He'll play in an SANFL flag this year. A big FU to the SANFL and for that I'll be thankful.
He's taking about 400k and hes taking up a list spot of ~800 far more deserving prospects who missed out on an opportunity.
GC could've just clurey'd him and we could've put him on the sanfl list anyway.
There's no reason why we did what we ended up doing where all alternatives weren't better and more logical decisions.
Look, he followed the script as you'd expect and has to be positive about the upcoming season. But I'd be much more comfortable if he basically said 'look, I was happy to accept the salary dump trade since I still get paid. I know I'm not playing AFL. Looking forward to getting a kick in the SANFL'.

Look, I get he wouldn't be anyone's first, second or even third choice to be on the list, but his collective work across his career is better than the combined efforts of all the McEntee's/Evans/Narkles we pumped 44 games into just last year.
He is a marked upgrade on what fringe players we have had on our list across the last 3-5 years, and will provide leadership in the 2's and a competent chop out in the 1's if he gets his chance. All the power to him.

Can’t say I was impressed with getting Mr Atkins, especially as recruiters suggested it was for SANFL/depth, but I like the message he is giving in wanting to contribute to the AFL side and play a few more years. So, I hope he surprises.
