Gary Ablett Senior on Kristian Bardsley

I remember the front page of the sport the next day. Had a three panel picture of the hit. The last panel was Bardsley lying on the ground, face covered in blood. The headline...

"Kristian encounters God" :D

But as for best hit I remember put me down as a +1 for Spalding on McKenna - tone setting as well in the first quarter.

Tony Free on Wayne Henwood was one of the best legitimate shirtfronts.

For mongrel acts, Jim Edmond on Russell Morris.

Biggest 'miss' was Tim McGrath on Tony Evans in the first quarter of the 1992 GF.

Evans had the ball and was bursting through the pack and McGrath came through with the elbow aimed squarely at Evans' head... which he barely missed (they even had a slo-mo replay of the thing - really would've been nasty).

Sad thing for Geelong fans was that Evans kicked three goals and kept the Eagles in the game before they broke away.

It wasn't really a big hit, but a memorable KO, coz it was Mick Conlan getting punched out!

Fitzroy vs Richmond; early '80s; I think Jim Jess was smashed by someone, so Mick Malthouse decided it was payback time, and K'O'd Mick Conlan with a sneaky hook punch, in play, from the rear/side. I was just a young bloke, so I couldn't believe a guy that massive could be knocked out :p

Having said all that, feel free (anyone) to correct me :p

Jess was KO'd by Garry Wilson with a hip & shoulder that got him high. Can't remember the Malthouse retribution but it doesn't surprise me, he was a rough little bugger.

Jim edmond was lining up blokes all day that day, saw the softest bloke on our team and thought he would take him out. Wouldnt have even gone near dermie or dipper or about half a dozen others the weak dog.

Of course it was followed by the scoreboard operator with the "GOTCHA" in big letters whil Fly was having a bit of a spaz attack on the ground.

Biggest hit I ever saw was in a reserves game. Can't remember what year it was but it was a Fitzroy game against Melbourne.

It happened right in front of me. I can't recall the player who was hit but Rod Grinter absolutely flattened him. It was a legal bump too, just a clean shirt front. The kid was out like a light and I swear he turned about as pale as I've ever seen. He looked like he'd dropped dead.

Easily the biggest hit I've ever seen.

I am surprised somebody else remebers that one. It was pretty much right in front of me too.

Whole heartedly agree that it was the biggest hit I've ever seen.

Like you say too, it was a fair and legal bump. Grinter just demolished him.

I remember feeling very concerned for the poor lad who took it. He looked as sick as anybody I've seen. I thought he had died. I cannot for the life of me recall his name though.

I don't suppose there was anybody filming the reserves that day because I would love to see it again. Sickening!!!

jason johnson v john blakey

and blakey was certainly no softy

Exactly.. nothing of malice.. footy played without the third team ruining the spectacle.

The sound of Choppy Pickett CRUNCHING Krummel still remains a fresh spline chilling memory.. and I was 100-150 metres away from that but boy.. on a cold winter night at Waverley.. it was echoeing with PAIN. Ouch!
