couple of things, i would love to see taylor walker start to take some marks over head, that would be good. also it would be good to see some smart leading in the forward line and good delivery that also would be different.

One percenters. Tackle and smother.

Tackle instead of bump, and make it stick.
Throw your body on the boot instead of waving your arms as the kick sails over your head.
When you're on the mark and the opponent is unsure, move in on the player the instant the ump calls plays on.

These are things you can simply decide to do, not just train for and hope. They're not skills that you may or may not have (OK, maybe tackling is a bit), they are all about attitude.

:thumbsu: Fully concur - it drives me up the wall watching players (of all sides) making a "token" effort to smother the ball with their hands outstretched instead of diving over the boot when the opposition is about to kick it - i'm sure these blokes are too scared of getting hurt or their gelled up hair ruffled - i'm way too old to play nor good enough but i could still hellavu smother more balls of the boot than those overpaid prima donnas.

get an attitude, intensity, adrenalin - its all in the mind - Petrenko does it..

more natural passion, fistpumping etc (eg bring back the original Walker when he first came to the Crows (or should i say Norwood :) )

new coach = tick...

simple no frills, does the job football with a touch of class...

and decisive game day strategic coaching.

get the job done...

Forwards leading . Someone actually crumbing the packs all over field but also getting those off the pack easy goals teams get against us.
Making tackles actually stick . get the body in there not outstretched hands . Yes Bernie talking to you and many of your mates .
Someone else as well as Stiffy giving us real run from defence.
Rielly -- Symes -- Douglas -- McKernan sitting in the stands.
Porps play 80 % of a season
Danger and Tippett play to somewhere of their ability .
Walker work harder and put results out there to demand to be main forward focus .
Change of coaches to actually change our game style and attitude.
And have some game strategy and can actually change something if not working.
Cook and Sellar playing against us for another AFL team so help us win and some to see how bad they were.
To get our reputation as a club back.
Probably nice to be able to replace Harper . Maybe Noble would be a suggestion.
A first round pick which already is Brown actually then Crouch actually become star players

Changes for next year...

1. Change in attitude, without it nothing will really change...
2. 1%ers and tackles. Arrowman you are so true:thumbsu:, it is a massive area of improvement.
3. Show some passion, some desire, some pride in the jumper and the club too last game against West Coast is a prime example of lack of pride in the jumper as are the other 90+ smashings we had last season. Want to see passion for the jumper look no further than Pets.
4. Going further, the on field leadership needs to be more evident next season, doesn't necessarily have to be from VB or Thommo, but more needs to be shown.
5. A forward set up that works and a midfield that can deliver to it. Not asking for much I know;)
6. Different preseason, different ideas, I'm sure this week Sando and others are mapping out the work needed to be put in before Christmas.
7. Away strip, hate it.

With the changes that have already happened since Sando was appointed I am upbeat about a change around in a lot of these points. Young squad full of enthusiasm and a chance to really bond as a group and push each other. Exciting times ahead.

Throw your body on the boot instead of waving your arms as the kick sails over your head.

If player started doing this, the other players would just start faking a kick (selling some foot candy!) to cause you to overcommit to the smother, and then run around you.

I agree fully on your other points though. Nothing frustrates me more than watching a player stand there staring at their confused opponent while the umpire yells "PLAY ON, PLAY ON". I assume they just don't hear the umpire or something.

I think you are wrong on the 1st point and right on the 2nd. There is often a split second when the chance to smother off the boot is there. I think what the other poster was saying is that some of our blokes jib when the chance is there and wave their arms instead--I agree.
On the 2nd, yeah, the players can't hear the call over the crowd. Might be wise to keep the peripheral vision on the ump so you can see him indicate play on if you can't hear him call it.

When Tippett is up forward have the midfield use the ball the same as when he is not there! Looks like they see 'The Big Tip' up front and just bomb in Hail Marys every time.
Play Tippett further out from goal, he seems to prefer longer set shots but also doesn't seem phased by playing on or being part of general play running toward goal.
A re-invention of Ben Rutten. Truck is not getting any quicker when it comes to reaction able positions in defense, but would be a nightmare to man up in a forward pocket especially in a forward line already boasting Tippett and Walker, the main snag in this plan is having the Big Body/Experience to replace him down back! Are Talia and L Thompson with Otten the right Big 3 in defense, maybe one of the traded Lewis Johnston or Tommy Lynch may put up their hand.

tipp overhauled his set shot kicking this year and did a fine job of it. if he can learn to lead this year he will be a machine

but mainly i just want our entire team to harden the frig up and gain some respect

Laying a smother is a fine art mate. If you start throwing yourself onto the boot every time players are just going to start running around you. Its one of the hardest skills to execute in the game, hence why you hardly see any laid when a player is on the outside of a pack situation.

Avoiding smothers...that's another thing we really need to lift our game at. So many times you can see it coming and sure enough it happens. Gotta learn to dummy that shit or have the lateral movement to give yourself enough space.

I well understand that and it was an underlying presumption of my point that players for the most part could identify when a smothering situation was apt.
I was not suggesting that they should try to dive over the boot at every single attempt to kick... my point is that some players when they have the real opportunity to do so, squib it.
The fact remains that we have many players that are not prepared to smother when they could/should and yet conversely i would suggest that we have a high proportion of players who have their kicks smothered (suggesting that they dont have the footy brain to avoid it.)

As for your use of "mate" in the tone that you did, either you're patronising me or you almost sound like one of the players i'm referring to reacting defensively due to a guilty conscience :D

He wont play 50 games for his entire career.
Still might not.....
