You hardly have to be a genius to amass wealth once you have a decent starting point (e.g a rich family). A bit of unearned generational wealth, some exploitative rent-seeking property investments, using stocks and dividends to steal profits created by everyday wage earners, making the most of financial loopholes set up to benefit the rich. Plenty of options!

Add in a high paying profession and you're off to the races.

Viva La Revolution?

Only 2 places in Australia called Cambridge. One a suburb of Hobart and the other a district in WA. I found that surprising. Only 1 called York ... in WA ... again. Somewhat surprising also ... I thought.
More than one Richmond. Lovely place in Yorkshire, awful joint in Victoria, nonsibad in Tasmania. Skipton Victoria can't hold a candle to the real Skipton.

Bevo spoke for almost 10 minutes on Rohan Smith during his presser.

Emotional Luke Beveridge fights back tears speaking about Rohan Smith’s departure as assistant coach

‘We tried to persuade him to stay at home, but he just kept coming in.’

Holding back tears, Western Bulldogscoach Luke Beveridge has paid tribute to club legend and departing backline coach Rohan Smith.

After 30 years at the club as a player and a coach, Smith - who kept working through a variety of serious health issues - will part ways at the end of the season as part of a coaching panel restructure.
Beveridge became emotional when he lauded Smith’s contributions to the club both as a coach and as a strong mentor figure.

“He’s been a great confidant of mine and he’s had so many powerful partnerships with individuals and players,” he said on Thursday.

“Rohan and I’ve been together from the start. We love him to death.”

One of the Bulldogs’ favourite sons and a dual All-Australian, half-back Smith played 300 games from 1992 to 2006.

He became an assistant coach for the club in 2012 and was a key figure in the 2016 premiership coaching team.

Interesting also Bevo said they didn't want to lose Gia, King, Corey, Hansen and Russell.

Question still remains as to why we couldn't attract experienced replacements other than Lade...

Edit: other than the assertion $$$ being the main limitation, due to Bevo allegedly being one of the highest paid AFL senior coaches.

Bevo has been quite vocal about the effects of the soft cap in the past, particularly over covid. I'm not surprised he's still talking about it.

I don't understand why it's apparently hurt us more than other clubs though..

The facebook fan groups are some of the most mouth-breathing football illiterate people I've ever had the displeasure of reading comments and threads by. They really do take the whole ''facebook is full of dumb boomers'' as a literal motto. I hate bagging other dogs fans but, * some of the dumbest s**t I've ever read has been in those groups.
Oooh look another bOOmEr baSheR yay

Surely he's on a very good wicket since the flag. That'd nore than likely be the reason IMO

Now now, I was only pointing out a long believed motto that ''Facebook is full of dumb boomers'' I never said I believed it.

I am a GenX'r tho, so the dislike for the boomer generation can sometimes simmer to the surface.

Western Bulldogs legend Rohan Smith will depart the Club at the end of the 2023 season, after more than two decades as a player and coach of the red, white and blue.

The 50-year-old has been an assistant coach since 2012 and was in charge of the defensive unit during the drought-breaking 2016 Bulldogs’ Premiership.

Smith’s coaching career follows a stellar playing history at VU Whitten Oval in which he played 300 games for the Bulldogs, claiming two All Australian jackets and elevated into the Club’s Hall of Fame in 2014.

Bulldogs’ Executive Director of Football, Chris Grant, said Smith’s contribution to the Club has been profound over a sustained period.

“Rohan has been a stalwart of this Football Club for over 25 years and he will leave a lasting legacy as both a player and a coach,” Grant said.

“His knowledge, passion and dedication to the red, white and blue was an important element to the Club breaking its Premiership drought in 2016, with his playing days littered with accomplishments.

“Rohan’s 12 years of service as an assistant coach will always be valued by those players and staff he worked alongside. We wish Rohan, Alison and their family all the best for the future.”

Smith thanked the Club and players for their belief and trust in him over the last 12 seasons.

“The Bulldogs will always be a part of my life and it has been an absolute privilege to serve as a player and coach for as long as I have,” he said.

“Winning the 2016 Premiership will remain the best day of my footballing life, and I will treasure the memories and relationships I’ve made alongside all the players and football staff across the past 12 years.

“I’ve always approached coaching with an eagerness to get the best out of the players I’ve worked closely with, and I’m proud of the contribution I’ve made.

“I want to personally thank Bevo for his guidance and friendship over our coaching journey, he’s been an amazing mentor, leader and mate to me.

“Coaching is not an easy caper, and I understand it’s not forever. I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family before I assess what’s next for me personally.

“In the meantime, the team has an important few weeks ahead of it leading into the final rounds of the season, and I’m keen to finish off my coaching journey as strongly as possible.”

Rohan Smith is leaving because of illness isn't he? Surely we aren't turfing him out, especially when we have Spangher and Webb (yes he might go back to WA)

Sounds like illness

Anyone know what he’s dealing with? I hope he’s ok.
He has had long Covid and now has a neurological condition with arthritis-like symptoms, according to Bevo at today's presser. Not sure if the two are related.

Would be very difficult to coach when dealing with the symptoms involved.

His illness may have been a factor but according to this headline "he was surprisingly told his contract would not be renewed".

Sounds to me like its the media who are surprised more than Bubba.

Reading between the lines, I can't help thinking the club has done this to save him from himself, to some degree.

Bevo has hinted at him being something of a workaholic, which won't help his condition.
