This came up in another thread.

The wettest game I have been to was at the Gabba between Brisbane and the Bulldogs. The ground looked like it was under an inch of water.

The NAB Cup opener against St Kilda in the middle of the North Qld wet season was also a classic. You couldn't see what was happening 50 metres down the field it was raining that hard.

I remember watching that on tv, couldnt see a thing.

However, people who can remember games at the old, poorly drained suburban grounds will have quite a few stories.

I remember one Sunday mourning back in U16's that the away ground was flooded when we arrived... Poor drainage or soemthing but it was quite literally like a huge puddle...

Naturally we played on it anyway... My team coming out on top... :D

North and Hawthorn at Arden Street - can't remember the year - my brother and I sat in the rain all day only to see Blighty miss after the siren leaving the Hawks in front. Bugger.

Must have been 76 after his heroics at Princes Park against the Blues earlier in the season.

Geelong vs Fremantle - Round 20, 2004 @ Skilled Stadium
the coldest and wettest day in Geelong for a very long time, can remember the Docker players sitting on the bench in beanies and blankets over them, from memory the final score was Geelong 9.21.75 to Fremantle 3.7.25

There has been plenty of games (especially down at Skilled Stadium) which have had very wet periods during games, the one I can most remember is Round 16, 2005 vs Port Adelaide, the first half was played in cold and windy conditions, then during half time the biggest rain cloud came over and it poured for the entire third quarter, at one stage it was so dark it looked like a night game.

Port V Richmond mid 99.

Bucketed down all night. Off the top of my head, scores were 4.8 to 3.12. Worst and wettest game of footy ive seen live

.

Yep, I remember that- looked like several small lakes on the Gabba. The thing I actually remember most was that was the game the Cricketer's Club changed dress code and banned runners from the club- only problem was that few of us had gotten the notice. It was pissing down all day and I had to turn around and go home to change for the club- not a happy camper- but a fun game to watch. Wasn't that also the Scratertory (Libba) game?

Fitzroy vs Collingwood c.1994 Princes Park - the drains were like lap pools around the north-east side of the field and Matty Dundas kicked 5-goals straight including a torp from the pocket! I think Alistair Lynch may have kicked a lazy 5 too!

At the same venue it was Essendon v St Kilda c.1995 and Wanganeen went ballistic getting severe leath poisoning. I think it was the Bombers by at least 60+ points that day.

Lately, the NAB Cup game involving the Lions and, was it St Kilda at Cairns during the cyclone this or last year?

Richmond Vs Fremantle, Round 3 2003

Around an inch of rain recorded in Melbourne

I went to a North and West Coast at Subi a couple of years ago - it was like someone dropping buckets of water on your head.

everygame at waverley park ever.

one game against melbourne in the early 90s? they won the toss and kicked with the hurricane.

at quarter time the wind seemed to turn around but it was still heavy rain.

3/4 it dried up and the wind was back and they kicked with the prevailing wind again.

last quarter the rain just dumped, I think even the wind couldn't push the rain.

I remember nathan burke kicking the ball, the wind got under it and pushed it back about 20 metres behind him, when he was kicking it forward.

miserable day, we got beaten, and I think even huddling up in the rafters with the 3 other stupid people who came to watch us get flogged saw the wind blowing the rain into every single tiny hidden corner :(

even the dees fans leaving the ground didn't have a smile.

been in plenty of games where you get into the traiin after the game and the water pools at your feet...

Ahh it was Richmond @ Football Park but cant remember what SA team it was against. Scores ended up about 35-28 if I remember correctly, an absolute slog.
That would be against us, and yes, I name that one too.

oh i remember that one, didnt some of the freo player get Relly sick and have to go to the hospital ?

I remeber siting in the rain in my jacket and lookin at this poor young kid sitting next to me soaked and breathing steam and i got a towel out of my bag and wraped it around him poor little bloke, and that was also the day i made up my mind to getone of those indoor type of memberships.

You mean the game where certain Brisbane players ended up with scratches, something very common yet blamed it on Libba with no proof?

2 games that stick in my memory

Adelaide Vs Carlton – round 5 2002 & Adelaide Vs Port Adelaide - round 6, 2006.

Adelaide Vs Carlton
This was Adelaide first win for the season and a defining moment in the 2002 season. This was the game when Mark Ricciuto kicked 5 goals to get Adelaide over the line. It was bloody freezing that day and didn’t stop raining all day.

Adelaide Vs Port Adelaide
The first showdown in 2005 (round 6) Adelaide Crows - 15.13 = 103 Defeated Port Adelaide 8.5 = 53.

The wind and rain was bloody horrendous that night and went straight through you. IIRC the second quarter was the worse and the rain didn’t stop bucketing down. It didn’t rain that much (other than the second quarter) but the temperature dropped to like 3 or 4° that night.
