If DGB becomes the top Key position Player we drafted what does this mean for the rest of the team. For example he turns into a gun Key position defender or forward, I feel this will accelerate our rebuild significantly. Want everyone else thoughts

Would possibly fast track us faster than anything else could if we pluck an elite KPP out of nowhere. They transform sides

I don't know if they'll make a song about Denver Grainger-Barras or if he'll have a similar highlights package 🤣

The coodabeens, what an underrated institution of the game. Their songs regularly leave me in stitches.

It's true that DGB's name and combative nature is just waiting for a tune.

DGB fulfilling his potential as a KP forward would change our team more than any other player's development next season.

If we could get 3-4 games of the calibre of his VFL performance where he kicked 4 goals - decisive, urgent, attacking AND converting - that would be enormous for us.

He kicked goals in 4/8 senior games, all 1 goal performances -BUT we should also remember that the team's form in those matches was putrid! We did not score more than 80 points in any of the games DGB started on the field, and only in the 60s for two of those games. Of course some of that is on the forwards, but it reflects much more on the team IMO.

If he can turn a couple of those 1-goal games into 2-3 goals then it changes everything about his contribution to the team.
I think he can get there but he's got to get to more contests and we've got to get better at delivering to our forwards.

2-3 goals would be wonderful, but getting to more contests and having a greater impact in general play is what I would like to see from him (which should result in more opportunities to score goals).

I wonder how bringing in Gunners and Chol might impact DGB's role and his opportunities.
Both you would think would start ahead of him.
Chol doesn't play DGB's role at all, and Gunston looks like he'll be lucky to get in the door at Waverley - wouldn't worry about it yet.

We brought in a small forward, a medium forward and a ruck/forward.

This can't help DGB's cause surely?
2013: Roughead, Franklin, Hale, Gunston, Breust, Rioli and Puopolo

2024: Lewis, DGB, Chol, Gunston, Breust, Ginnivan and Moore

If he's good enough there's a spot for him

Footy has changed. Forward half pressure much more important now. Rioli and Puopolo made up for the extra tall. If we play Lewis, Chol and Gunston, there is no spot for DGB.

DGB has limited forward craft. Reckon his best chance for 150 games is in the backline.

I think Grainger-Barras will be persisted with as a forward. It’s up to him to keep Gunston out of the best 22. That’s who he’s competing with. As of right now he’s still behind in the pecking order. Who knows, a big pre-season to work on his endurance and forward craft and he might force his way into the team sooner than later.

Forward or back, either way DGB is going to have to earn his spot in 2024 with the new additions and Gunners coming back.

Massive pre season for him, career defining in fact. If he can attain an AFL standard fitness base he can make big strides and show off why he was a top ten pick but if he is still blowing up by half time he will be in all kinds of trouble.

Make or break year for DGB. If he fails to fire, he may be out of contract end of next year and with WCE or Dockers very good chances to be last, he could hop to one of them for nothing...
We really need him to show some AFL form so that he gets a new contract OR we can get some return for the 4 years on our list.
I still have hopes he will make it.

You’re right, but we need to structure our team to where footy will be in 3-5 years time. Will a forward line of with one tall and 5 smalls be the perfect structure? Will 4 talls and the resting ruck be too short? Will 4 “Gunston type” players be the go? IMHO, with our fast ball movement tall marking/leading players is what we want.
