What AFL record will stand forever?

Longest break between games.

Syd Barker: 13 years 12 days, 27-6-1908 to 9-7-1921

A record that will NEVER be broken.

haha! thats great, what a find.

Pluggers record you'd have to think. With the way the game is no FF even looks like getting close to a 100 a season anymore.

The highest score and greatest winning margin are two records that will surely never be broken. In this modern game of shorter quarters and lower scoring, coupled with drafts and salary caps, these two will stand the test of time.

:D

Say that after the Cats play GCS at Skilled this week!

Yeah it shouldn't be broken even against GC. The really sad thing about Melbourne was that it was almost like they lifted a bit when they knew the record was in danger.

What's the bet that the AFL don't get GWS to play at Kardinia next year? That could get very messy depending on what team the get together..

Richmond Football Club 1980 :

VFL Senior leading goalkicker : M. Roach - 112 goals
VFL Reserves leading goalkicker : M. Jackson - 131 goals
VFL U/19 leading goalkicker : P. Lane - 107 goals

1970 Season :

Peter Hudson
Peter McKenna
Alex Jesaulenko all kicked 100 goals or more

Last VFL Premiership winner before changing to the AFL in 1990 : North Melbourne

The main nonsense you've exposed there is the "shorter" quarters.
Time on/off was changed - the actual playing time was not affected. In absolute terms the quarters are longer than before the change and its possible that there is slightly more playing time than before.

Geelong exposed the rest. Although they didn't quite break the two records they set a new one to become the first team to score 50 or more points every quarter.

Dunstall (123), Modra (129) and Ablett (124) all kicked 100+ in 1993

Thanks. I looked up '93 to '95 and forgot to check Modra. I only checked Ablett, Dunstall and Lockett.

Only equals '70. Doubt we'd ever see 4 do it in one season to beat it.

Another one would be 'King' Dick Reynolds, four times Premiership Captain - Coach at Essendon.

It will be hard to see anyone reach 400 games.

I wouldn't bet against Goodes, personally. The sub rule will help someone like him prolong his career, because of his versatility. He never gets injured and is still Sydney's best player. He'll finish the year right around 300, so that's 4-5 seasons after this one. Harvey's also a chance and Pavlich would be as well, for similar reasons to Goodes. And Fletcher's still chugging along...he needs three more years after this one, which makes it tough, but not impossible.

Players who have just hit their late 20s like Ablett, Judd and Dal Santo have already left the 200 game milestone in the dust, so if they are lucky with injuries, they'd only need to keep going until they're 35-36 to get there. And if genetics are anything to go by, Gary Ablett should still be going ok well into his 30s.
