Russia, regardless who is in power, doesn't get to unilaterally declare a ceasefire. The new guy can call for a ceasefire all they like, but without Russia making significant concessions (e.g. Russia withdrawing to the Feb 2022 line of control), Ukraine will not agree to a ceasefire. The most likely I see is another KGB / KGB puppet, who'll initially call a 'ceasefire', but not withdraw and try to negotiate to hold onto the Donbas and Crimea, 'giving up' Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in return.
I agree with all this. The 'ceasefire' call, like the existing periodic ones, would only be to buy time and to try and turn the current situation on the ground into a permanent reality. I just can see a new Russian leader calling for one to 'show they different'.Russia, regardless who is in power, doesn't get to unilaterally declare a ceasefire. A ceasefire is not a prerequisite for peace negotiations, and from the Ukrainians perspective, a ceasefire only buys Russia more time to fortify their position.
Nah Russia has long been clandestinely funding alot of the RWNJ crowd in the west. Works a treat causing the fracturing of civil institutions.‘Utterly crazy’: PM announces more funding to Ukraine

This was posted by a Sky News watcher on our board and is a bit concerning.
Why would Sky News Australia be pushing this ? I would have thought our RWNJ brethern in Australia would be pro Ukraine ?
Because Sky News is anti Labor?‘Utterly crazy’: PM announces more funding to Ukraine

If the Libs were doing this, they'd be saying it's the right decision and it'll bring long term stability to the area once Russia is expelled.
Going down the path of saying we are not doing enough is too risky with The current cost of living crisis. She is just a Tucker Carlson wannabe.I get that Sky Lies is anti-Labour but the Libs were supporting Ukraine as well. Right leaning democratic media would say that Labour is not doing enough.
Sky Lies is anti-democracy, becouse Lies Corp is anti-democracy, which thankfully the libs in Australia are not yet, unlike the republications in the US.
It would be shameful, if Putin did it, which he will not, for that reason.History suggests if an army man takes over with the fear factor, and puppets remaining in place - people don't like to rock the boat and put themselves in danger. I wouldn't suggest its highly unlikely.
Russia is a proud country, and having to scuttle off back to the pre-Crimea invasion boundaries would be shameful for them.
Theres also an indoctrinated hate for the West.
Hopefully you are right, but if its true that Putin is on the way out its a precarious time.
Let's hope so.It would be shameful, if Putin did it, which he will not, for that reason.
But a successor can blame the war on Putin, suggest it was an error on Putin's part, and pull out, claiming the moral high ground. No shame involved, except for a now dead Putin.
It would also be the best way to a fast resolution of sanctions with the West.
Putin's war was a mistake, oops, he is gone, we ended it. Now about those sanctions?
I mean, if Putin has become unpopular enough to remove, then what apart from the war and the sanctions would explain this? So, a successor continuing a policy that got his predecessor removed would be odd.

I struggle to imagine them pulling out of Crimea going down well no matter how they play it. The rest of Ukraine is a much easier sellIt would be shameful, if Putin did it, which he will not, for that reason.

Sadly Cap, I think it's wishful thinking. The original source is a single Telegram account. So what do people make of the rumours of Putin being dead .
Russia hikes key rate to 15% in bigger-than-expected rise
Russia's central bank raised its key interest rate by a higher than expected 200 basis points to 15% on Friday, hiking borrowing costs for the fourth meeting running in response to a weak rouble and stubborn inflation pressure.
I wonder what behind the scenes work is going into setting up the logistics and maintenance hubs they will need to keep flying once ukraine has the jets.In Denys Davydov's video released today he mentions that Ukrainian pilots are now in Arizona getting F16 training. He comments that this practical training takes approx 3 months or more. He also explains that the advent of this training being underway means that the theoretical training has already been successfully completed. [Denys' video on Youtube]
