Just to reflect on this:

"List boss Mark McKenzie even flagged last week they’d be looking for a “big-bodied midfielder”. Gun tall on-ballers Mattaes Phillipou and Reuben Ginbey were both still on the board when it was time for the Hawks to select, but they instead went for Mackenzie."

Per the club websites -

Cam McKenzie - 188cm - 83kg
Mattaes Phillipou - 190cm - 88kg
Reuben Ginbey - 191cm - 83kg

It is genuinely baffling how this passes as journalism.

Particularly how he then states that we got Henry Hustwaite (195cm, 84kg) as a steal but fails to mention how he also classifies as a big bodied midfielder.

If Bigfooty forums have taught me anything: 2cm in height difference may as well be 10 metres, so significant is the difference. Let alone (gasp) 3 cm.

It's clear that the author was engaging in a little post-hoc justification for why Hawthorn didn't choose the players that the author considered to be the "best available" at that position. Because, clearly the author has a better appreciation of Hawthorn's list and its requirements than Hawthorn's list managers.

I pointed that out when the article first dropped, doesn't mention Phillipou played half forward and Ginbey spent 50/50 through the midfield and backline. Mackenzie is/was the more purer midfielder of the 3.

He also mention Weddle as a defender but ignore Hawthorn's comments about playing him through the midfield even more daft we Day was already playing midfield minutes throughout the 2022 season even with O'merea and Mitchell in the team.

Trying not to get carried away after 1 outing but he could hardly have been more impressive for a first gamer.

Has skills. A great start. Certainly looks to be massive upgrade on our more recent midfielders foot skills. Looks like his posessions will damage teams.

One thing that caught my ear in monsieur's post game interview.
'Best deck I've ever played on'.......let that sink in for a second.
Those beautiful skills he's shown in junior footy, well they're only going to be silkier and cleaner from here on out on the curated stuff the First team plays on.
Mind. Blown.
Monsieur. 🇫🇷 🥐

A lot in this, I reckon greene has never had better service either 😂

Best first impression since Beau Muston's debut.
Don't jinx the kid please!

Beau was worked out in 5 rounds as someone who could run the lines but had the agility of a fully loaded road train.🥴

Cam's got a few gears still to go, even if he has ups and downs in his first season.

And I missed the orange font /s

Mustons ball drop was from head height. An absolute lottery where it would go
