What’s up with Cripps?

Gerard Healy just made a suggestion re Cripps...play him as a ruck/forward in tandem with De Koning. Actually not the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Seems clear he's struggling with the pace of the game as a pure mid fielder right at the minute. Could be worth a punt...that way we could get rid of Pittonet.
I don't mind it. Solves our problem of finding a decent 2nd ruck for TDK, and letting Cripps spend more time up forward maybe frees up Fisher into the middle. My only worry though is him getting injured, and inaccuracy in front of goal.

I doubt we'll get rid of Pinnochet anytime soon, ruck stocks are thin as it is, Mirkov might be something one day and not sure how long Levi would have left in the side.
Ruck stocks are scarily thin. Assuming we want TDK to be our no. 1 ruck, I don't see a future where Levi/Pitto/OMac are best 22. We either need one of JSOS, Gov or Setters to play undersized as a 2nd ruck, or bring in another KPD to free up Jones.

Change the defensive system so players slide to pick up players instead of being one on one accountable and cripps playing centre forward with more rotations he will be a force again .. he also does not look 90 % fit and well either ..
as for rucking 🥴 he flat out jumping over an ant hill with history of shoulder knee and now back problems -- Healy is having a laugh

Re: Cripps ruck. I noticed during a couple of passages of the West Coast game after Harry went down that either Pitto or TDK would take the centre bounce and then immediately push forward and Cripps would take NicNat around the ground. Didn't seem to have much effect, but they tried something at least....

Cripps remains a limited but valuable player. He isn't being used properly. He needs to be rotated far more heavily used similar to Dane Swan was at the pies, short sharp 5 to 6 minute bursts. What this means is some other players could be rotated less which is pretty easy, as the number of wasted rotations we have of deep fwd who probably get more tired running off could be reduced to allow for him to operate in shorter bursts.
It's a no brainer in my opinion. Play Cripps more up forward, and it allows Fisher to spend time in the middle.

Issue is he can’t kick for goal.

FWIW I think he was very good v Melb, Hawks and Swans and was just ok/good v West Coast.

Issue is the way we play really exposes our guys on the rebound, which is especially glaring for Crippa.

Needs to be a leader without trying to win the game off his own boot.

Crippa looks to me like he struggles with the Captaincy, he want's to do heroic things. Maybe he had read a few too many articles bout himself. IDK.

I do know that peak Crippa was ?? 3 years ago when the beat the Brions single handedly at the MCG. 30 odd disposals and 4 goals.

Doc is a serious failure as Co-Captain IMO.

I wonder if dealing with captaincy while dealing with coming off the knee has been a bit too much.

Interesting idea, but what jumped out to me most was this little tidbit from Barker:

“There’s obviously been a number of conversations around him playing not quite at 100 per cent. I’ve got to tell you, he’s one of the most courageous players I’ve seen up close and personal.”

He also added this when asked:

Healy asked if we will see the “old midfield contested beast” Cripps back to his absolute best once he rids himself of injury and returns to 100 per cent playing capacity.

“I think so,” Barker added.

That to me speaks some volumes. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I feel as though it reads like Barker admitting Cripps isn't/hasn't been close to 100% and has battled through at least somewhat significant injuries. He himself brought up the idea that Cripps was playing injured and when asked about his playing ability once fit didn't dismiss the idea that he's been injured and confirmed he would be back to his best.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I found that revealing.

I think so. Coming back from 2 years off all a player is really looking for is to fit back in to the team, but to come back as captain - after never playing a game as skipper - is a pretty big ask. I've thought a few times it looks like he's trying too hard to make stuff happen, which would make sense if he's trying to prove himself.

Agree or could he be a centre half back.? Jones is a liability and move weiters to full back

If Crippa is not leaving or shopping our offer, where is the signature? It is disgraceful, crippa is captain and the club is in crisis

where would we be without him........................

Six Years...... gulp

Not bad if look at a philosophical standpoint.

If your leader is committed to 6 years while we in this rut, a lot of younger players will follow suit because they know they have someone to lean on whenever we go through a shithole (if so later in the year)
