Something has to change. So what, practically, can change?

1. Dalhaus, Higgins never to play again
2. Zuthrie, Atkins strictly depth players
3. Menegola, Rohan, Cam Guthrie, Parfitt no longer undroppable and need to actively justify their place each week
4. Selwood, Dangerfield, Hawkins only to play if 100% fit and firing and Selwood only to play at most 60% of H&A games
5. New captain, Mitch Duncan or Tom Stewart please
6. Small forwards to actually stay in the forward line with their primary objective being to kick or generate goals, specifically Miers and Close
7. Kreuger to play every game instead of Henderson unless injured
8. Clark to be the starting half back flank instead of Tuohy unless his form is so diabolical that he must be dropped
9. Ban on trading draft picks unless Clayton Oliver wants to come to us for a second rounder
10. Club to aggressively clear out 'project' players who are not developing (Brownless, Jarvis, Okunbor, Taheny, Fort, Jenkins)
11. 'Control' gameplan to be clearly Plan B, with Plan A to be a more contested, faster gameplan that takes advantage of our key forwards and is designed to stand up in finals. We are no longer the benchmark and we need to look closely at what works for other teams and how we can look to do it, but better.
12. Ban on importing any player over the age of 27 or with a significant injury history
13. Focus at draft time on getting the basics right, i.e., no more 'smokies' and 'surprise' picks, just take the best available according to a reasonably broad view of it
14. All players to be made aware that form will dictate selection, not 'roles', and that any player who fails to show the necessary level of effort will play VFL while any VFL player who does now the necessary form will be strongly considered for AFL

All of that can be done within our existing situation. Then going forward, I want to see the topping up strategy in the bin. Yes, if you can get Isaac Smith for free, you grab him. No, you don't trade pick 30 for Shaun Higgins or pay Dalhaus half a million dollars a year.

And the club must become less nervy about blooding and getting games into younger players. Some will sink, some will swim. You will never find out what you have got if you don't throw them in the deep end at some point. If we can't tolerate a few bags being kicked on young defenders, we will simply never develop a defender again. If you can't tolerate a few games where small forwards don't have much impact, we will never develop a forward again. Maybe they need a still shot of the 2005 Sydney semi-final on the wall so that they can remember that even our greatest ever team was once a bunch of inconsistent kids who f’ed up regularly against good opposition.
There is nothing we can do. We are f***. Exactly what I said would happen is about to happen. All our old players are about to retire and we have no youth coming through And topping up didn’t even net us a flag. It was all for nothing. Our next premiership window isnt until at least the 2030s

scott will want to leave when he figures this out and some other coach will be left to pick up the pieces. Assuming someone is still willing to take him. the Pies have already rejected Scott after Friday’s performance. They were into him big time. Arent waiting now. Will Gold Coast still go for him?

How do you figure it'll be at least 8 years before there's any possibility of competing again? What proportion of the 2007 team was on Geelong's list in 1999? Successful rebuilds happen a lot faster than that if you don't have a shithouse culture like Carlton, Melbourne, Gold Coast. Having a lot of old blokes on the list only slows the rebuild down by a couple of years. Draft picks plus free agents could turn things around very quickly.

Yawn.
The sad part is that I knew you would come up with that retort.
righteo, so the same stuff doesnt keep happening. we made a grand final last season. Just get it right if your going to troll, or just copy paste your old 2019/18/17 parrot like comments to save time.

or just even better, save the emotional rants until we are at least eliminated.

Only one i see here posting emotional rants is you. It’s pretty amusing really.

I don’t think i have seen such denial since the iraqi propaganda minister.

Might be best to stay out of this thread if you can’t handle your beloved coach being exposed as a finals failure.

Wow, I think you win the award for the most panicked panic station attendee.

Scott will probably be given until 2024. Outside chance at a serious review in 2023 but less likely I think

This is some of your best work Seeds.

Are you new around here 😉

Reads very similar to past rants - I guess if it's said enough that there's a slim chance of one being right one day... Just when that one day is, is yet to be determined

Chris scott will coach to 2035 unless he walks. He has this job for life.
I don't think that's correct. Professional management, which is what Geelong has, will always back a coach publicly. They will "back 'em until you sack 'em".

If the cats board put out any information that cat doubt on the head coach the whole should be sacked because that's how you turn into Carlton.

My guess is 2024 he's most likely gone, maybe 2023. They'd be comfortable paying out a year early and so he might end up with a 2025 contract even

Wow. The full catastrophe.

No offence, but that is total b.s. Criticism isn't 'disunity', and there are plenty of signs that Geelong post 2011 has become too insular and immune to criticism for its own good. This is a club that turned things around by having a whole club review and player honesty sessions where people's bullshit was called out. As a fan and member it's both my right and responsibility to call a spade a spade and demand better when the club underperforms.

"Disunity is death" is the catch call of those who have a vested interest in not being challenged.

I don't think anyone would be here discussing any of this if the team had played out of their skins to a good attacking gameplan and just fallen short on Friday, by the way...

PS if you aren't fired up and critical after a very good team has lost 8 out of 9 first finals since 2011 then I'm not sure what you want from your footy club. Continued failure?

I agree, criticism is not disunity and members absolutely have a right to question the club on seemingly poor decisions, of which there seems to have been a few lately.

What I couldn’t understand is firstly the timing of the thread and secondly why any cat fan would be labelling us as flipping hand******s. That was a term from the 70’s and 80’s where we were largely irrelevant and a bit of a laughing stock. The club has worked hard to successfully shed that image and we’re now held up as a model club, hated by most oppo fans and somehow continuing to defy gravity, when no other club can.

The club review you speak of was done by Brian Cook who has been there the whole time, so any tough decisions required would be made. We also have Scarlo and Boris on the MC, who I can’t imagine being ‘yes’ men.

I was very angry most of the weekend, but we’re still in it and we’ve shown we can play great attacking footy against good opposition. We have no more ‘away’ games and will bounce back this week and then face a Melbourne side that has a whiff of a side getting ahead of itself. I’m fired up about that. Go cats.

You don’t think the club doesn’t has a reputation come finals just like we always have before 07-11?

we are a laughing stock, I think the nickname is really apt as this list isvery very soft and shows no intensity finals after finals and folds like a deck of cards the minute you apply pressure.

like I said the club have reverted back to the soft mediocrity culture that the club tried to eradicate durring the golden years.

I'd call it a misrepresentation.
in What way? Am i wrong about the finals percentage? Wrong about the lack of decent youth under 26? And please don’t suggest players in the reserves. None are likely future guns. Am I Wrong about head hunting players at the expense of younger players? What was misrepresented?

This is far worse then what we were before 2007. Far worse.
