If we lose a single game I'll be backing the Chicken :poo: truck up.

Agree. With These recruits, want to be totally diuretic on LolNorth, the Orange People, That Irrelevant Halo team, Carlspoon. Every game

"Their Grand Final", "Oh big sads, we have to play them at boo hoo ground" should be considered akin to hate speech."

Our percentage win" should be more than just expectation, it should be a realisation and pursued in that manner.

Of course we also welcome back he big Ivan to full fitness as well.:moustache:

If the Nankoldo combo gets rolling again our midfielders will have silver service and around the ground we'll have grunt and intercept marking. Although that means my man Miller is hard to fit in.

Another annoying problem to have if they are fit and in form. Effectively new recruits like Dusty and Soldo coming back from problematic years.

Yes we have been slow starters in our flag year slowly gathering momentum and peaking going into finals. I'd be happy doing that again in 2023. Look at Carlton last year, nailed on top 4 first half the season then missed finals.
Correct, it’s not how you start the war, it’s how you finish it.

Soldo played 13 of the first 19 games, so when he was dropped for the rest of the year he had 5 months of solid footy and a full preseason behind him.
Yes he came off an ACL, but that was in 2020, so he had a full year of rehab leading into the preseason.

His form was a real worry but that was mainly due to him being so slow. The game has got quicker in the last couple of season, the new rules etc and the need for speed has taken plenty of good players out of the game, reckon he might be another one of them, hense they went for Miller. Plus Miller has some decent potential up front, Soldo doesn't.

Apart from 1/2 joking. I reckon Soldo is a great foil for Nank. In 2022 he looked so off it wasn't funny. good VFL form later on.

But if he can get his mojo back he gives us another option to control the midfield.

And yes Nank is #1..

But more to the point, last year we carried players with some serious issues, especially Dusty.

This year we are looking free and good so far. So we start with not only 2 top end mids extra, we have young guys coming through (Cumbo, MRJ, Sonsie etc) and we have players who are effectively returning to full fitness from being severely underdone. All looks good.

I think Soldo is now Nank injury depth.
I notice Soldo has worked on his set shots and was taking them from the 50. But Miller starts the year back up ruck.

It'll be interesting.

Nank = OK tap ruck, awesome around he ground, great physicality, great intercept mark, good skills and intimdation.

Soldo = top end tap ruck, physical monster who controls the ways stoppages occur, OKish intercept mark, and good mark (against comparative short people, not contested) and kick at goal.

Miller = Good tap ruck against 2nd stringers, great around the ground, athlete, like contests

So, given Nank is #1,

1) Soldo probably goes in as the first tap ruck and fills the hole back or forward > Ivan makes our ruck set up dominant/really good, makes the defensive obstacle aspect better, adds some forward firepower (like we need it) but adds not a lot around the ground.
2) Miller doesn't add to the tap ruck much, but adds a lot around the ground

If we want to have a dominant midfield by getting first use then Soldo adds a lot to that.
If we want to augment the midfield and not focus on first use then Miller does that.

Dimma and co know what they want. And I reckon we'll learn over the season what works best. If Nankoldo can dominate the ruck and provide the solid defensive structure back up whilst our mids kill it then we go there.

But if the mids still often only break even then Miller seems logical.

Of course we could try and play Miller as a swingman, Soldo ruck and try to get the best of all worlds.

2nd ruck suits Miller more than Soldo.
Soldo offers very little outside the centre circle.

The last time Soldo played really good footy was in 2019, that's a fair while ago. He only had 2 games where he got over 20 hit outs last year, (from 16 games) Nank had 22 games with 20+ (from 23). He seems to have lost a bit of mobility, not that he had a lot but that happens with age and big fellas.

Besides Nank is a workhorse and doesn't need much of a spell. The good rucks like Gawn, Grundy, Goldstein, O'Brien and a few others do similar numbers.

Bit dramatic lol

Out of curiosity what promises have been made and by whom? Or are you kidding? Sorry I can’t tell.

Dimma and co love a slow start to the season after the 2018 pain. The effort and intent of a team is more important than personnel at the elite level. I won’t be surprised if we drop a few early put it that way.

Great post by YeOld
I'm having a bit each way lol.

But similar to your original point, there are such high expectations in this thread that if we do loose it's gunna be ugly. We all know it. Let's not pretend.

Surely we win though? Is anyone not backing us in?

198 Miller is the prototype is back up ruck 3rd KPF package and it seems Coaches are proriitising that lack of height, but can mark & kick a goal. RFC has had Chol & CJ. Now we have Miller. Young rucked a bit in the VFL didn't he? Lions won the final when Omac went off injured. A KPF rucked.. Swan's used a Port Adelaide KPF reject in the ruck against Nank. Port used Finlayson in the ruck all year. GWS used HH in the ruck a bit.

Soldo might make a bit of a comeback now Dimma can sub him out without waiting for an injury. I'd rather they didn't go down this path though.

Miller may end up being used as a sub at some stage given his flexibility for a big bloke.

No idea what the make up will be but if it’s Soldo I can see him having a big third quarter then handing over the fourth to Nank (where he is at his most influential) and subbing on a Ralphsmith or Sonsie.
