When will the Carlton FC Arrive? Part 2

hehe - You think Collingwood isn't a laughing stock over the mess they made of coaching?

Of Eddie's bullshit?

We still see you :D
Really bloke? When it comes to coaching I don’t think any club has it over carlton. you guys hire and then spit out coach a like there’s no tomorrow.
Collingwood at least have a coach and i do remember reading last week carlton reached out to carlton and asked for advice.

You don't think the media will be constantly hounding him/his manager for comment on what he's doing next year? Even other clubs enquiring about his services, as coach, mentor, head of coaching, or some other similar role?

I'll admit to slight exaggeration...

I think he's a big enough name that he'd be able to put off all the outlets for a bit without hundreds of calls. They like to keep their relationships cozy.

Officially taking time out: Master coach Alastair Clarkson will not coach in 2022 (afl.com.au)

He has.

So really, unless he backflips, he's already made the statement he needs to make.
My point is, this is prior to Teague actually losing his job.
If Clarko comes out at that point and says "I'm intrigued by the Carlton job" (which technically didn't exist at that point), or "I might consider coaching at another club next year", as soon as Teague and/or other coach(es) get sacked straight off the back of those comments, he looks terrible.
At THAT point in time, it only made sense for him to say anything that distanced himself from coaching in 2022.
It could very well have been 100% truth, but it could also just have been strategic. It's one thing to say that you don't want a non-existing job. It's another when the job is actually there for the taking and there's fresh speculation.

But he has no requirement to comment?

His camp has said he won't be coaching next year, Hawthorn are paying him not to coach next year, the AFL will almost definitely 'assist' if Gold Coast or GWS want him to coach there with both Cameron and Dew out of contract at the end of 2022.

So short of satisfying your own decision that previous comments are null and void since Teague was sacked, why does he or his management need to make any comment given they've already said he's not coaching next year?

Each time Carlton make a new decision will Clarkson need to comment?

"Hey Clarko do ya wanna coach us?"

"No."

"Hey Clarko, we've fired Teague, how about now?"

"No."

"Hey Clarko, we've hired Cook, how about it?"

"No."

Have never said that he has a requirement to comment. Simply that the speculation will continue when new developments arise, especially if his camp stays silent. He might be happy for the speculation to continue and doesn't care what the media or anyone else says. That's fine, but it won't stop the talk.

Saying no to a non-existent job is lovely, but it's like me saying that I don't want to be Prime Minister. Even if 100% true, it rings hollow if the seat is filled and I haven't been offered the role. It's also lovely that he says he wants to travel next year. Who knows what will happen in 4 months time? Maybe he'll get his chance to do that, but in the current world climate, you can't blame people for thinking that's just a ruse to throw people off the scent.

Anyway, sounds like it might be a moot point now, with one of our board posters claiming that he has knocked back our last attempt.
Maybe he was genuine on taking the year off. Maybe he was genuinely interested but wanted to consider everything, including the changing landscape at Ikon Park, without the intense media scrutiny.

Classic. :D

Why the fu** would anyone let Brad Scott near a football team?

Dreamin’.
Probably because he has done better than any of your coaches over the last decade?

2010 - 9th
2011 - 9th
2012 - 8th
2013 - 10th
2014 - 6th (PF)
2015 - 8th (PF)
2016 - 8th
2017 - 15th
2018 - 9th
2019 - 12th

Whilst no higher finish than 6th, he was able to get the absolute best out of his team. Evidenced by 2x PF appearances. Imagine Carlton’s list with an approach from a coach like him? It would undoubtedly be a move it or lose it type approach to the group.

You need someone to install a defensive approach, an ability to run hard two ways, and a campaigner to tell people to stay in their lane re off field v on field.

Prediction :

Owies, Cuningham, O'Brien & Petrevski-Seton to be given a one-year extension and told to piss or get off the pot. Dow is contracted for next year so he goes around again with the same POGOTP mantra, same goes for Fisher.

Cottrell, Newnes, Boyd, Gibbons, Ramsay, Parks, McDonald are delisted.

Setterfield, Williamson & Marchbank are traded or paid out.
Marchbank should try his luck at Brisbane. They need another defender and Brisbane can get players fit.

Any chance Sayers has been putting out smoke screens for six months to give Chris Scott cover?
Was just thinking this. What has Scott got left to prove at Geelong? He has taken them as far as he can with an ageing list and they’ve once again missed out on a flag. Clearly Chris Scott can coach. Cook coming over would be a big incentive for him to follow.

THE Carlton Football Club can confirm that assistant coach Cameron Bruce has informed the Club he will depart IKON Park, after accepting an assistant coaching role with the Brisbane Lions.

Collingwood set out a process and got the best available candidate without any fanfare or soap opera.

It’s not really comparable.
How many months later?
And carlton did come out and say "The club will take the necessary time required to absorb this review and any outcomes or decisions will be made on the timeframe that is in the best interest of the club, not based on external expectations or pressure. - they havent gone off track from that.
Just because the media don't like the time its taken...and the nuffies that buy into the media crap does not reflect on carlton at all.

As it states in the article...to take time to study - since this article went live he has found out he didn't make it into the course he wanted....so what happens now?

He gets paid half a million dollars to do whatever he wants with his time, knowing the AFL will fund the godfather of all godfather offers at the end of 2022 to take on Gold Coast?

Whoever gets the gig is laughing if the rumours about Scarlett and Nigel Lappin making the move is true. It's taken them 2 rookie coaches with next to no experienced, highly rated assistants to work with before realising having decent support in place is the way to go. Sadly they destroyed any chance of Bolton or Teague ever getting another crack in the process, given how both seemed to have suffered mentally in the latter stages.

My point is things have changed in the landscape the last 2-3 weeks for him personally and at Carlton...I wouldn't be surprised one bit if something came out today, tomorrow, next week or next month (whenever)...that he is coaching some where. He's already changed his mind this year as proven with departing hawthorn when he said he would be there next year.
There are no absolutes here...until something actually happens.

Excuse me, Essendon CHAMPION Brent Stanton surely was a highly qualified assistant coach after his 0 years of experience coaching pre-Carlton.

FWIW I like the approach North took when they got Noble in with Blakely as a highly experienced coach to work alongside him.

Looks like finally Carlton have realised they need to invest in some high quality assistants.

If it compromises the ~ $450k he gets from Hawthorn for doing whatever else he wants, why would he feel particularly compelled?

Best case scenario for the AFL is Clarkson going to Gold Coast at the end of 2022.
