Tells us all we need to know.

All that’s left for blooze fans is coming up with an original excuse now once they inevitably shit the bed again despite being hand shandied a dream draw AGAIN by the AFL.

In 2022 it was experience, 2023 it was travel ,2024 injuries….my moneys on the loss of Matt Owies will be the one bandied about by the likes of Edmund/mclure/maher and most other Carlton fan bois
That is stark reading, it's worse than I thought

Who was the one saying Carlton fans were showing fear? To me fear would be coming up with excuses 4 months before the season starts. But that's just me.
Indeed.

Supporters of the 17 other clubs in the competition are extremely fearful of a club that hasn't looked like contending for a premiership for a quarter of a century, and have taken their list backwards in the off season.

The fear is real!

Only three positions lower than Carlton's median ladder position finish since the turn of the century (and half of that time we only had 16 clubs in the competition).
Another go to deflection

Here is the rebuttal

Last 13 GF seasons for both clubs

Carlton 8 and 5, Pies 3 and 10

history doesn't matter to these dirty birds - because they have a hostory - of UTTER shitthebedinGF matches-as many losses as their mates StKlda have spoons...now THAT is a record an uncontentious record of FAIL

hilarious to even have these clowns trying to BS with mini eras and made up faux deflections like 'but but but we are always 'contenders'...

contenders pigsar*e

give it Fudgey just gove it up Carlton OWN your mob always have always will that is why you take such a delight in any Carlton loss...you sad piece of sadsackness.

Problem with that rebuttal is Collingwood has 4(arguably 5 including the draw) GFs in 14 years and 7 since 2000. Carlton haven't even made the top 8 that many times during that period have they? Collingwood will always be around the mark competeting while Carlton look like they could easily go another 25+ years without ever seeing top 4. A top 4 finish would have to be like a finals win for Essendon. At the end of the day one could argue modern day Calton much closer comparison to Essendon than they are Collingwood. You could arguably go further and say Essendon who hasn't won a final in what 24 years have a better modern day finals record than Carlton do.

Well modern day Collingwood make more grand finals than Carlton make finals. I know which one I'd rather be.

So the most current modern day season, Carlton finished higher than the Pies

It really is something to behold, probably Carlton's greatest achievement since their last flag. The 3rd time in 20 years they have finished above Collingwood. I can see why Carlton supporters brag about a failed season as finishing with only slightly higher percentage as the pies to finish above them is an incredible almost incomprehensible feat.

There's that framed timeline, not this year, not 60 or 50 years

Been done to death by both supporter groups

Perhaps, 2025 might be a decent topic

Going back 20 years seems pretty fair especially considering I'm 30 and that's the core of my memory. It's not like going back 40+ years is relevant to modern day footy aswell. 10-20 year reflections seem pretty standard doesn't it?

Footy has been around more than 30 years, but this year would be the most relevant

You can't have it both ways, history is either indicative to the future or it isn't

I'm arguing it is indicative. In the modern era Carlton have fallen off a cliff while Collingwood might have a down year or two but usually bounce right back fighting for top 4 again. Time will tell but I wouldn't be shocked in 2044 I'm here saying look Carlton have only finished above Collingwood 3 times again. Maybe I can be generous and say 5 as surely these stats can't get any worse for you guys.
