The thing with Caro she is more like a gossip journalist. The game is literally on the lower end of the rung of a ladder for her. While understandably she has no experience of the game at least female journo's like Sam Lane comment on the actual game itself.

She is really all about the titillation factor of the game. If there was no scandal, there would be no Caro.

It used to feel like it was maybe 70/30 to Crows supporters.

Now, if you listen to the media, it feels like it must be 50/50 between the Crows and Power. Maybe even an advantage to the Power.

The crazy articles overrating the home town team's chances that used to be written about Adelaide now are being written about Port.

How did this happen? Or is it just the local media's bias?

Anecdotal evidence I know, but at my workplace there are 60 employees, all born or naturalised Aussies. Of those there are about 6 who you would call supporters (4 Crows/2 Power) and probably 10 who are casually interested (mostly support Power, but have no memberships and don't attend games) and the remainder have zero interest in AFL with most having more interest in Soccer.

I remember not long ago that every person where I worked had a team in the SANFL and either supported the Crows or a former VFL side (prior to Port's entry). I get this feedback from a lot of other people too.

Not to turn this into a political discussion, but you had one of the best functioning governments and economies in the world somehow tossed out, after 18 months of Murdoch-media attacks.

Compare Gillard's understanding of finance and international politics with Abbott's. And yet the Australian public had a year or more of crap about hairdresser boyfriends and pink bats.

It's naive to say that the media can't irrevocably change public opinion. That's why Gina Reinhardt would buy Fairfax, and why Murdoch changed the politics of the Australian.

I'm not saying they're wrong. I'm saying it's clear and obvious.

This is why I think it's naive for people to say they don't care about Port's media presence. The supporter ratio will quickly change if it continues.

Its just a BS publicity spin by the Powertiser where it becomes chic if the Power are seen as the new hip Club to support around town.

The only problem I have with this, is that are there supporters that change alliances? Surely not?

There is no way, no matter how many ACL's, draft debacles, salary cap fraud, or poor performances could ever ever remotely consider swapping Clubs. It just would never happen.

It would take something like the AFC to come out and say f*** off for me to go down that path lol.

But the way I am seeing it today, is that there are people swapping clubs? Is this true or am I succumbing to the Powertiser and PowerAA bandwagons.

I don't know anyone who has swapped AFL clubs. I only know 1 Power supporter who wasn't a Port Magpies supporter. My kids and basically everyone I knows kids follow the same club as their parents. I know kids who support Port, but not any Crows supporters kids. None.

Aren't Port aiming to build their supporter base is Sydney and China anyway? Oh, and who drives a freakin Renault?:p

Burgess and Hinkley are doing their part. Handout helped fund this though. But they still haven't made enough money long term to sustain the spending they need to consolidate success. Winning helps. But they forget that there are 17 other teams that have something to say.

Aren't the AFL funding Burgess' salary?

Those early picks were playing when we were shit too ;)
ah yes but you do realise that MOST draftees take a little time to develop in to their best form right?
At the moment you have most of those nearing 100 games, plus the newer draftees playing well early than usual (Wingard, Wines) as well as a couple of recruits (Monfries, Polec).
Put that together and you have to have a good side.

One more point regarding all this....Whately (is that the correct spelling) tonight on 360 said that Port is his number 2 team. He loves them. So whatever it is that Port is doing is having an effect in Victoria. What we really need to do is win games and it means beating port in the showdown. That will shut up a lot of the media....except Rucci
He changes his 'number 2 team' week to week. Last year it was Richmond, we were for a bit in 2012... it doesn't mean much!

My work - 80ish people - only a handful of power supporters. about 30+ Crows supporters, probably 10-15 season ticket holders. The rest only dabble in their allegiance (mainly Crows) and like to see Crows win, and to see Port and Collingwood, lose. One sociopath barracks for no one, so he says, but passionately hates Geelong and the Crows. Loser.

My 2 cents worth on this, I live and work in Melbourne but spent last week in Adelaide for work.

Had a good chat to quite a few in the office and was pleased to find 80% were one eye die hard crows fans.

Not sure where all this 'Pro Port' nonsense is coming from.... Give it a few losses to the PAF's will be bringing back the bay covers and getting the begging hat back in front of the AFL.

I dont believe we will win the first showdown and will gift the Power two straight wins and a grip on making the 8. :(

I hate to say this but Danger needs to carry us over the line in one of the first three games for us to win.:(

My son attends a primary school deep in the heart of what you would expect to be crows supporter territory. He is obviously a rabid crows man. The vast majority of kids at this school are crow supporters. About 3-4 years ago before my son started there the crows were the team that sent players out to auskick, to visit the school etc. since my son started there over 2 years ago there has not been a single visit by a crows player yet port players have visited twice in the last 12 months. In addition he also plays for a junior footy club in the norwood area and during the season they also had a visit from port players but no crows players. He is a manic crows boy yet in the last 12 months his 3 opportunities to meet afl players in th school /footy club environment has been with port players. What the hell is that about? The club certainly doesn't appear to be doing a great job of trying to engage young kids with the club at least based on our experience. Hell, the school has even had the 36'rs visit but no crows players...

Not sure its quite that bad or negative. We went unbeaten through teh preseason, yes copped osme injuries but have probably 85% of teh list in tip top shape.

Danger/Sloane/Sauce/Thommo/Porps/Wright/Talia/Betts for starters all look in RIPPING form.

Lets see how things unfold !! :thumbsu:

You should write to the club about this.

If this is true most areas I think the club has really dropped the ball.

jenny61_99 do you know who at the club organizes the school and clubs program?[/quote]

I don't know how all this works, no one ever came to my school from either club but this is going back 15 years. The 36ers came all the time and so did the Rams players actually.

It's also possible they get to as many schools as Port do and that their are just some that are missed by one and some that are missed by the other, perhaps the person organising these things on the school side is a Port supporter haha.

Definitely an area the club should look at. I noticed Port had more junior members last year but I think they may of also had 11 game access with their $30 kids membership which they have obviously dropped with the move to AO.

There used to be a Crows In Schools program where classes would do a 4-5 week block of sessions about health and nutrition plus one where they do some football outside. From memory it was the SANFL staff and trainee who delivered most of it but they got a Crows player to come to the football session. No idea if this still happens.

I tried to organise something last year for school to do this year, but were rearranging the Crows in School program at the time for this year.

Then I won a new role and didn't have time to follow it up.

The guys name is Nigel Osborn.

They did last year. Not 100% sure it's happening this year. Live right, feel bright healthy eating program.

Sam Kerridge came out to the school I was at in 2012.
