Interesting article about Brisbanes philosophy during its rebuild on Codesport. It’s on my Apple subscription so can’t post it but here’s some snippets:

Now compare that to us where our strategy during a rebuild is to still try and pick our best side each week and our juniors have to develop in the sanfl and iron our deficiencies whilst senior players get away with theirs and are picked weekly.

Just look at Nank, he could have easily have played more games in 2023, but no his development wasn’t a priority. This year he plays well against Port in a big showdown and then is made sub against ironically Brisbane to fit in a cooked Smith.

Worrell made to wait longer than he should have in 2022 because we preferred to play an injured Doedee.

This year Dowling and Taylor spoken about by Nicks as not being ready with stuff to work on in the media, gees great show of public support and encouragement, only to find their way in due to injury and show they belong. Then we drop Dowling late when we can’t finish any higher than 15th instead of getting more games into him.

The issue is it’s not only Nicks being a Moron, it’s the a pissweak club not coping with criticism and noise that they just need to be higher up the ladder to ease the pressure but the end goal isn’t to win a flag.

So those clappers lauding the recruitment of Murray to coaching director from a winning culture, what say you to the two clubs different approach to actually developing a successful winning culture?

I'd suggest getting a guy in from that culture is EXACTLY what we needed to do TBH.

Yes but how many posters who have backed in Nicks, the club and our strategy will see it that way?

The club was right then and the club is right now is inconsistent but something clappers live by.
I'm no fan of Nicks' coaching at all.

The club, or at least a couple of people in it, were 100% right to do what they've done this time.

IMO we're preparing for a new coach at some stage next year, or we should be.

Nothing ground breaking. It's the Hawthorn model. We said we'd do a proper rebuild, but squibbed after 12 months.

I think you’re giving them way too much credit, this is all about trying to get some extra wins and hopefully scrape in the 8 so they limit the noise and justify Nicks stupid early re-signing.

There's absolutely a possibility of that too sure.

We don't make the 8 this year, he's cooked. And if we start 0-4 again he's gonna need to start looking on Seek

Yep. We didn’t plan on doing a full rebuild in Nicks first year but when we drove us bottom we went for it in the following year, every year since then it’s about trying to win the next game and Nicks has coached accordingly. We’ve even said it publicly that’s our philosophy and it’s it’s worked so well since 98.
