Bumped Who DON'T you want to draft with your first pick? (2013)

Marsh.

Not what we need. He's like a cross between Hayden Ballantyne, Steven Koops, Clive Waterhouse and Scott Thornton all rolled into one. We've got enough flighty, unpredictable, talented but unreliable players. We need reliable.

We also need contested marking forwards, not leading forwards, again we've got enough of them.

I also personally doubt he has the ability to improve his lack of footy nouse and unreliable kicking skills to any great length, so would be a huge risk if taken before say mid-late second round.

You'd prefer McCarthy then?
Or some other position needs filling?

McCarthy in particularly with his clean skills but Marsh as well with his great athleticism I think would be well worth early shots to develop as key defenders.

Obviously for need Freo don't really need anything for right now but I agree you need a contested marking key forward to replace (or play alongside) Pav. And I think you need replacements for McPharlin and Sandilands.

Of course you never should turn down best available in the first round as you never have too many running players but I would look at Marsh and McCarthy as defenders and forwards.

Yep...Spot on there Off Shore....Those criticizing Taylor have NFI whatsoever....Kid is a Gun! Hope he gets to pick 24...Now that would be grand larceny!....People would do well to remember that Brent Harvey is only 172cm & has dominated the league for over 15 seasons now!

A Hawks supporter talking sense! Pinch me. Agree.

This could be perceived as "height-ist", But I am really not keen on us drafting sub-183cm players in the first two rounds unless they are one of the fastest ever and have amazing in-game damage factor (technical term :p ) with their kicks. And even then only second round thanks.

Marsh.

Not a key forward. Terrific athlete but a shoddy field kick and poor defensive pressure from the sounds of it. I like the fact that he's a tall mid, and I like the fact that he's a West Aussie even more, but we're good for half forwards at the moment, and he would need to do a fair bit of work on his kicking and footy smarts (and tank and weight) to move into the midfield.

Could be anything. But we can't afford to burn a late first round pick on a kid with potential, when there are highly skilled, smart, hard-running mids still available at that pick.

If you are after a mid with your first pick (which I'm not sure you are) and you let Taylor slide through, well, more fool you.

If Taylor's there we'd take him you'd think. But I doubt he'll be available. Hartung and Acres would surely be considered too, unless we feel the need to stretch slightly for a KF, and then Apeness might get the nod.

Bontempelli. Would get over it i suppose but really doesn't have enough runs on the board for me and is quite ungainly. Big gangly looking bugger who i think will be exposed for pace at AFL level.

I rate Sam Gilbert as a player but i wouldn't use pick 4 on a Gilbert type. Understand Marcus has better scope to play midfield but even still i think he needs to clean things up by hand.

Essentially at pick 4 we could just get someone who's less of a project, with similar pedigree and more of a natural footy player. Anyone around that range is classier than Bonts imo

Michael Apeness/Rory Lobb/Jonathan Marsh but less then the first two.

We need to take a mid with pick 26 not waste our only good pick on a ruckman when we already have Ryder and Bellchambers who will hog the ruck spot.

Bontempelli for me also - awkward size, not really quick and is pretty soft.

On a more serious note, for the pies I really hope pass on Cameron McCarthy as from the little i've seen from him he doesn't look any better then a 2nd rounder, should be plenty of other better options around our first and second picks
