So because GWS and Fremantles songs suck, we should abandon a huge and well loved tradition and, honestly, pretty important part of our game?

That's not a knee jerk over reaction at all!:rolleyes:

No all songs suck, not knee jerk reaction, just my opinion as the thread states unpopular opinions about AFL

So you want a new song to sound 'modern'? Go have a listen to a 'modern' song from 5-10 years ago.
Most of the AFL songs are great, classics!

No, I want them to go full stop, if they had to stay then make them a bit more funky at least.

So if you called them both a "n-word" it wouldn't be racist right, because one of them is white?

The n word has no other meaning than a racist one. That's completely different.

Too many teams in Victoria..
Move,
Hawks to Tasmania
Carlton to Canberra
Collingwood to N.Terriorty

And play the Gf at the home ground of the highest qualifier from the last 2 teams standing.

Called for a relocation without mentioning the Bulldogs or North Melbourne, 10 points to Gryffindor

Unbelievable how this isn't a rule yet. Just coz the AFL will make $$$ from a potential 100k viewing.
Yeah man,
Just imagine if Freo had finished higher than the hawks during the 2013 season & Freo then had the option to play the Gf at their home ground.? Wow, you guys could've been the reigning champs...

If people can't see the logic behind pointing out as unacceptable a historically racist insult:

1. to the leading spokesperson of anti racism
2. on the first night of indigenous round
3. on an anniversary of the Nicky Winmar incident

I feel sorry for them and find it hard to believe they're not being overly defensive for some reason.

Whether she meant it because it's historically racist or because she just thinks he looks like an ape, on the occasion you'd have thought we're better off not having those comments.

Goodes also would not have known her age (which is a flimsy excuses any way) at the time of the comment so he wasn't to know he was embarrassing a 13 year old girl on a big stage.

The girl will think twice about what she says in the future regardless.

The president of her footy club however doesn't have such excuses to fall back on and if he was Matt Rendell he'd have his job in question.

What Eddie McGuire said seems to have been forgotten. Much worse IMO because he should reasonably have known the it was offensive and rascist.

I personally would give the girl the benefit of the doubt due to age and the understanding that I too am rather 'ape like' being a brutish and hairy male.

I question whether no. 1 is true, no 3 certainly isn't. The Winmar incident happened on Apr 17, the Goodes one on May 24.
no. 1 A leading spokesperson. the emphasis is on the importance of anti racism to the individual which is the relevant info in my post.

no. 3 once again you're being pedantic. indigenous round last year was binded strongly around celebrating the incident as it was something like the 20? year anniversary. it was touched on plenty in the build up.

For #1, I work with a lot of guys from QLD and NSW and most of them had NFI who Goodes was until he was announced as Aust of the Year, so I don't know how well known he really was outside of AFL circles.

I wouldn't call no 3 pedantic. If the date is different then any incident ever would be an anniversary of the Winmar incident.

it was the 20 year anniversary. the year was the 20 year anniversary. the dates didn't line up but there was much about it in the lead up. definitely pedantic.

as for no. 1 did i say he was the leading spokesman in australia? in the world? he leads the charge in the afl if not one of the biggest voices no doubt.

i think there should be an interstate and a victorian hosted friday night game each week. the twilight game to make way

.

And I work closely with a number of people from Far Nth QLD, and even before Australia Day this year the only two footballers they knew were Adam Goodes and Gary Ablett Jnr. Maybe Buddy Franklin as a third.
Seems like anecdotes aren't everything.

Yeah unbelievable  imagine playing a GF at the shithole that is Pattersons, or yeah let's have the grand final at Metricon :drunk:

Also, it makes sense that when the best stadium in the country, which also has the largest capacity, that is also in the state which will require the probable least amount of travel (GF at MCG - there's only 8/18 chance that teams will travel, GF anywhere else - there's a 16/18 chance that teams will travel) to play the biggest game of the season there. The $$$ is just the icing.

Does anyone else really dislike the contrived and non-spontaneous singing of the song with the camera in the middle? I really hate that fake kind of shit done purely for TV.

The AFL hasn't become unwatchable this year. It's been that way for a while.

I've not been able to sit through an entire non St Kilda game bar the GFs for a few years.

I don't really know if this is unpopular, but it's something I don't get - why, on a whole, the footy media is so gutless. Has anyone ever actually asked a tough question at a post-match press conference? The "journos" at those things are like scared sheep.

I agree, they're little more than sycophants. And shit themselves when guys like Malthouse go on the offensive when losing to Melbourne. That should be their bread and butter.

agree, barely watch an afl game without the tigs in it from start to finish.

only derbies and gfs generate any kind of neutral interest
