Toast Warren Tredrea - Elected to the Port Board (Football discussion only)

It's very dissapointing that Cahill, Ginever and other past Port people don't speak up publicly about the need for change.

More respect for Tredders I guess. He put his ass on the line for the sake of the club and us supporters. It would have been easier to stay quiet. Although bet he's feeling vindicated this morning. He's whole criticism of Ken and the club played out like clockwork.

It's at the stage where I feel it is much more than disappointing.

Agreed pieman, Tredders is doing a sensational job on his own of highlighting the continued inadequacies of kern, koch and co, but he/we need support from other past players, or even a coach like eg Jack Cahill.
If a bloke like Cahill went bang, crash, wallop on these *ing frauds he would obviously cop plenty of flack, but I suspect he would also get plenty to sit up and take notice as well.

I can recall a group of glenelg members going bunta over what they saw as that club's utensil ups in the 1970's, some of them hung banners on the grandstands that were clearly visible to traffic on Brighton rd and the rear of one was graffitied.
I'm not recommending the graffiti bit for Alberton, but the overall effect was front page stuff in the newspapers at the time.

Over the years there have been a few supporter lead successful insurrections. When the VFL attempted to move Footscray out of Melbourne the Bulldogs Members lead the effort to keep them in Footscray. I can also remember a load of pig manure being dumped at the doors of the Richmond Footy Club by a disgruntled supporter. Then when the VFL attempted to merge Hawthorn and Melbourne Don Scott and Co got organised and lead a successful supporter revolt. Of course times have changed and club members have less clout these days but if someone organised a rally and enough members threatened to withdraw their Memberships someone on the Board might take notice. A rally of a couple of thousand supporters with Tredders in attendance and plenty of 'Sack Koch' and 'Sack Hinkley' placards marching up the Port Road to Alberton Oval would at least draw media attention during the off season.

It is one thing to have the ideas but the problem is getting it organised.

I reckon there's too much of a big deal made about Tredrea's non-football related 'issues'. They're not issues for you or me or anybody but himself and his family. He's not madman.

I don't think it is bad PR. It pales into insignificance compared to Kennett, Eddie, Clarkson and Fagan, to name a few.

If a conglomerate of notable and professional Port Adelaide people organised themselves and properly pushed for change, then change can happen, but sadly we only have Tredrea speaking. The AFL endorses directors with notable professional standing, they won't care if the president is Koch or some other person with notable professional standing.

I have not posted that I will hold Tredders personal views against him as regards the Port Chairmanship. He is entitled to his views but I am also entitled to mine and I while I do not agree with his views on vaccination I choose to compartmentalise the issues.

It does not matter what you or I think it is the way the AFL see things that ultimately matters. The AFL is very conscious of it's public image and if they see Warren or any other person taking on an official role as bad for their image it will not happen. As things stand I have no idea how the Club Chairmanship is determined. I have absolutely no idea how Koch landed the job but I suspect his Chairmanship had to be endorsed by both the AFL and the SANFL. No one has been able to outline the process for picking a Chairman on this site or any other website that I can find.

I agree though, any move for change has to start with the Members but finding those notable and professional Port people isn't that easy. I would add a rider as such people should be notable and professional but also have some prior experience and involvement with the game. When he was appointed David Koch might have been described as a 'notable professional' but his shortcoming is he had no background and experience in running a sporting body.

It is like he is tapped the vein of the Bigfooty Port board.

Not bad for a bloke in to People Smuggling.

I don't know where he finds the time. From experience People Smuggling is hard.

Is he on 5AA today? Hopefully he runs with this same stuff.... which I think he mainly will, but will have the Clown Show Rowe jumping in on him.
I hope Tredders snots him and his three chins into the middle of next week.

Verbally, of course. I would never condone beating up on the special needs kid.

On after 5pm but if you miss it. Check out the Youtube live stream and you can scan back to the time where he is on. Best thing 5AA has ever done.

a cathartic 20 minutes or so from WGT .

he is and was 100 % right and should be taking a victory lap.

still feel like nothing will change. im just so numb

He needs to get more ex players on board and drive a campaign of champions.
