I'm appalled at the indifference, poor humour and plain disrespect by a lot on this thread towards this Recruit. Some are even pretending not to have heard of this elite sports star... It's disgusting!

I say welcome to the club Sally Fitzgibbons.

Well I don't know what you mean here , a bit of humour I guess. If not, then I find that making a joke out of this young man's recruitment to Hawthorn, to me is very very offensive in the extreme .

Clarko knows the potential , this young player has had some giant hurdles to cross over , so watch what you say brother. Respect please.

If I have misread your comment or your humour I am sorry, if I haven't you have a bit to learn!

I know we are all trying to be funny, but if you recruit a giant footballer, getting him at the age of 24 is as good a time as any.

Age 24 is probably the age that big men start to mature.

Well, there I was a little worried that most of our competitors have bolstered their lists with players who will give them a boost, and we hadn't gained anyone. I can rest easy now, the flag's in the bag :)

A lot of you are sounding immature and in reality ignorant , I also see that some of you who might follow football "you say" haven't got any idea.

No one can read the future , but this bloke is a very good pick up, and Melbourne have let go something that they may regret terribly.

So much for the coaching might of Paul Roos. Some people let potential fall off the wagon, some people don't know how to get the best and get real improvement out of certain individuals, I put the super ex Sydney now Melbourne coach in that frame. Dees couldn't wouldn't fit this bloke or wouldn't?????

So how have they gone so far, with their planning. Hah!

At Hawthorn we welcome our new comers genuinely not with stupid smart arse comments like some of you.

And there is something else we do at Hawthorn, we take potential and make it first class.

I may be reading you folks wrong but at the moment the stupid smart alec remarks from some of you, make me think you have NO Hawthorn inside you.

Be a Hawk not a donkey!

So we just picked up a guy who was delisted by the worst club of the last 10 years and 'won' an award for the worst play of the year?

But he showed up to accept his 'award' so he must be alright

It showed some maturity to accept the award and take it in the right spirit. Many would not. I haven't watched him play much so can't comment on his playing ability.

He got the 'award' for a silly tunnel ball through the legs to rush a point which was deemed as a throw -- he lacked composure at a crucial stage at the match -- not the first afl player to do that.

Fair to say many players have not thrived at the Melbourne FC -- he may become a better player at Hawthorn. I hope he does well.

McEvoy????? picked up?

Then Hale goes.

What do we all think Clarko may have been looking at?

Consider all our recruiting.Over the last few years!

Our recruiters and coach are bloody genius s' over time, and it doesn't always work out , but I tell you, when I read he'd been delisted by Melbourne I thought , wow wonder if Hawthorn might get him , good fit, well those guys according to some info, had been watching Jack for quite a while.

Way before me , but I always liked him as a player and there is more to come I hope from this lad.

WELCOME HIM HAWKS , LIKE HAWKS DO!

Pull your head in mate. A spud doesn't become a champ because he signs on to the Hawks. Fitzy seems like a good bloke with the way he cheerfully accepted his spud of the year award on fox footy but he'll need to perform miracles to be considered a decent footballer at our club.

You should go back to sticking up for Hirdy and the boys on the ASADA thread.

Hopefully supporters will get around him and understand that ruck insurance at pick 94 @ ~$100,00 is a lot more acceptable and understandable than having someone on a 4 year contract on big bucks like the Power. Besides, not many blokes will willingly accept being 4th in line.

To be honest, I don't see much difference between Jack and Stanley at Geelong for whom they shelled out pick 21 last trade period.

I watch quite a bit of Melbourne and Casey games and He's got plenty of athletic ability and effort. But he has some really big flaws in his game. Firstly he's lanky and unco as hell, he makes some shocking decisions (see the throw rushed behind attempt) and from what I've seen he doesn't read the flight of the ball very well and often runs under the ball or gets stuck at the back.

Now usually as tall people grow into their bodies as they get older and learn to control their limbs(sandilands was unco until 26) Clarko seems to believe that he can teach players to be good decision makers and all evidence suggests that he can.

Experience may allow Jack to improve his reading of the ball and game situation.

Ultimately his ability to learn the game style and soak up as much information and apply it to his game will determine whether he is at hawthorn purely as a backup in case of injury or resting (will only last 1 year if so) or as an AFL standard ruckman/forward that puts on selection pressure and earns himself some games.
