“Council will contribute $5 million towards the facility, which is required to provide at least 20 hours per week for community use, with Hawthorn responsible for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep.”
have they totally shelved the 2 community ovals and community pavilion in the 2019 plan or will that be part of a further stage? IMG_3910.jpeg

Based on links earlier in this thread the community pavilion will come eventually but the community indoor sports facility has been scrapped.

Not sure on the timeline for the pavilion either, suspect the 'community' aspect with this facility was an exercise in story telling to receieve fuding.

Interesting tidbit.
The HFC landholding is a fair way from the SRL for any railway related infrastructure. It could be for a construction staging yard possibly. HFC have to pay for the Kennedy Centre construction somehow and it was always thought (that was my impression) that some areas of the site could be sold off.

Maybe it has now been placed as a condition of the Vic Govt funding to 'gift' some land in exchange for funding.

i mean I don’t know what to say but maybe if they build a train station games against smaller clubs like the suns and giants held there when Tassie enters the comps?
This is a great idea for the AFLW. But let's be clear, the club must demand home games at the G.

I haven't gone through the plans in great detail, because I know the end product will differ slightly. But I envisage the day when we play interstate and the Hawthorn faithful congregate at Dingley in the thousands to watch on the big screen, what an atmosphere that would be .... Definitely need a train station to accommodate the masses.

Bit of a leap to train station. The article doesn't mention what the parcel of land is required for. They might just want to dump soil or store equipment or something.

That’s why it’s turning into soccer fields ;)
Oooooo Oh Snap GIF

Soccer fields including juniors, touch footy, big, modern playground.

Used to be a hole in the ground we chucked rubbish into.
Had my son's birthday party there this year, really nice setup.

Need to pull the pin sooner rather than later if that is all true. Costs will have gone up 50% since we bought the land. We cannot risk getting ourselves into financial trouble. At least scale it right back. Forget the AFL ground - Box Hill is being upgraded in the summer of 24/25.

I understand why some want to wait - it’s a huge debt to carry and they do need all the ducks lined up to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible.

on the flip side it’s not going to get any cheaper

Board has a tough decision to make

Hawks board divided.
Cost blow outs.
Delays expected.
Nobody project managing it.

Yeesh. Wonder if we will do a Dan and pull the plug.
Whilst I’ve never been a great fan of Jeff this is his legacy and visionary in its outcome. I hate the idea of Dingley as a home, dislike leaving Waverley but it’s not Glenferrie and the fact our chief exec fund raiser Just resigned says this is bloody hard work. All of that said asa club we have to get on with it, create the dream and maybe that stupid old bastard who haunts the state liberal party might end up being right on this one.

Issue is we can't stay at Waverley any longer as we are probably 18th for facilities and the players/coaches can't wait to get out of there (exact words from an ex assistant coach).
Glenferrie can't be done due to sizing.
Dingley needs to go ahead and ASAP. As someone alluded too. It isn't going to get any cheaper than now.
