WA won 13.9.87 to Vic Country 6.10.46

Best : Toovey, Bower, Swallow, Seal, Thornton and Conway.
Seal kicked 4 goals and Mitch Clark kicked three.

Have to be a few All Australians from WA,

including Swallow, Bower, Jetta
possibly Toovey, Kennedy & Ryder

from the carnival Clark shouldnt get All Australian but by all accounts still a top 10 pick

Selwood and Drum good again! #19 i thought did pretty well. Ellis did some nice stuff. God they need some forwards though!

Pendlebury was one of the few VC players to win his position all day. Did well on a flank and quite well when moved into CHF. Not bad for a regular winger. Moves well and has good disposal on both sides.

NAB AFL under-18 championships

Sandgropers hang in

Western Australia has kept its NAB AFL under 18 championship title hopes alive after it comfortably overcame Victoria Country by 41 points at Optus Oval on Sunday.

The Sandgropers 13.9 (87) defeated the Country 6.10 (46) in the first match of the division one double-header, held on the final day of the carnival.

But Western Australia's chances of winning the title hinge on the outcome of the final match between Victoria Metropolitan and South Australia, which will be played on Sunday afternoon at the same venue. At this point, Vic Metro holds the edge.

For Vic Country, it ended a disappointing championship, as it failed to win a match, after going down to South Australia by 51 points and Vic Metro by 38 points in its previous matches.

Western Australia set up the win with seven goals to one in the first half and although Vic Country lifted its game after the long change, it was still outscored by the Sandgropers after half-time.

Matthew Seal was a terrific performer in Western Australia's win, booting four goals and finishing the match with 24 disposals. He also raked in nine grabs in a best-on-ground display.

Highly-rated Western Australian Mitchell Clark snagged three majors, while teammate Andrew Swallow continued his impressive carnival, claiming 22 touches.

Joel Selwood - the younger brother of AFL players Adam and Troy - was Vic Country's best player, claiming 24 touches. He again highlighted why he will be one of the most sought after players in next year's NAB AFL Draft. Tim Looby and Robert Eddy were others to stand out.

Western Australia had the edge in the first quarter, when it booted four goals to zip, claiming a 22-point lead at the break. Seal had an outstanding term, booting three goals.

Vic Country managed its only goal of the first half during the second term, via Selwood, as Western Australia ran away to a 39-point at the main break.

The Sandgropers extended the margin to 51 points mid-way through the third quarter to end any hope of a Vic Country comeback. And despite two in a row from Country late in the term, it still trailed by 37 points heading into the final stanza.

Vic Country kicked the opening two goals of the last quarter, to offer some fleeting comeback signs, but when Western Australia hit back with four of the remaining five majors, the result was never in doubt.

VICTORIA COUNTRY: 0.3 1.4 3.7 6.10 (46)
WESTERN AUSTRALIA: 4.1 7.7 9.8 13.9 (87)
GOALS - Vic Country: Simpkin 2, R.Eddy, Looby, Neagle, Selwood
Western Australia: Seal 4, Clark 3, Ballantyne, Collard, Conway, Kennedy, O'Brien, Swallow
BEST - Vic Country: Selwood, Looby, R.Eddy, Thomas, Pendlebury, Bowe
Western Australia: Seal, Swallow, Conway, Heise, Jetta, O'Keefe, Toovey, Taggart, Clark
UMPIRES - Brown, McDonald, Reeves
At Optus Oval

Taggart and pendlebury were both named in "best" so it must have been a pretty even contest!
the fact that W.A thrashed Vic Country should also indicate which of the two won the day!!

WA named halfof there squad as best. They probably do this on a rotation system. Oakley-Nicholls played a very good game and missed their top 9. Taggart was soundly beaten in the last quarter by on of the few VC forwards prepared to have a real dip. You will also notice that Looby and Eddy were named in VC best. Depending on how you saw the game, that is very open to interpretation.

im pretty sure that the people who chose the "BEST" were also at the game as well.
obviously W.A had a greater number of "best" players because the flogged S.A!!

last time i checked games were played in 4 quarters!

If you were there you would of noticed that they only played on each other for the last quarter. Don't make silly statements based on what you read. Make your opinions based on what you have seen.

do you have stat's for the two players for the last quarter then?
my last message was in regard to your comment about W.A chosing more "best" players!
even if Taggart was beaten by pendlebury a few times in the last quarter he obviously played a very good first 3 quarters.

Pendlebury didnt kick a goal? maybe Vic Country use your apparent rotation theory as well!

If Taggart didn't play on Pendlebury for 4 quarters please tell me who did?

If you can't, please tell me who Taggart played on for the 1st 3 quarters.

taggart played on pendlebury in the last half when he was moved to chf, was to slow and didnt have endurance to go with him, in the first he was on hanson

i really cant understand these comments, how did taggart get in the best if he played like your all saying?
or are you just a bunch of dissapointed Vic Country supporters?hmmmmmm...
i will bet any money Taggart has greater endurance and speed then nearly all 6ft3 88kg players in NAB cup !
He was state rep in 400m and 800m, explain how he has no endurance and isnt quick?
If pendlebury is that good surely he would have kicked at least 1 goal!!
if taggart didnt do is job then pendlebury would have kicked goals, which he didnt!!!!

according to "Dyer_ear" he only played on pendlebury for the last quarter........ and incase u hadnt read his 100 other messages "he was at the game"
