Speaking of people who I hope applies, Brendan McCartney is someone I'd be interested in.

Excellent coach who I believe was mainly responsible for setting the Dogs up for the 2016 flag.

He is experienced and while he left Melbourne in 2019 after losing motivation, he is worth sounding out to see if he feels refreshed.

Problem is you don't sound out coaches with a process. It is one or the other. With a process, wannabe coaches must apply.

Doesn't stop someone telling a person they should apply though.

As much as I might have liked Lyon in theory, I do think the club has just about reached the critical mass of Faustian pacts that it can sustain.

Glad to hear the club is holding its nerve RE: a fair and balanced process. Not quite sure what there is to mock about that.

Not sure I have the energy to become too invested with whats going on around the Mens team atm.

Everything that happened within the club over the last few weeks should have been done months ago, that way we could have had time to analyze the external review and conducted a more lengthy and thorough search for the coach we need.

Instead we make a last minute pitch to Clarko, set expectations in regards to coaching experience, appear to all and sundry that we are a Mickey Mouse run club to steer clear of.

I have no faith in the club to make the right coaching call atm and think we will all be back here discussing this again in 2 years time when we sack the next coach. More chance of that happening than winning a final in that time IMO.

Thank **** I have the AFLW to keep me occupied for the next 8+ weeks.

I am somewhat enjoying all the people coming out and saying they don’t want the job at Essendon, it’s like a weird self-deprecating meme on twitter 😅

I heard the WB players all hated him

I like the +. It’s nice to still have hope after round 2 😂

Really?

Things couldn’t have gone worse the first time around.
Same with Voss and that was a while ago. McCrae, Voss, CScott came from the same system under Matthews. Leppitsch was a hard defender and has spent significant time in the Tigers system now as well. He would be a high quality candidate.

Wouldn't mind Scott Burns or Rob Harvey - both been around for ages

It would've been obvious that he was not going to get the job after the process, so he "dropped out" just before Nicks was formally announced. It is the same situation as when a player announces their retirement before they inevitably get delisted. Much more dignified to those involved.

There is no way you apply for a senior coaching position, interview multiple times and then drop out because you want to remain an assistant. Come on...
Take it or leave it . I know some behind the scenes stuff from that period.
Not that hard to work out. They asked. He did a couple of interviews and decided for whatever reason he was not ready at that stage.

Barham is learning this is not the plum job he thought it would be.
i am really disappointed buckley will not apply for the position as I believe he is bright and media savvy.
justin Leppitsch would have a hard edge and I believe that Pyke has rebuilt his reputation at Sydney and understands the modern game. imagine if our players applied the pressure Sydney’s players applied on Friday night. We would be fun to watch.
my fear is James hird will get the job by default which would be most troubling unless Sheedy, Harvey and dodoro all left the club so he is not aligned to a faction.
