12-24 months ago rated him as the best ruck in his age bracket but with us picking up lycett last year and already having nicnat i dont see it as a need and think it would be a bit of a waste.

As far as rookies go if yeo lasts that long would love to take him and if we dont take gilligan earlier he would be my first pick there.

No Rhys Waters or matt Jupp? Be interesting to see the mature age guys that go from WA, there are a number well worthy.

Ha Ha, but I had forgotten Waters as well Snoop, and I really rate that kid.:thumbsu:
