Not one bit excited about this. At what cost? Rather the Mitchell you know.... Said it before, I loathe trade period.

I love the trade and draft period......you get a glimpse of the future.
What does pick 14 get you in the draft.....if you said you get a Tom Mitchell you would be pretty happy.

The King is dead....long live the king

Welcome Tom. Hawthorn likes to attract good footballers AND good people.

Excited to watch this bloke for the next 10 years

Fabulous that this got done so quickly and for only 1 first round pick.

Titch will add some serious quality to our midfield.

Should he get the famous number 5 or do we give him 10?

Welcome to the family Tom!

Awesome news! But I thought pick 14 would've gone to the Gold Coast. Omeara deal looking shaky at the minute
GCS have said they want a player or players as part of the deal from the start, Swans picks. We're more likely to work with another club on JOM to get the players they want.

I expect the hill compo and a hawk or two will be involved, maybe to Brisbane to get Hanley across to GCS with our second this year and the hill compo

Can we use future 1st rnd & Mayne compo for Hill. Then Gold coast can target who they want. Probably only issue is salary Cap. Hence why Mitchell is being mooted to West coast.
I think future second will be used before future first, limits us next year too much otherwise, or we package some player off for another clubs first maybe

Real circle of life moment today farewelling one Mitchell but welcoming another.

He has big shoes to fill and he might not look as good as he did at Sydney if the other Hawthorn midfielders don't lift/improve with him.

I love Hodge, Lewis, Burgers etc................ but they can't be in the midfield for long periods at their age.

Respectfully invading your board:
I think you can all be confident that he is going to make you happy for years to come. Personally I wish him all the best and hope his deal is for significant $$. I have no doubt I will be sorry we traded him many times in the future. The writing was on the wall for a long time and part of me wishes we had played a bit more hardball, but the sensible part hopes that it was a case of mature clubs getting a deal done that results in what the player wanted.I'm sure if we had the cap room we would have thrown some more on the table but, it is what it is. I reckon you have done yourselves a pretty tidy deal. I'll see myself out and start looking at phantom drafts to see what #14 might turn into.

The Smith Whisperer is about to drop a bombshell involving Sam Mitchell and Tom Mitchell. Click here to find out how they... ah, screw that. I'll just tell you. It's what Barney Stinsin calls 'The Trading Play'.

  • Step 1 - First garner sympathy from other clubs from losing your B&F player to another team in what appears to be a grand gesture towards the good of the player and the game in general.
  • Step 2 - With no Sam Mitchell around, the Hawks now look mortal. All of a sudden, the trepidation of dealing with Hawthorn disappears. 'Give you Tommy Gun for pick 14? Yesterday I would have laughed in your face. Today, I think that seems more than fair. Can we give you a higher draft pick in a later round just because? Sorry, I'm still tearing up from your incredible gesture earlier this morning.'
  • Step 3 - Parade Sam Mitchell around with orphans and hospital kids every time Gold Coast keep making unruly demands. 'BOOOOOO' yells the football community at their heinous manner in dealing with JOM. Why can't they be like that nice boy with the orphans, Sammy Mitchell? With pressure to deal with Hawthorn hanging over their heads, GC eventually trades their man to Hawthorn for a third round pick and two chiko rolls.
  • Step 4 - On the last day of trading, once Hawthorn goes through the same pattern in picking up a Ruck, FF, CHF and CHB, Graeme Wright comes out and announces Sam won't be traded to WCE after all.

Suck on that, AFL community! Just remember, you heard it here first!

The Smith Whisperer - the ONLY whisperer you can trust!!*

*Apart from Robert Redford.

Will be lying if i didn't say i was disappointed but this things happen was one of our best in the finals series has elite in close handballing and evading traffic and can kick a goal or two going forward quite a versatile midfielder only weakness is his kicking but im sure Clarkson already knows that.

He hasn't reached his peak either yet and has a solid 7-8 years of output you wont find a better midfielder for a first round pick imo.

Pumped for Tommy's arrival, the foundations of our midfield for the next decade are being laid this trade period. How can you not be excited for that?

Awesome news! But I thought pick 14 would've gone to the Gold Coast. Omeara deal looking shaky at the minute

Pick 23 and next year's 1st rounder with maybe a fringe player thrown in might do it. If not trade players for the picks and on trade them to the GC. Either way we have enough to satisfy a trade.

Fabulous that this got done so quickly and for only 1 first round pick.

Titch will add some serious quality to our midfield.

Should he get the famous number 5 or do we give him 10?

Welcome to the family Tom!

I can see O'Meara in 5 and Titch in 10. They just look like they suit those numbers to me.

The family club that marched S.Mitchell out the door?

He'll be your best player and is better than Omera.

The family club that offered a contracted player a potentially better payday and possibility to get his family settled a year earlier.

Far superior to the 'bludz kulchure' that has delivered 2 premierships in 83 years.

And that's great that he'll be our best player considering if it wasn't for two former Hawks your side would be lucky to have finished top 4 this year. About time you gave us one back.
