Strategy What is your teams ideal draft and trade period in 2020?

Nah, Geelong are practical traders. Pick 11 should absolutely be the starting point. If we start there we likely get the middle of the three firsts, if we start at the middle it probably goes out to the third or perhaps even that second rounder.

I'd trade a first rounder for Parish but not 11. He is not a need. Pick 11 gives us the best shot at a KPP which is what we need with Taylor, Henderson and Hawkins not getting any younger. We've got Fogarty, Constable, Narkle and Cooper Stephens as mids not in our best side currently so we don't need to stretch for a mid this year. It's two years time when would be right in the market for a Parish type as a free agent.

Also we did you a solid by winning and giving Hawthorn pick 3. It would seem a bit mean to bid on Campbell after that :)

Exactly! lol

If Hawthorn placed a bid on Campbell, they would go from having pick 3 to pick 5 in the draft. They sure won’t be jeopardising that by missing out on the player that they want. Hawthorn have a good relationship Sydney.

Yes, as competitive as the Swans and Hawthorn are on the field off the field there is actually a lot of trading done between both clubs, and usually pretty fair deals, or if rather one sided it is made up for by a one sided deal going the other way a few years later.

I could be wrong but in the last 15 years I think the Swans have traded more with Hawthorn than any other club.

Doesn’t change our pick at all, cause if they match then Campbell was never an option anyway. I don’t see why we wouldn’t bid on him if we think he’s the best player, if Sydney want Phillips then they pass and let us have him. He’s 100% worth a pick around that mark, and pretty much exactly what we need

I haven’t played this game before. Has anyone drafted Eddie Ford yet?

Trade/Free Agency.

Sign Joe Daniher as a restricted free agent. I don’t want us to, but I reckon we’re going hard for Daniher.

Trade pick 19 to Carlton for Sam Petrivski-Seton.

Trade pick 41 and a future second round pick to Fremantle for their current pick 28 (otherwise they lose it matching a bid on one of their nga kids) and a future third round pick.

Draft.

Draft Eddie Ford at pick 15 (Port go out in straight sets).

Draft Max Heath at pick 28. We need a young ruck to develop.

Match a bid from Essendon at pick 42 on academy kid Blake Coleman.

42 will be used for points towards Cody Brand and Josh Eyre in all likelihood

Trade in- 2nd ruck, one of Nankervis, Coleman-Jones, Preuss, Sweet. If we have room one of Perryman, Caldwell or O'Halloran from the Giants would be ideal.
RFA- Zac Williams.

Best available mids in the draft + match a bid on Blake Coleman.
Between Nankervis, Soldo, Chol and Coleman-Jones, one might go with reduced list sizes.

If you are just after a second ruck/can contribute elsewhere, do you think the Lions would have an interest in Chol? He grew up in QLD so doubt there'd be any issues there.

Coleman-Jones if he does leave is probably more likely to go back home to SA, I think he'd be straight into the Crows rebuild as a KPF/ruck or vice versa with Tex basically at the end.

Correct, it is trash. A whole lot of generic BS for each team.

West Coast's basically says they should possibly offer up a mid-tier player to get back into the draft.

They should contact Geelong about getting Jordan Clark.

Vardy could be squeezed out and it mentions Petruccelle being trade bait, but they obviously missed the memo that he's re-signed.

How do they expect us to convince Geelong to trade Clark to us? First round pick and contracted for 2 more years.

We have no picks (because they have them all) and I can't see any 'mid-tier' players appealing that much.

Yep I'd be keen on Chol, I didn't mention him because I didn't think the Tigers would want to let him go, he was a Lions academy boy as well.

I've heard coleman-jones is very keen to get to gold coast after his tour of the 'facilities' 😉

They don't need him, trust me plenty of GC players have been familiar with Caville avenue haha, I've spotted a few myself when up there in the past!

Clark is by far our best young player our side our current best 22. Wed want a heck of a lot for him and I doubt you guys could or would trade that.

As a first time poster forgive me for the lengthy expression of thoughts..... for me I’m considering this as ideal/practical approach for trade period at bomberland.

