Not sure necessarily just about the process ..just seems he's happier doing other things...from that Age article ..back to back paragraphs..

"Ross Lyon has declined to be part of the process to be the next coach of Essendon.

Club sources have confirmed to The Age that Bombers football boss Josh Mahoney approached Lyon recently, but the former St Kilda and Fremantle coach told the Dons he was content working in real estate and the football media."

Which is what he said on classified. He's happy doing real estate and media work unless the club can mitigate his "weariness" and "cautiousness"... whatever the heck that means

He seems the type that the rejection would be a slight against his name. I think it would have been a different story if he was offered the job outright.
Agree. I have the impression he wants to coach but he is very wary / ashamed about the sexual harassment stuff that allegedly happened at Freo. If offered a job great.. but otherwise he knows he will be grilled on his relationships with women - and doesn’t want that to happen.

Shame, I personally think he was the best fit available (provided there wasn’t more to the Freo HR stuff than reported).

2.5 I guess but it’s still a short time frame, they’d have to have a shortlist this week, interviews next week. Make a decision and announce the week after.

Any assistant coach working in the finals series probably not too keen on that, and announcing they’re Essendon’s next senior coach while their team is about to play in a grand final wouldn’t work.

I’d have thought unveiling at the Crichton would make more sense, which is October 3rd. Or the week in between, end of September.
Free agency starts last week of September, has to be by or before then. Probably they’re thinking so that the new coach can be included and in the discussions with prospective players potentially joining. Quite short time frame
No room for error, worried

Free Agency starts on the Thursday after the Grand Final, and trade period the Monday after that. There's the better part of an entire working week in between.

An Yze/Choco Williams double might be the answer. Listened to a podcast recently with Robert Shaw as the guest and he has been wanting to team up with Choco for years to help bring some culture and player development back to the club.
He's very much on the Choco bandwagon, but we burned Williams a few years ago and idk if he's forgiven us for it.

On the plus side, Choco's grandkids might be father-son & daughter for Essendon so maybe there's opportunity there 🤣

Yze is possible but he was on the Solomon bandwagon as well. Shawry doesn't have much influence at Essendon personally, so it's just an old man with an opinion, but he's not wrong.

I think he was probably wary of possible leaking and the pressure of being the job favourite. I can see how he would’ve been legitimately embarrassed by the Carlton process.

He’s been out of clubland for three years now, so I doubt we ever see him as a head coach again.

He must be close with chocco, on the footyology podcasts after the sacking of both cameron and noble, chocco was his immediate response to RoCo asking who was a candidate to replace them.

Back to seeing if Brad Scott would be interested if Ross is out.

Also wouldn't mind trying to coax Shaun Grigg to our coaches panel. Has apparently got a lot of Kudos for work done down at the cattery.
