I'm being dead serious I was actually thinking of this scenario, similar to what Eagles and Pies did in 2013

* Crows get pick 10 in the draft, 1st rd for example and Dangerfield leaves. Crows get pick 11 compensation

* Crows would have roughly pick 35 in the second round

Adelaide, Trade pick 11 & 35 for Gibbs, still have pick 10 in the draft. Crows winners; while Blues end up with example
Picks 5 & 11 in first rd & two 2nd rd picks

So we pretty much get a downgrade on Dangerfield but we also have to give our second pick...

Yeah... Nah

Bryce Gibbs. March 89 - 26 years old.

Bernie Vince. October 85. Traded October 2013. Aged 28. For pick 23.

Noting that Melbourne were absolutely desperate for a class midfielder. We got that pick for Sylvia and really had to trade it. Adelaide had to make the deal and get in to the draft as well.

So Gibbs would effectively be 18 months younger than Vince if traded at the end of the year. He's having a poor year so far but was near AA squad last year.

Pick 10-14 sounds fair to me. You wouldn't give an elite top 10 pick for him. You wouldn't expect to get him for a late first rounder. A true fair mid first rounder would be a solid deal. Maybe with a swap of 2nd or 3rd round picks. Ie a teams pick 30 for Carlton's pick 40 on top.

The question for Carlton fans is do you want a chance at another Patty Cripps over keeping Gibbs.

First rounder surely? Plenty of clubs, particularly those higher up on the ladder would love him IMO. And while he was shit last night, he had a very good 2014 and plenty of weaker players have attracted high picks.

Beams & 4th rd was worth 5, 25 & Crisp

Gibbs I think 1st Rd (b/w 8-13) pick and mid-late second round pick. But I'd be more in favour of keeping than trading

Hilarious.

He'd be worth a mid first round pick and nothing else. If he continues playing like last night, maybe a late first rounder.

Well West Coast did give up a first rounder for Sharon Wellingham..

And yet on career averages including Wellingham's West Coast years, they're about even in most key stats outside of seagull possessions.

Disposals: 18 (Wellingham) vs 22 (Gibbs)
Goals: 0.58 vs 0.56
Tackles: 3.44 vs 3.58
1%ers: 1.46 vs 1.94
Clearances: 2.72 vs 2.85
Contested Disposals: 7.40 vs 7.54
Uncontested Disposals: 10.72 vs 14.47

:D

Gibbs is too inconsistent to be a reliable centre square midfield option (no heart). He would be a very good mid/flanker though. I wonder if Malthouse will consider playing him off the half forward flank if Cripps and Whiley especially step up in the middle. Strong marking option and a good kick, his I50s would definitely be helpful.

Have a closer read. If Danger leave will be via free agency and teams get compensated depending on ladder position
Your trading the danger compo AND their second rounder...thats the same as danger and a second rounder.

Your post assumes danger leaving is a given.....i dont think its definate.

Normally around pick 10 or so based on form. But, he signed a 5 year deal on big coin and that complicates things.

Either Carlton pay part of his wage or they will have to accept a later pick. Sides pushing for serious finals action would be most interested but they tend to have pretty full salary caps.

Restricted free agent so Adelaide could match and then force a trade.

I just hope Gibbs stays. If Blues stand to just gain a late first round which is crap, we eould be short changed. I stand by mid first rd pick and mid-late 2nd rd pick

Teams don't match for players not wanting to stay at their club
If they can force a trade and get better compensation than the compensation pick then then they might match, they won't match to keep him, just to force a trade

What would you deem fair?

I don't want us too get Gibbs at all, even if danger leaves.

Our midfield is fine even with crouch inured atm, we will 100% spend our first round pick on Aish so your "plan" is irrelevant.

M.crouch, grigg and Lyons can't get games either so we won't be going after Gibbs.

Fair enough. My personal preference is to keep Gibbs. IMO at his age worth bit more than what most ppl are posting, maybe their biased or their honest opinion, who knows!

I wouldn't rule out Gibbs, if you guys are looking like contenders adding Gibbs to a back flank and midfield depth isn't a bad idea.

A first rounder and steak knifes.

Would easily give up a first rounder to have Gibbs at the hawks next year. He's probably worth a little more (or a top 10 pick)

I can only imagine you didnt watch last night?

I wouldn't give a first rounder. Someone might, but I'd be disappointed if it were my team. Pea-hearted waste of talent. Time to see if Adelaide can get something out of him.

What the hell did we do to deserve that?!?!

He's worth 15-30, probably towards the bottom end, but some club will be desperate.
