He did have a go and it didn't turn out that well. I still admire him especially now after what he has been through he decided apply for the job.

I'd love to see him coach us to a flag just like every other Essendon person, sadly I can't see him getting this role.

Interesting choice of words..

Edit: also, that last paragraph lol wtf

Carey, who stood aside from his media roles (including at The Age) during an investigation into his ejection from Perth’s Crown Casino, did not speak about that incident.

“For me, to be 100 per cent honest, it was just great to do the interview. Maybe it was closure, but if I do get the job or I don’t get the job, then that’s a full stop on a saga that’s been pretty ordinary for all of us,” he said.

that's the most interesting part for me, he needed to present for actual closure, to put a line thru the whole sorry period of time in his mind.

I understand that rationale for him, but if I were recruiting, that wouldn’t be nearly enough reason to give him the job.

So does this mean Hird hasn't been told to go and do an apprenticeship?

Or was this interview before that info was in the media?

What would impress me more really is if Hird doesn't get this job and actually goes on to apply elsewhere. Either as an assistant or at Norf/Brisbane. At least that would show he is serious about wanting to get experience and be in that role, even if its not with Essendon. If he doesn't go for any other roles and then tries his hand with us next time there's a vacancy then I wouldn't even bother interviewing him then.

If Hird is serious about coming back to coaching he should go to another club and do a couple of years under a senior coach with a proven track record of building a good system. Longmire stands out as a good example of this ...

Call me cynical, but I don't think Yze will work out (hope I'm wrong btw) but if he doesn't it won't be long before the position is up for grabs again.

Depends on how the invited is interpreted when it is reported. The version I heard was they did contact him but it was more along the lines of if you think you want the job then we will interview you but you will need to do the full process and the panel will decide. It was not a James we really want you to apply call.

Not really.

We didn't ask everyone to apply. He made a short list.

What are we doing interviewing him at all?

Robbo’s latest take:

HIRD HOPES DRIFT AS DONS FAVOURITE EMERGES

Mark Robinson

Adem Yze has surged to Essendon coaching favouritism after holding a second interview with the selection panel on Wednesday.

It’s understood James Hird has not yet been contacted to present to the panel for a second time, and Melbourne is preparing to look for a replacement midfield coach.

More interviews are expected to take place in the coming days, but it’s not known who they will be with.

The Bombers want to announce the position by the end of next week.

AFL Head of Football Brad Scott is understood to have told industry figures that he won’t be making a decision on whether he goes through the process until after the grand final.

Yze played 271 games at Melbourne and has been widely regarded as an AFL coach-in-waiting after being involved in premierships as an assistant at Hawthorn and, most recently, Melbourne.

Essendon’s coaching subcommittee includes football boss Josh Mahoney and Hawks premiership player Jordan Lewis, who both have links to the Demons, where Yze now works.

wait... I need context for this ...
does B4L just anoint himself coach at local footy or something?
After the 34 were suspended by WADA B4L posted something to the effect of ‘why don’t the suspended players just run out in round 1 anyway, the AFL won’t be able to stop them’
