His terms of bet were fair as you were the one confident in Carlton finishing that low on the ladder.

As for time limits, he is taking 2/3 of the ladder, and you are taking 1/3. Be reasonable and ask for double whatever you are offered. 3 months vs 6 months makes way more sense than 3 years.
