He's not really. He's a KPD who can take his turn and do relatively well in the ruck, he was played forward mostly so they could use him as a decoy for Dixon.

Yep. His natural role is KPD, which didn't suit the chaos-ball we played this year. He willingly moved forward, but was never fully comfortable in role and didn't really provide the decoy. Impey (and later Marshall) were preferred, and the back six had stabilised leaving Jacko on the outer.

Same for his ruck work - he stated himself a few years back he wasn't keen, but developed the flexibility as second ruck for the team.

Even his profile on the PAFC website (which is still there :'() refers to him as a defender. Personally I'd love to see him revel in that role in your colours for 20 games next year. Was equal B&F for us in that role in 2011

Oh, and to the posters suggesting his candidacy for your leadership group? Yes. Obviously you may have existing candidates with tenure, but you could do a lot worse.

Good luck Jacko, it's a shame there's no place in our structure for you.

Fantastic and versatile player who will give your club 100% every time!

JUST DON'T PLAY HIM AS A FORWARD FOR TOO LONG! He is not a natural there.

Good pick-up guys. Sort of the cliche free-agency player we are seeing now in that he's quite capable and if the planets had aligned slightly differently all would be happy for him to still be at Alberton.

Very guarded about what position he'll play - I find it very unlikely that he genuinely has no idea where he'll play. This terrifies me. Surely we can't play him forward/ruck. Surely.
Assume if we have a fwd/ruck it’s Boyd sitting pretty at spot 1, Roughead next in line. I see Trengove as a def/ruck. I’d be totally fine if he was predominately in the ruck and helped down back.

But if we picked him up to play forward then we have rocks in our heads.

Love how he batted away that question where they tried to bait him into saying we’re closer to a flag than Port, he’s clearly a very shrewd operator with the media

Just want to say, I think he has been pretty good since coming back into the side. Often players can take a while to gel but he is doing alright. Particularly impressive considering it can't be that easy being in this side at the moment.

He's turning into a whipping boy, but he's been good down back. Wish Bevo would just leave him there. Chuck Cordy and Naughton next to him and the defence is set for next 5 years.

Was absolutely torched by Hogan and was I'll disciplined on the weekend. Think he has a role but needs to be better than that.

I'd be interested to see how many of Hogans goals were as a result of our turnover through the center of the ground. It's extremely hard to defend from that position, especially against someone with the combination of aerobic capacity and strength as Hogan

His effort to face up to Gawn in the last was disgusting.

He has failed the versatility test, so complete failure.

We don't want players who could hold down and win one position, e.g., KPB.

We want players who can lose at multiple positions...

errr...maybe he passes the versatility test

The Gawn incident appears to have involved a whistle for a free kick - other players stopped. It’s still bad to lose focus and let Hogan go on with it but not as bad as giving up on a live ball which is what I think people thought.

I like the guy but wonder if he was really needed. I suppose we didn’t know we’d get Naughton but we have Adams, Morris, Collins, Roberts, Young and Cordy on the list and can play Roughead back if desperate. He’s better than some of the above but how much better is not clear.

If there is the chance of advantage, it's still a live ball.

While that's a fair question. His positioning in contests was pretty bad for much of the game. Hoping it is just rust from not having played the position for a while.

Yeah I think I am a bit more forgiving of those sorts of goals because it's incredibly hard to tell from our position what the actual defensive set up is supposed to be. All I know is the guy behind me kept yelling to play man on man like it was 1990 haha
