Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

Kade Simpson (#45)
Brad Fisher (#72)
Eddie Betts (PSD)
Ryan Houlihan (#73)
Andrew Carrazzo (rookie list, via Geelong rookie list)
Jarrad Waite (#46 via father son)
Bret Thornton (rookie list)

Carrazzo is the only one who isn't in our best 22 (in my opinion) but is still servicible due to his ball-winning ability.

Not a bad list. Considering our draft restrictions, we've done well.

Jamison (Rookie list) would be the best of them, outside of Waite obviously ...... Stevens was also a PSD.

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

Sam Fisher, Stephen Milne, Dawsssssonnnnn.

What's the matter with Goodes...he was pick 41

Last time i checked pick 41 was in the 3rd round.

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

From the team on the weekend:

1997 - Tarkyn Lockyer - Rookie Draft - #39 (not bad for a 200 gamer)
2001 - Dane Swan - Rnd 4 - #58
2002 - Nick Maxwell - Rookie Draft - #15
2004 - Harry O'Brien - Rookie Draft -
2005 - Alan Toovey - Rookie Draft - #2
2005 - Shannon Cox - Rookie Draft - #33
2006 - Sharrod Wellingham - Rookie Draft - #10

Others on our list who have played over 30 games:

1999 - Ben Johnson - Rnd 5 - #62
2001 - Paul Medhurst - Rnd 4 - #56
2004 - Chris Bryan - Rnd 6 - #73
2006 - Tyson Goldsack - Rnd 4 - #63

So the best? Swan, Medhurst, Maxwell, Lockyer, O'Brien and Johnson, I guess.

Wellingham will be a gem though.

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

Morris (Rookie)
Boyd (Rookie)
Josh Hill #61
Brian Lake #71
Daniel Cross #56
Lindsey Gilbee #43
Stephen Tiller #54
Picken (Rookie)

Remove Gilbee (round 3 1999) but add Jarrod Harbrow (rookie 2007), Hargrave (round 5 pick 66 1999) and The Dogs have 9 players who took the field against Sydney in the last game.

That looks pretty good for the side sitting third.

You could also add Ben Hudson who was round 4 pick 58 in 2003 to Adelaide

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

From the top 22?

Sammy fisher
Steven milne
Clinton Jones
Zac Dawson
Steven King at 90
Gardiner for nothing
James Gwilt

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

Geelong:

Mathew Stokes (#61)
Matthew Egan (#59)
Max Rooke (#41 RD)

Interesting how few rookie elevations we have on the list, especially as it looks as if both Mumford and Laidler will get the nod at the end of the year.

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

I'm not sure whats more incredible - how many people didn't read/understand the OP or how many from the rookie draft beat rounds 4 => 6 of the main draft - who are obviously taken 20 odd picks earlier!

Andrew Lovett
Nathan Lovett-Murray
Heath Hocking
Hayden Skipworth
Cale Hooker
Tom Bellchambers

are the ones floating around the 22 at the moment.

Sammy Lonergan was taken with the last pick of the third round as well.
Reimers also misses out by a whisker (#48). Was McPhee originally in the first 3 rounds when Freo drafted him?

Andrew Lovett is the obvious pick of those, although I feel Hooker has looked awfully impressive. Curious how few players we actually have on the list from outside the first 3 rounds. Those above, our current rookies, Still, Atkinson and Williams are it I believe.

Geez Vinnie, how could you not include the Irishman!

Per the OP's criteria, you can add in Darren Jolly and Marty Mattner to that list as they initially came off the rookie list at their original clubs.

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

I take "in your team" to refer to Adelaide players when recruited, not just those in the best 22 at the moment. Robert Shirley isn't making it to the team anymore but played almost 150 games and deserves respect for that. He's something like #12 or so in the all time Crows games players list.

Hahaha. Massive fail

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

From the top 22?

Sammy fisher
Steven milne
Clinton Jones
Zac Dawson
Steven King at 90
Gardiner for nothing
James Gwilt

Zac Dawson was originally selected at pick #41

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

more players come of the rookie list because teams can select half a dozen players a year from the rookie draft.

in the national draft, due to list space, most teams stop at round 4-5 only giving you 1-2 players after the 3rd round, some teams may only select the minimum of 3 players meaning they never get to the 4th round.

Re-read the OP, it's players originally picked by your club. King and Gardiner do not qualify.

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

In our current best 22:

Josh Gibson - rookie
Michael Firrito - rookie
Matt Campbell - rookie
Leigh Harding - rookie
Aaron Edwards - pick 82
Scott McMahon - rookie
Daniel Pratt - pick 74
Ben Ross - pre-season
Ben Warren - pick 69

Just outside current best 22:

Corey Jones - 4th round
Nathan Grima - rookie
Ed Lower - rookie

Re: Who are your teams best players that weren't originally picked in the first 3 rounds of the draf

Late-Rounders:

Bruce 64
Miller 55
Whelan 50
Garland 46
Bartram 60
Cheney 53
Buckley 53
Newton 43

Rookies:

Davey
McDonald
Wonaeamirri
Martin
Warnock
Jamar
Valenti
Spencer

I believe Russell Robertson was also a rookie in '96.

Interesting how few rookie elevations we have on the list, especially as it looks as if both Mumford and Laidler will get the nod at the end of the year.
As you'd be aware from the Geelong board, a lot of people believe Mumford is better than Blake so it could be argued that Mumford can be included.

And while these guys may not be in Geelong's best 22 they are currently playing seniors and doing alright.

David Johnson - Pick 81 in 2001 (originally came from Essendon's rookie list IIRC)

Shannon Byrnes - Pick 40 in 2002 Rookie Draft
