Who should coach Freo in 2020

Yeah, good ol' Sumich from Spearwood hey

Admittedly, I don't have same reservations that many other people on here have though. He has a track record of success at every level, be it U18's, WAFL or AFL level with WC during the 90's and us during our most successful period. I don't think it's by accident.

The Sumich hate on here is strange.

Agree that it is strange but blindly following a club, political party, cult, religion etc can lead to some strange behaviour and most on here purely saw him as the enemy because he didn’t see eye to eye with our coach.

Apparently cracking the poos and taking the clubs inner workings to the enemy journalist might just upset a few people.Shitting in your own nest could be reason to be overlooked for every coaching gig since.

Aside from the rumours do you really want a coach that will divide the clubs base and who has been out of the senior game for a long time.

Reading through the posts on this thread and there are some interesting posts but I’m noticing a very large number of new posters (debutants and Draftees). What I will say is I find it interesting that every Eagles supporter and friend I speak with says it is a must that we pick Sumich as our next head coach. The same supporters that weren’t overly upset when Sumich wasn’t selected as their head coach a few years back.

There are some very good potential coaches out there and whenever the club make the move on RTB or there is a mutual agreement I would expect a thorough interview and selection process be implemented.

What is a must regardless of what happens with RTB is that we need much better assistants. Seem to have a bunch of Yes men and underperforming assistant coaches flowing all the way down to the development team and Peel.

So when I hear the likes of Crumpets going on about poor culture and RTB being a cancer and it due in part to a full review of all operations including staffing ... then this actually pleases me. A full review is warranted and all assistants, staff, list manager, strength and conditioning should be on notice. Time for changes and that ain’t going to make everyone happy.

If Freo tipped out Lyon and replaced him with Longmuir they'd be making a really strong early call to try and get ahead of the curve. If they wait 12 months, Longmuir will be a Head Coach somewhere else. Basically, if Longmuir is interested - Freo should jump at the chance.

Why Longmire? Interested as to why he is the front runner for so many.
He had left WC before their GF push and I have not heard or read any thing about his Collingwood stint. Has not been mentioned for any of the vacant East coast jobs.

Depends who else is available. Teague and Pike both lived and coached in Perth before.

With Sumich,S alleged white wanting at Freo would an incoming coach accept him as an assistant. Wouldn't the new coach bring in his own 2IC.

Sumich won't coach Freo I wouldn't even bother thinking of it.

I'll gead down to training today and listen to all the sidelines experts tell me that Freo will make finals next year

What makes Sumich an A grade afl coach that will deliver Freo sustained success?

There's a reason why no club will appoint him as thier senior coach

It’s doubtful that Suma is head coach material otherwise he’d be a head coach now, but he’d be a fantastic assistant to a untried coach ala JLo, Scarlet, Carracella, Mitchell, Hodge etc. Wouldn’t be many better options as a quality assistant.

Yeh point taken.
But I can't forget Sumich walking of the ground mid training in pouring rain and when asked why he was leaving by one of the watchers said I don't get paid enough to stay out there in this **it.
Got up the nose of every one watching and then when the other rumours started and he was ordered to leave the club well he lost all of us for ever.

I'd be happy with Longmuir. Maybe the plan is to bring him in as Asst. Head Coach next year as a succession plan?
