Who should we get in the PSD?

True, Sheeds & Choco both like their 'flashy' indigenous players.

I reckon Milera could be one of the real good ones

there's talk we will take jon giles? anyone know much about him apart from being a Port reject? apparently played well in SANFL this year after moving from centrals to Sturt?

I think we will take Jon Giles and he has been my prefered pick for the PSD the last few weeks. Matt Rendell reckons hes the best ruck not playing AFL out there and from playing in Adelaide Rendell would have a bloody good idea about this guy. Has already had 4 AFL pre seasons and 1 League pre season. So hes ready to go in case of injury which looks likely with Hille ATM - we must get back up for him. Hes also started training early for this preseason with us, so good signs.

PSD - Jon Giles
Rookie 1 - T.Milera - if available or choose from genuine midfielder below
Rookie 2 - (Genuine midfielder - Brabazon, Duscher, Sewell, Andreolli)
Rookie 3 - L.Cope (nothing like a massive tall ruck, can always become something)
Rookie 4 - J.Neagle (if gone) - C.Shadbolt

Doubt Neagle will last that long but hopefully clubs get the message that we are re-rookie him. Clubs tend to allow this, Stkilda seem the team we have to be worried about with Neagle. I really hope he lands out the club. Hes as good as anything you will get in the rookie draft that late.

If Neagle lasts that long then he aint worth pursuing...

Oh yeah. I think Essendon will take him with pick 4 in the rookie draft or even the PSD knowing essendon. But i would only give him till the 3rd round pick to take him and if hes gone than, no loss.

Can GWS sign him, because i cant see them passing on him??

That article says that we would likely go for a ruckman in the PSD, not Neagle.

No it doesnt

It says it looks to pick Giles with its first in the rookie draft and it also says its likley to throw Neagle a lifeline. Doesnt really make mention of who we will pick in the pre season draft but by the sounds of it, its leaning towards Neagle with Giles as mentioned in the rookie draft.

Would be very happy to get Curnow

yeah ok, my mistake. I would still prefer that we leave Neagle to the rookie draft though.

I'll keep looking. I am sure there was another article that listed the likely draft order and selections. It had Neagle in the PSD. Damned if I can find that article though. I don't mind which way we go about it.

Giles played with Central Districts for several seasons, but was about 3rd in the pecking order. He moved to Sturt for 2010 for better opportunities.

The knock on him while at Port was his mobility, athleticism & speed.

He was always last in any of the runs & tested poorly aerobically. that's okay for a newly drafted big kid, but Giles never improved whilst at Port.

His ruckwork is pretty good, and he gets around in the slower paced SANFL adequately, but I do not see him ever upping his performance to be a long term AFL ruckman.

As an emergency measure he's better than anything else the SANFL can offer, but he wouldn't be my first choice as a backup ruckman

Hope that helps

Isnt T. Milera on the permission to train list at Port?????

Yep, but that doesn't matter, anyone can still pick him up in the PSD or Rookie Draft

Re: Ryan Brabazon

He is an elite athlete whose running ability is unquestionable. Runs and recieves and carries the ball. With some coaching in a game plan to suit would easily measure up. Considering a lot of your games on MCG and large grounds his running ability would be a huge advantage. Disposals are high effeiciency in WAFL last year. Would only improve with guidance.

Re: Ryan Brabazon

What sort of player is Ryan Brabazon and is he worth picking up in the pre season draft?

He athletically is supreme and even better than i though. A real talented endurance type runner. Featured in the top 10 for (Beep test, 20m sprint, agility, repeat sprints and vertical leap) and i would imagine not far behind in the 3km time trial.

Avg 25 disposals at WAFL level where i watch quite a few of his games. His ideal position is wing and he is a fast line breaking, carrying midfielder with a good i think left foot (might be right?). A massive chance to be at the dons considering he is training with us but i feel a few more teams will be interested. Would really like him at our 2nd or 3rd round rookie pick. Could fill a wing void and the loss of lovett to some extent.

Only problem is his height plays alot smaller than 183 and i doubt he is that tall, did get suspended a few times and is hot headed. Also think he is turning 25 next year so he might not be around at his best when we are in the window.
