Welcome, Jack Fitzpatrick

Made a post earlier that I thought was in this thread regarding just how shithouse Melbourne are at developing players...needless to say, the Dee fans on the draft and trading board are a little bit frothy at my assertion.

Anyway, I would just about guarantee that Fitzpatrick will be a much improved player now that he's in a system that understands what successful football looks like.

He won't necessarily be required, nor be a best 22 player, but I would back Monkhurst and others in to make him a superior player to the one who was running about for Casey.
Great call mate! im sure our systems & coaches will get the most out of a guy like that. ;)

Just been googling Jack prior to the NAB opener. Got through the HUN paywall (the 1st time) and there was an article which was hyping his pre-season. Apparently it has been very good. His pre-season was being downplayed by the club in the article apparently. Anyway fingers crossed and good luck in your first hit out in the brown and gold Jack.

By the way if you have not read this thread give it a go.

Apologies for the intrusion.

I just want to wish you all the very best with Fitzpatrick. I think he'll go well.

I seriously don't know why we delisted him. He's flexible, very athletic for his size and always provides a good contest. I wouldn't be surprised if he really, really thrived as part of your system.

Cheers. :footy:

if he pans out like Hale did there will be some serious egg on peoples faces, which will continue the tradition we have on BF of getting it massively wrong - See Gibbo is a hack and we paid overs for Burgers threads ;)

Thanks for that mate. All the best!

I think we will likely see Fitzpatrick as that forward/second ruck during the Nab Challenge to give him every chance of impressing for Round 1. Even though he played down back for Casey, I would be surprised if was used in defense for Hawthorn. His best footy is played in the ruck.

Yep, trying like-for-like Hale replacement.

I genuinely think it's his to lose now with Roughy down.

Hale was a forward- ruck, not the other way around and I don't think either BB or Ceglar adequately replace the forward part of that, maybe not a huge problem with Roughy in there but now he's out we've lost our two most experienced big forwards.

Comments from Clarko about possibly going small to replace Rough make me think even more that he'd like Fitzy to make a strong case for that role and to then be able to replace Roughy with either anu extra small/ runner or perhaps Sicily who still gives the forward line some mobility as a genuine HF type.

As an aside I also think he wants to replace Lake with another smaller player.

Agreed, with no Hale or Rough, Clarko would be wanting a forward-ruck rather than a ruck-forward to give us a bit of height down there. Fitzpatrick can play that role, maybe not as well as Hale, but they'll definitely be testing him out in the NAB Cup games in that role. Fate has provided him a 'cinderella story' if he wants to take it. Talk about being in the right place at the right time...

If Clarko is honest about the small forward line then all we need is a big body to make a contest and bring the ball to ground. Shem could quite potentially do that given he's got both the speed to make a contest and the size to keep defenders worried. Fitzy also has the speed but not sure he has the size (mass rather than height). I'm sure we'll have a better idea after tonight though.

Given our ability to recruit supposedly average players who then perform really well for us, as soon as the other clubs realise we are sniffing around their players they should instantly be asking "what the flap have Clarko and Wright seen in him???" and quickly deciding whether they have massively underrated that player.

I think this holds true for all our potential recruits... except Carlisle which Im sure was just a giant trolling session.

the bloke kicked over 20 goals in less games for MELBOURNE for gods sake. He can play as a forward, just needs to be worked on. lots to work with too.. a bloke that tall with good hands who sprints like a poppy.. lol.. apart from the bouts of unco what isn't there to like.
