I think that's a biased way to view it. I don't think the "ffs" is necessary. Most dogs supporters would view Mackie as being difficult in this circumstance for not compromising. This dogs supporter that has ventured onto our board has shown the ability to objectively view their position, I like to do the same. Both Mackie and Power are building a reputation of being difficult.
I’ll be very measured in my response

You’re very very wrong and I wish I could be more blunt than that

Ffs indeed

The club is on record with offering pick 17 for a player that clearly doesn’t want to be , that the club clearly doesn’t want him and want to trade him after him being injuries for a full year and hasn’t been offered a contract

Yet there’s only one person in the negotiations holding out for more despite having no leavage in the situation

And you’re saying it’s Mackie

Again wish I could be more blunt

Righto. Bit baffled by your terse response on this and why my posts need you to indicate you're holding back? I welcome you being blunt if you can shed light?

I would think if Mackie offered a little more most Geelong supporters wouldn't criticise him for doing so, so I think there's an ability for him to get this deal done and it wouldn't upset Geelong supporters. If Power folds, he will be criticised by the Bulldogs supporters. I think there is more room for us to give a little bit more considering the criticism that may come both list managers way.

I don't think "it's very very wrong" to think that way but happy to be enlightened. Be blunt if you have to.

Its like lawyers in court … one expects the most ardent advocate no matter how vile the crime…. so no problem with fighting for the best deal … but one has to know when you are kicking against the wind. Each trade situation has its own parameters… In this one you have a strong draft ..and a player that will get thru to the pick offered. You lose traction as a negotiator fighting a losing battle … so he nest hope we offer 57 etc late ..or he will look silly

Because why offer more just to help the other person save face ?

They are acting in bad faith to Smith when it’s clear he’s not wanted at the club yet they are trying to hold out with a threat to the ND…how is that acting in good faith and acting like you want the best deal possible when you have the threat to walk away with nothing because you didn’t get a little bit extra thrown in?

I’m tense because you’re acting like Mackie is acting in bad faith and should just offer more to appease Power reputation

If I was blunt I would get a card

I am still of the opinion that the deal is already agreed upon they are just waiting for the AFL to tell them they will accept the paper work.

But if it isn't and for some reason Mackie gave in a little now what makes you think Power would accept straight away instead of going yay they folded lets see if we can get them to fold again.

I still wouldn't have thought me taking a balanced view on both parties should cause anyone to get angry about that point of view.

I don't think Mackie should do the deal to appease Powers reputation, but I think of the two parties Mackie has more room to move without hurting his own reputation. If Mackie doesn't budge and neither does Power, then doesn't my original statement stand up? That both are building reputation of being thought to deal with?

I also didn't say Mackie should or shouldn't do anything I just said he and power are both being tough to deal with. I'm surprised this is causing such consternation and maybe Ive got it all wrong.

The club would be very mindful of what they want to achieve with their picks , throwing in extra when we have a lot of list spots might not be the best cause of action just because you have sympathy for the Dogs and Power.

The dogs have taken a hard nosed stonewalling approach to all of their trades so far…yet your issue is with Mackie

Cut the bullshit

I don't know mate, in response to Doggies supporter messaging on our board and presenting what I thought was a balanced view of Power I thought I'd show that we are also aware Mackie is quite ruthless. I didn't think I was saying anything that controversial and I've got no idea whether power would accept or not. I just thought both were being quite immoveable and have done so for a couple years. I don't care anymore.

I never said I had an issue with Mackie and just thought both Power and Mackie were being tough in their negotiating. I didn't think that was that controversial to say but I clearly got that wrong.

I think it's clear that club has players and plans for our other picks. Look what we managed to get with low picks last time. Why should we shoot ourselves in the foot to be 'nice' when this competition is doing everything it can to put our club down the ladder using 'equalisation'.

The Bulldogs are a direct competitor and rolled us at home. Unfortunately for them in this case they have minimal negotiating power, that's not our fault. Maybe next time it will be us who has a player want to walk and have to give them up for a value we think is cheap. I have not forgotten the days when Geelong was considered sleepy hollow and attracting top talent was like pulling teeth.

For years and years we have traded out players well under market value to let them continue their career elsewhere , I would think we have a good enough reputation at the trade table.

Bulldogs have been very hard to deal with this trade period as you can see with their other players in that they have rejected offers there as well…they are playing chicken hoping other clubs as well as Geelong fold at the last minute to pay overs.

But it’s a weird stance to be wanting the best deal possible yet make threats to go the ND and get nothing
