What AFL record will stand forever?

Not AFL or VFL related, but i played in a game where the full forward kicked 31 goals to bring up his 100 for the season. They kicked 85 goals for the game. (my opponent "only" kicked 17, he was 6'4 and i'm 5'9, i consider that a win for me lol). We scored a point....

The game started roughly 2.20 finished after 6......it was incredible

Where was that game out of interest?

There was a similar scoreline here in a game in Sydney in 1994 when Uni of NSW kicked 81.49 (535) vs Blacktown 0.1 (1).

Blacktown did it tough that year and they folded as a result (well, technically they merged with Parramatta).

Off topic I know, back to the topic at hand.......

Hills Football League in SA

Torrens Valley v Callington.....suprisingly Callington are still fighting on (changed name to United Eagles) and won there first game of footy since about 2008.

Buddy playing till his 36 without missing a game between now and then and kicking at least 3.5 a game LMFAO!

Chewy forgot to factor in that Buddy is good for 1-2 suspensions per year. :p

Not to mention how ridiculously bad Buddy can be in front of goal on occasions.

150 goals in a season.

Happened twice in the VFL I cannot see any one player getting near it with how the game is played now.

I think this will definately be broken one day.

Lockett kicked 127 in 17 games in 1991, had he played full 22 at his strike rate he would have kicked 164.

Ablett kicked 123 from 18 games in 1993, likely had he played full 24 that were available he would also have beaten this.

It will go one day, too many have been close to suggest it is unassailable, the modern game will change again.

By my count, at the age Buddy is now (24 yrs 5 months), Lloyd (926) had just finished the 2002 season, with 506 goals beside his name to Buddy's 412.
Basically a good year's worth.
Richo, same age after 99, was on 374, before going onto 800 exactly, so Buddy's a half-year ahead of him.

All three rely/relied a lot on their pace as a real weapon, we saw how quickly Lloyd deteriorated from a 80-95 goal a year full forward @ 26, to a bullocking crafty warhorse CHF at age 28 or 29, whereas Richo probably kicked on physically, but moved further away from goals, a path that Buddy is probably following closer.

I'm not sure Buddy will even go past Lloyd as a pure goal-kicker, let alone Plugga or Dunstall.

A lot will depend on how his body holds up.

"Heaviest suspension for an on-field incident
Fred Rutley (North Melbourne) – 89 matches (2 x kicking, 3 x striking and melee involvement) from 1925–1930"

I know the Match Review Panel is beginning to get ridiculous, but surely they won't top this record for a suspension?

Jordan Lewis got 2 weeks for resting his head on Monfries
Imagine how many weeks he'd get if actually hit someone and hurt them?

Someone will get a life ban one day for match-fixing or hitting Ray Chamberlain

The Maracana stadium in Brazil when first built had a 205,000 capacity. And it was full for the 1950 World Cup final. Now converted to all seating it holds about 100,000.

In fairness though that record which is from the 50s is distorted as they were packed in like sardines, I can only imagine most of them standing shoulder to shoulder.

To put it in perspective the same stadium currently seats 82,238 spectators.

The MCG volume-wise is a far bigger stadium.

nup, the most seasons in the AFL without a premiership is held jointly by St Kilda/Bulldogs/Melbourne/Richmond IIRC

I dont know where you pulled that from but it would be very weird for 4 teams to all be equally stranded on the same number of years without a flag.

The longest premiership droughts =

  • 72yrs by the Swans (1933-2005)
  • 69yrs by the Saints (1897-1966)
  • 56yrs by Dogs (54-present)

I did say AFL - not AFL/VFL

I think that record would belong to the Bulldogs...

Incorrect - the Dogs joined the VFL/AFL many years after the Saints that were a foundation member in 1897, so therefore St Kilda has been in the AFL the most years with only one flag, even if it was more recent than the Dog's flag.

Who knows, the way they're going maybe Port can challenge it one day?;)

Hawthorn from 1982-1994 made 13 consecutive finals. And that's back when less than 50% of teams made the finals. Very hard to break that record.

Semantics, but the original remark was for the most years stuck on one premiership, in which case the Bulldogs are ahead of the Saints.
