You are an idiot !! Sorry. Each No 1,2,3 etc are unique.Harley is not a run all day man; his best is as good or better than anybody I’ve seen play the game and he’s a KID!!And some people aren’t.
Some people were really excited for the first number 1 pick we’ve had in most peoples life times, and look at the last 6-8 months and think “well this isn’t really what we thought we were getting”.
I just wish he focussed playing more on playing footy and less on wrestling and fighting with blokes. You are an idiot !! Sorry. Each No 1,2,3 etc are unique.Harley is not a run all day man; his best is as good or better than anybody I’ve seen play the game and he’s a KID!!
Legit. Some absolute pathetic fans in here.
Media has been scum towards reid since he came here, but some of the eagles faithful are proving to be no better in recent days.
So scared he's gonna leave they turn on their own. No chance is HoneyBadger35 projecting, he's calling it how it is
I think most fans have been supportive. Large overwhelming majority.
Him also not signing or coming out and talking about that is a problem. It’s clear his management is fine letting media loose on talking about his contract and that’s what’s talked about most of the time. Him flopping for frees or fitness was mentioned but barely in comparison. So I’m going to argue that media storm has been initiated by leaks from Victorian clubs and his management.
I for one am happy for him to go if he wants to go and sooner rather than later so everyone can move on.
His managements job is to make sure he gets paid. Even if Harley was 100% set on staying with us it is not in his own self-interest to come out and say that. You are literally a concussion or serious injury from being worth nothing in this caper.
It's just the nature of a contract environment.
The concussion risk should force the kid to re-sign and get some financial security.
All good being promised millions in 2 years time.
I think they basically all choose to take that risk at the start of the career if they are pegged as a "star" and will field ultile offers.
It's only the battlers at the back end of the list who take early deals.
How many players have had their careers ended by injury in the first 3 years?New 3 year initial contract for 1st round picks came in this year.
Historically they re-sign in the 2nd year. A tad risky waiting 3 years before getting contract security IMO.
How many players have had their careers ended by injury in the first 3 years?
Dan Venables.
I can't think of any others.
This is not what the new guidelines state.Has the concussion protocols been changed recently?
Yes they have.
Players report multiple concussions they then need to be medically cleared. If the review committee believes they need protecting from themselves they step in and make a call.
That is the new world football order. So referencing history isn't as relevant as you believe.
A young Bulldogs draftee just got retired in his first season due to concussion. Never played a game. So evidence of this new protocol is less than 12 months old.
Aiden O'Driscoll for the Bulldogs. Didn't even last his first year before concussion panel ended his career. How many players have had their careers ended by injury in the first 3 years?

Good pick up.Aiden O'Driscoll for the Bulldogs. Didn't even last his first year before concussion panel ended his career.

Not many for sure but with tightening protocols, it'd be on their minds, especially as more and more players retire to concussion.Good pick up.
2 players out of 600 odd players drafted since 2016.
This is not what the new guidelines state.
Go have a read and if you want to have a conversation I'm open to it when you have the correct facts.
The opposite is true. With 3 year contracts for first rounders we are seeing less sign up in the first season than previously (small sample). Not many for sure but with tightening protocols, it'd be on their minds, especially as more and more players retire to concussion.
Josh Carmichael from Collingwood.Aiden O'Driscoll for the Bulldogs. Didn't even last his first year before concussion panel ended his career.

Ridiculous but could be what's needed. I always thought Nic should be captain - follow meWCE leadership? Meh!
Duggan should be borderline dropped!
Make HR captain and be done with it. Then watch our youngsters fire up!
Oh I'm not talking about their first or 2nd year but I daresay it'd have an impact on the length of a contract offered. The opposite is true. With 3 year contracts for first rounders we are seeing less sign up in the first season than previously (small sample).
The idea that Harley or anyone is considering concussion in contract negotiations is pretty far fetched.
COLLINGWOOD'S Josh Carmichael has been forced to retire due to ongoing concussion symptoms. The 24-year-old played eight senior games for the Magpies in his two and a half seasons with the club after being drafted at No. 9 in the 2022 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.9 July 2024

WESTERN Bulldogs teenager Aiden O'Driscoll has been forced to retire at the age of 18 due to concussion.
The teenager, who was drafted at pick 55 last November and has not played at AFL level, suffered what the club said was a "significant head injury" during a pre-season training session in January.
The younger brother of Fremantle's Nathan and Emma O'Driscoll, he has been advised to retire on medical grounds.
Not that interested in the fine print of the policy / guidelines TBH. I am simply referring to players being forced into retirement by new AFL standards and policies. Which is now happening.
Someone asked have many young players retired early due to concussion? Is it that common?
Well the rules and how the AFL manage repeat concussions has changed and continues to evolve. Players are being forced to retire early due to concussionswhen previously they did not retire. So using stats from before the new rules were in force is incorrect and misleading.
How many players have been forced into retirement due to the new rules?
THATs the point.

I am sure he and his manager was also happy being paid for fans buying shirts with his face on it as a 19 year old who is harshly done by in public space.
I for one am happy for him to go if he wants to go and sooner rather than later so everyone can move on.
Agree wit the general thrust of this. Also happy if he wants to go (and reckon he will).
As long as he doesn't act in a manner that prevents us getting fair compensation, all power to him and I for one, wouldn't hold it against him.
Particularly given you would have to be a willful blind Freddy to not see that WC has not been a happy camp over the last few years, a more morose group you would struggle to find, with an absence of leadership and/or leaders who can't lead by on field performance for various reasons (old, banged up, injured, not elite).
Young players want a fun environment and whilst winning helps create this, hope on foreseeable future improvement can offset where winning is largely absent.
Also having a bunch of kids brought in together hopefully creates some life long bonds that hold them to a club and I suspect only drafting 5 kids (tiggers 8) reduces the likelihood of this happening.
If Warner does not come, then we can draw a line through those on here that still argue we are a destination club (we haven't been one for a number of years - sorry Bake isn't elite) and we just need to draft kids and more kids.
With respect to GC who came to play and Graham's and Baker's very valiant efforts (but they are limited in both ceiling and scope), I can't see how we could have possibly done any worse by not trading back and using some of our later picks on older, harder bodies to fill the gap.
Graham coming out and saying he will step up and protect Harley is admirable, but I guarantee he ain't dissuading anyone from that course of action, given he has no Mitch Robinson nutter traits and is relatively small.
Commit to drafting another Harley with our bottom 2 pick (hopefully multiple Harleys when we get out priority pick).
