All Purple vs Hawthorn Brown? Hardly clash. Guess AFL are okay with Carlton Home vs Richmond Home, Collingwood Home vs Carlton Home (biggest clash on TV particularly) as well as Kangaroos vs Collingwood yet this is a 'clash'. Pfff.

I'm happy with the all white choice, the purple on white looks uneven anyway.

I don't see the point in this thinking tbh.

The white uniform is as much ours as the purple, it would almost seem disrespectful to make the boys change into a showtime costume after they've just spent two hours putting everything on the line in the white and purple.

Spain did it when they won the World Cup. It was their first World Cup and wanted to wear their true colours, the colours of their flag not some clash black shirt.

When you think of Fremantle you think of Purple not white.

Bit different for us though. Our white strip isn't some random clash jumper we only wear when we absolutely have to, we wear it for 50% of our games.

For me it's pretty synonymous with Freo, maybe not quite as much as the purple strip, but enough that I wouldn't bother changing over just to pose for a few photos when the battle was won in the other one.

Would seem a bit weird and fake to see photos of them holding the cup in a jumper they didn't play in. Wouldn't match my memory of the day.

Most clubs would be embarrassed to wear the change strips on GF Day as they are appalling. However our away strip is so good it doesn't matter at all. Imagine Essendon in the grey concoction or Adelaide in that white thing with the technicolour yawn on one side. Now they are not things you wuold want to see on the dias. The white with the purple chevrons is simple, elegant and just as Freo as the all purple. Anything but the purple tops and white shorts.

Can't be worst than John Terry. He was suspended for the Champions League Final but when his team won he quickly changed into his Chelsea Kit including shorts, shin pads and boots just in time for the photos and trophy presentation.

Now that is shame.

Shit decision is shit.

Shit bending over and copping it is even shitter.

There is no clash between purple and brown shorts whatsoever and yet again, the AFL are inventing rules on the spot.

Issue is Hawthorn refuse to wear their White shorts with there home kit now, thus why the brown away kit was introduced. So no traditional coin toss for the white shorts.

At the end of the day you would wear bright pink if it meant winning a flag, but with the purple haze I would have taken the purple jumpers, even it it meant wearing it with white shorts. I think personally Fremantle should be allowed to wear all purple anyway. There is no clash, and the days of white shorts having to be worn by one team is all over.

2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2012 no white shorts were worn.

Maybe from a TV point of view the colours may clash a little. I'm guessing that's where they are coming from.

Not sure why people are blaming the AFL, they simply asked Freo to wear white shorts, which the lower-qualifying team has done (but not always, admittedly) for aeons. You could wear the purple top with the white shorts, it would look great.

However, I do think you have one of the best away strips in the league, so were I a Dockers fan I'd be happy anyway. Good luck, cobbers!

Its a smart decision by your club. Given that they knew they would have to wear white shorts, it made sense to go the whole way with the white kit.
  • Freo are one of only 2 clubs with a decent away jumper (Port being the other one)
  • From a player perspective, the white stands out more - when Guerra or Birchall takes the kick outs it'll be more intimidating to see the sea of white.
  • Because the game is such a fast blur, it'll make for better decision-making to direct the ball to someone in white rather than purple with white shorts. Sounds nit-picky but that sub-split second indecision could be the difference in a tight GF.
  • Finally, Freo's always had a tradition for innovation - from Neesham's game plan (which is now the norm), to the use of green in their away jumpers, their song...I even remember the classy way Freo farewelled Fitzroy in their very last game. Why can't Freo be the first team to win the flag in their away jumpers?
Good luck - I'll be going for you...even if only because I had a bet on Freo to win the flag at $5 odds many weeks ago.
Enjoy the week like no other

South Fremantle fans mightn't be too aggrieved. A white jumper with a big red/purple V (for victory, obviously) on Grand Final day won't be too foreign...

that is a good point as sth are the incarnation of the original fremantle team, so in some ways it is full circle.

I'm trying to think, but surely Souths and South Melbs were the only clubs to wear white jumpers? I guess North and Collingwood had stripes atop the white, but you wouldn't say their strips were white. White jumpers are in vogue now (which I like, inverting the Port, Pies, and Carlton jumpers is the best clash anyone can come up with), but Freo was the first club to start that trend in the early 2000s – and if it wasn't for a few other clubs flirting with it, it'd still be unique.

So I'm not torn or cut up about it. Purple is unique. But white has a fair bit of relevant for Fremantle. Far out, even Easts had a heap of white in their hoops and penguin-strip jumpers.
