What I saw of the game yesterday he played well, being good with disposal. I obviously must have missed the couple of minutes he lost the game for us.
Early 1st qtr he coughed up two goals. Very reactive to his opposite player.

Overall a neat game that would see him required at VFL.

First 3 goals to GC.

Chol marks over Thorpe in an aerial 1-1 after a Tsitas free kick.
Cal Porter kicks straight to Hollands.
Bad kick by Bramble to Sexton.

Not sure how Jeka can be blamed for any of those.
Earlier had a poor kick switching play that the commentators kept going on about but it didn't result in a score. There was another pass to the wing which fell just short of the target and the ball went over the boundary line for throw in.

Cheers, I’ll watch the first few minutes of the game to see what all the talk is about. I had only tuned in just before Brambles bad kick that resulted in an easy goal.

5 disposals (1 turnover) within the first 2 minutes of the game, including an intercept mark, not sure how this is deemed as bad. As ScottMaginness has said it was more the commentary that harped on about it. The commentary team also mentioned that Jeka should be dishing out to the good ball users such as Bramble??? So I’d be taking the commentary with a grain of salt.

The two early goals that were coughed up were both due to errant kicks from Porter and Bramble.

I don’t think anyone is judging him on 1 game.
I don’t know how you could come to that conclusion
If you read the comments here. It’s he’s gone and using this game as an example. The other games he’s played you cannot possibly come to that conclusion.

Jeka had 21 disposals and 10 marks. There is no way you could call that a bad game for a KPD.

The haters are always going to focus on the mistakes. Everybody makes them. FMD, even Hodgey had quite a few absolute clangers and he was one of our better kicks.

Anyone know his actual DE? I bet it is not as bad as some say on here.

Not saying he won't be delisted, but I think he is worth another year, particularly as a key back.

FYI being realistic is not hating, it’s being real.

In my opinion despite the early mistakes, Jeka had neat game, but nothing that yells sign him up for 2024.

I feel Sams style is looking for players to have the ability to run from defence, it’s why Frost lasted in the team for as long as he did with his “frost ball”.

I have been his biggest supporter but even I can’t find a defence now. He just doesn’t go when it’s his turn no amount of skill makes up for that. It’s a huge shame if we worked out we would be in much better shape.
In 2019 Jeka was rated, a year before his draft year (<2020), as a possible top 10 talent for 2020. He slipped to being a rookie in 2020. 3 years on the same issues remain. I think he was a good rookie selection based on hope, but that hope has has dried up.

thanks for the diff perspective.
Sometimes I wonder if people over react bc of the disappointment that he has not yet begun to fulfil his potential.

He was far from our worst and only tall not to really get goals kicked on him. But does seems to polarise on here given number of posts. He’s only 6
older than DGB but seems to be marked differently (ahead of DGB as a defender). No idea about his off field work ethic etc - but seems like he’s high chance to be delisted.

Forgot his DE or possessions. He is playing as a defender first and foremost.

He just cruises around and lets his opponent lead him to the footy. When the ball is in dispute on the deck, he hangs out and isn’t intense enough. Been that way for the past 4 seasons.

It’s not that hard to work out.

Similar to Scrimshaw I gather. Has the skills but looks like he doesn’t work hard enough to some here.

I think you wrote in the Box Hill thread that he is reactive, this is correct.
What stands out is that he always slips back for that easy pass to release the defensive pressure,
never the one running hard to make space, create opportunity.

Has a very defensive mindset (good to some degree) but not what AFL requires in today's modern game.

Scrimshaw has runs on the board and rose to the coaches challenge though. Jeka is yet to have either!
Scrimshaw really doesn’t have many runs on the board and that was seen by him being omitted from the team during the season. Jeka has had multiple hamstring injuries this year, I believe this has held him back from that progress we had hoped for. Get his body right and his confidence in his body and we should see the best of him.

I’d rather have him on the list than Frost.

I don't see it with Jeka. He's a tease, but I don't think he'll put it together.

Happy for him to get delisted. I'm not sure we'll get burnt on this one. We rarely do with our delistings
Constantly watches the man and not the ball - classic junior footy stuff. Was well worth the punt as a rookie but just doesn’t have the ticker for AFL - Just delist him already and move on

Personally I consider 83 senior games, as runs on the board. How ever each to their own!

For someone who constantly watches the man and not the ball, he takes a hell of a lot of marks in defence. Ten on the weekend.

Yep - also…..according to the match committee.

If he worked hard enough, he wouldn’t be playing VFL.

You can’t coach intensity.

and how many of them were contested??
They were mainly uncontested / switch the play kick / marks.

He played the deepest defender (a la Frawley and now Sicily).

Means his kick/marks tally can be pretty high simply because players are kicking back to him to switch play when there’s nothing “on” down the line.

He was getting these uncontested marks and extra kicks purely because he was on own (deep in our defence) as his opponent had moved up the ground as part of their team defence.
