Cripps was pick 13 in 2013. Jack Billings was pick 3! Pies had 2 top ten picks ...both busts.
It's a lottery.
Foolish strategy.
Even a worse strategy not respecting the draft.

Particularly when they need to improve the list right now, when their top end players are in their prime.

But as it looks, they're going to have a mid table list for the short to medium term, and then who knows where they will be once Cripps, Weitering, McKay and Curnow start exiting...

We've played finals last 2 years, building nicely.
Lets be honest, this year was less impressive than last for both our clubs. In fact aside from Sydney (who had a "charmed" run) most sides got worse.

Be a lot harder to make the 8 in 2025, we both better have our porridge.

Still above the Pies.
Do you find it interesting that the only times in recent years that Carlton have finished above the Pies on the ladder is when Collingwood have grossly underachieved?

2021 - Pies finish 17th after a semi-final loss in 2020 and before a Preliminary Final loss in 2022.

2024 - Pies finish 9th the year after winning a flag and starting the season as premiership favourites.

The equation is pretty simple - we know Carlton will be mid table at best. If the Pies perform to their potential or even have a half decent year, we finish above Carlton. If we perform poorly, it's a raffle.

With half your best 22 looking through nursing home brochures you better get used to underachieving.

All of Carltons stars are going to be in decline soon... But the Pies retirement village all have plenty of time left they reckon despite being 6-7 years older than most of Carltons stars... Make it make sense

i think if Carlton can take the next big step - actually BEAT Collingwood, this matter could be settled. Arguing superiority when almost everytime they play them they lose is slightly deranged isnt it?

We're just arguing that the position on the ladder is superiority, if Pies could beat Essendon which Carlton did they would be superior but they couldn't.

well clearly it would be pretty silly for us to claim superioty to Essendon after a loss and a draw. some things are obvious - to most people.