Considering list sizes seem likely to reduce 44 to 40 (38 on primary list + 2 x rookies) we will need to look at 10-12 delistings/trades (I have ignored CAT B rookies as i suspect they will remain outside the changes in list sizes).

Mckenna and Bellchambers have retired. 8-10 changes to go....

On the chopping block are Crauford, Townsend, Begley, Mutch, Hibberd, Gown and Mckernan. There is the option to re-rookie here, perhaps Begley and Gown given our limitations up forward.

1-3 changes to go....

Let Orazio return to Adelaide.... his value has dropped however I can’t see it improving in the next 12 month. Based on their current ladder their pick 30 will do the job... perhaps we move our 42 pack to their 50 to get it over the line.

Saad obviously wants out and it’s likely Rutten’s coaching style will stifle his attacking flair. Something in the mid teens seems fair. Perhaps aim for bulldogs first pick with Saad’s nominated club providing dogs with picks (which equals points for JUH) as compensation.

Finally there is Joe... If he wishes let him go. It’s likely we’d receive band 1 compensation with a few clubs vying for his services.

This likely leaves us with picks 7-8 (after NGA bids), something mid teens, something early 30’s and enough points to match for our NGA Brand. If we match for an Eyre bid late in the draft we won’t need points.

Sure this moves out talent but we need to look 3-5 years ahead.... not just for 2021!

Landing Jeremy Cameron would be priority one, however unlikely that may be. I think we at least need to make a pitch at him and not die wondering. Would like to go after Majak to play fullback. Cam McCarthy would be one if we can't land Cameron which is likely. I'd hope we can use our first pick not on McInnes and instead a Key Position player for the future in the 10-20 range but I haven't paid heaps of attention this draft. I think just running some more youth through our list is better. I don't want to do anything by trade as this year will have plenty of de-listings and could potentially find some value in what other teams don't see but I would try and pursue Cameron and convince him to come.

Looks like I need to add to my post from Thursday given some reports guelfi would like to head home and hooker/hurley seem unhappy.

It seems to me that both WC/freo would make a late exchange of picks for guelfi as he would be a useful depth player (and would likely improve in a better team). Perhaps guelfi and our 4th round to WC (around mid 60's) and their 3rd round (mid 50's) back to us or a swap of future picks with freo who don't have the picks this year.

Hurley has greater currency but it worth more to us, his body is slightly more reliable and seems to have better presence within the group. I say keep him however if he was open to opportunities elsewhere I'd take a late second to early third round pick (perhaps geelong... surely taylor retires) or bulldogs (perhaps a future second round pick for hurley and some of our later picks this year back to them for JUH points).

Hooker will go. Great mates with TBC who had a big influence on the group, is clearly not in Rutten's plan so not point finishing his career/contract in the VFL. There will be less suitors but surely someone will dish out a late pick, future or otherwise and take a gamble on his body/form. Either someone in the window needing depth or someone else needing experiencing and on field support with their developing talls.

Obviously there is a great deal of unknown in this years draft and some clubs will opt out however I think this represents opportunity. I'm certain a few youngsters will go late in the draft as speculative picks and turn out to be a steal.... it doesn't hurt having them on your list instead of someone else's.

I've got a few trade scenarios for The Saints. Trade J.Billings in a direct swap for J.Stephenson. Trade J.Carlisle & a pick for P.Wright. Trade pick's for B.Ronke & J.Maibaum. And a future round 1 pick for J.Caldwell. Trade Dunstan & Ross for 2nd to 3rd round, draft picks.

If you want to give us any picks worth points for Ronke and Maibaum they are all yours

Idk but maybe the Suns would be interested. Could replace Day as a Fwd/2nd ruck.

Why would we want Billings

Post was made pre Soldo injury. Now that we are one down already, I think we will be more keen to hold on to Nank, Chol and Coleman-Jones. If we let one go, we'd need to have another ruck coming back somewhere.

Another ruck to possibly take over from or at least support the average John Ceglar.

Midfield class, via the draft or a trade.

A high pressure, crafty small forward.

A future number 1 key defender.

Pretty much need holes filled everywhere.

Don't think we have enough trade currency so i'd say it's via the draft and free agency/delisted players for the Hawks.
