My Quick 3

2003 Grand Final - For all the reasons listed but to be able to watch the second half in glorious sunshine and enjoy the greatest team of all playing carefree in the knowledge that the Pies had absolutely no hope of coming back is hard to beat. The Ryhs Shaw being the highlight

2001 GF - The moment when Crackers tapped to Black to Voss who goaled and Vossy ran around in front of us giving us permission to start the celebrations - truly emotional stuff for long time Fitzroy Fan and the closest I have ever come to passing out.

2002 - Round 16 - Jonathon Brown runs back into the pack against the Hawks and takes MOTY, then calmly slots the goal. At that moment I knew we would win the flag again, up til then we had been just going but to see the reaction of the playing group just gave you that feeling.

So many great memories.

Could have sworn that was Beau that fed Vossy.

Another overlooked gem is Rnd 18, 2002 vs Essendon.

Sheedy declared that he would be instructing his players to play as if there were "no rules", and the game immediately became known as the "No Rules Match".

The "No Rules" decree suited the Lions players to a tee, and they came to give as good as they got.

An absolute belter of a performance by Brisbane, and along with Rnd 1, 2005, I believe it is the perfect showcase for why we were so feared as a team. Absolute commitment to the man and ball.

Just a rip snorting display of aggression football... Voss irons out Damien Peverill on two seperate occassions with some of the hardest hits of his career (and he laid a few).

Crowd are whipped into an absolute frenzy by the on-field display and some Essendon nuff-nuff hits Chris Johnson with a bottle.

Lions win comfortably by the way. Des Headland was in the form of his career at this stage and his BOG in this game shows just how talented he could be when he wanted to be (with help from teammates).
Oh yeah, that was a footy match!! My favourite, just shading Round 10 2001 v Essendon (THE turning point in our history), '01 GF v Essendon (first flag, although I classed it as number 9, is always special), '02 GF (SORRY BUCKS) and '03 GF (we proved beyond doubt we ruled the AFL landscape).

Can't believe our 1999 match against Fremantle hasn't got a mention!!! We kicked 21.5 in the first half people...... an AFL record!! Come to think about it, we played some amazing footy in '99 - from memory we smashed West Coast by 100 when they were on top of the ladder!

GF 2003. Not much went right in week leading up to the game and many wrote us off. To win so convincingly and against Cockingwood was soooooo sweet, especially the last quarter. In fact any win against them feels good. Cheers. Al:thumbsu:

My fav would have to have been the 2003 GF, I don't think I got more satisfaction out of a win than any other game, not only cos we won the GF but because we beat the filthiest team of all, and by gee were they talking their chances up after beating us in the qualifying final

Apart from that the game against the Bombers in 02 where Hirdy made his comeback (or around that time) was enjoyable, as was another game against them in 04 where they lead us 82-70 at half time (or something like that) and we ran all over them in the second half to annihilate them by 11 goals

Yessir, I am on your page.

If we are going archives 1 of my faves is that 1st semi in '95. Lost to Carltank, but the only team that pushed them for the whole finals series. And the Rog leaping the pack to take a screamer in the dying stages. Vale, big man. Way to go out.

That was the night we finally got some respect as a football club.

It may be poor form to quote oneself, but there were some momentous games in our history as the Bears.

Round 16 that year, and we were 45 points down to Hawthorn at 3/4 time. Half the crowd left. Robert Walls points the finger at the softc****from Melbourne hiding in the shade & says 'thy're f**** The biggest comeback in history & we win by 7 points.

Or the next season -1996. First final ever in Queensland and we beat Essondon at the Gabba by a point after Gavin Wanganeen hit the post in the last minute. The next half hour in the pigpen front of the old scoreboard bar was a time I will never forget. Grown men hugging strangers .

And the next week. Same venue & we kicked 26 goals to obliterate Carltank by 97 points. What joy.

The Bears bought their own little bit of history to this proud club.

There is two games for me. in the 2000-2004 time and it was two in a row.

The 2003 final against sydney at Telstra stadium. The ground was watered before the game which got me fired up for the game....Sydney was smashed and Ash Mcgraths 80 metre goal had me yelling and spilling drinks everywhere.

The grand final vs Collingwood 2003 where we were unstoppable...too many good moments in that game to single any out

2005-2009:

Final against Carlton 2009. 3 losses in a row to Carlton, all games we could have won and in the years before they had always been our bitches and gave Brown 10 goals in one game.

Does anybody else remember the time in the early 90's when Fitzroy beat Adelaide at football park? That was my greatest footy moment growing up. For memory the crows were going well and as always we were supposed to get pumped but when the Adelaide fans started leaving in the last quarter I couldn't have been more proud of the boys. I still remember rocking up to play juniors the next day and the coach was a fitzroy supporter too and he used it as Inspiration. I Can't remember how well my team went but it was a great moment. Obviously now the premierships trump it easily but just love trying to remember "the good 'ol days".

Yes... for no other reason than just before the crowd stampeded out...Ruckman Charlie Manson took a great pack mark at CHF and while walking back suddenly stopped... held the ball above his head and with his other hand signalled something towards the Adelaide coaching box....where ex Fitzroy coach Robert Shaw sat.....Then he resumed walking backwards...took a few more steps back and lined up...The boos from the crowd got louder & louder.until they completely sounded out the commentary team.... Manson casually went through his unusual kicking style.... slotted the major and ran back to the centre bounce...The silence of the crowd was deadly....then as though a planned move the mass exodus began in unison...the crowd just packed up & went home....Well!... to sit for the next 2 hours in the carpark!!

Was living in Adelaide at the time and was the last Fitzroy game I went to. Will never forget it. From the pregame member dinner where Superboot spoke and said he had a good feeling about tonights games, to being roped in to help put the banner up, the nine goal last quarter, to the team coming over to the handfull of supporters after game, to the hangover the next morning.

I remember this game well as it was the day I decided that as I was emotionally unable to commit 100% to the mighty Hawks, who I had followed since I was knee high, well the Bears/Lions was where I had to commit.

I recall at 3/4 time turning to the bloke alongside me at this game and saying the Hawks were gone- it was hot day, way too hot for a Melbourne-based team. Most importantly, Shane Crawford was gone. A great win against a great side.

Though not a BL game, I remember this one vividly like it was yesterday... mind you I don't recall much in between. The game in question was v Melbourne, Round 17 1979 where we kicked 238 points at Waverley. Also highest winning margin for the club, (190 points). Those were the days. I also vaguely remember some big act playing at the Myer music bowl that evening... could it have been AC/DC, or Kiss?? someone messy from memory.

2002 GF...the spectre of losing to collingwood loomed dark...VERY dark...

to lose to collingwood in a grand final is the ultimate FAILURE!!

!!

I was really stressed before this game..and what a shitty game it was...aker's snap over the shoulder was pure relief...the look on eddie's face and his mumbling "country basketball player" was karma

Just bought the 2nd elimination final off name a game. Great match, though I wish it were possible to buy just one quarter, I have a feeling watching the first three won't be all too entertaining. I hope we win! :thumbsu:

No I did not know that...how is that possible? Name a game has been around for as long as I can remember. I don't have foxtel IQ or anything either so I can't record, there were very few alternatives...
