If it compromises the ~ $450k he gets from Hawthorn for doing whatever else he wants, why would he feel particularly compelled?

Best case scenario for the AFL is Clarkson going to Gold Coast at the end of 2022.

I'm sure the money factor can be some thing of a compromise from all parties if its coming down to that.
I would suggest its more about what's best for Clarkson - as we have seen thus far.

Whoever gets the gig is laughing if the rumours about Scarlett and Nigel Lappin making the move is true. It's taken them 2 rookie coaches with next to no experienced, highly rated assistants to work with before realising having decent support in place is the way to go. Sadly they destroyed any chance of Bolton or Teague ever getting another crack in the process, given how both seemed to have suffered mentally in the latter stages.

Wouldn't the new coach select their own Assistants?

When you can't fix the underlying issues over time you get pretty good at masking them at least

Way way way back, my preferences were :

First Line : Lyon, Clarkson

Second Line : Pyke, Voss

My issues with with the second line guys were the training camp for Pyke and whether Voss had learnt from his errors at Brisbane & matured as a coach.

The rumours that Voss has the job don't phase me at all, reckon he deserves another crack at it. Thing is, he ticks the one box that the remaining candidates don't and that is he has previous senior experience.

Hard at it as a player, hard trainer, premiership captain & onfield leader. Has all the characteristics we desperately need right now and his no-nonsense approach should get more out of our mollycoddled players.

Given they’ve secured the signature of Brian Cook I feel that that will provide a lot of confidence and professionalism within the club. He will no doubt be very rigorous in his approach to not just get the right coach but get the right people employed within the football department and holistically through the organisation.

I think one of the big knocks on Voss was that he tried to have a hand in everything.

He will be much better second time around because he won't be able to do that sort of stuff.
