Not sure you realise just how much Geelong's older players fell off a cliff last year or how much our youngsters improved. I also think you underestimate how important mature players like Amon, Impey and Frost are for Hawthorn. The first 2 were both top 7 in your B&F.

Haha thank you for telling me how to evaluate players from the team I support. Amazing.

Hawks should be.

They're second premiership favourites for a reason and would've been top 2 in 2024 if you reversed the results of the Cats/Hawks head to head match ups. Maybe even would've been premiers in that case, with a home GF against Brisbane? The only question is whether they let expectations get to them.
Seems unlikely with Mitchell running the show.

He went into great detail at the B&F about some computer coding book he had recently read, where a programmer had written that the first 90% of the code is the easy part and that to complete the code that last 10% is the equivalent of building another 90%.

Made no sense to me and others at the time, but does give a window into how he will be directing his charges about what they need to do in 2025 and beyond.

Such a bad beating, that very same Hok brand is about to be the subject of a pre season documentary series, about to play in numerous prime time games and is outright second flag favourite ahead of your minnow club. Just admit you hate that we’re back and be done with it.

I don’t think any cats fan is ever going to be outright happy to see Hawthorn succeed but we will always be respectful of how regularly they do it and their ability to continually find a way to.

Boasting about having a documentary made about finishing sixth when we are getting shit on for losing a preliminary final we were never expected to make, though, and pretending something that sounds as lame as ‘hok’ is something to be jealous of is… well, pretty stupid.

What’s next, a feature film about Rod Pampling’s share of fifth at the 2005 Masters?

As much as I begrudge Geelong for their recent success and their ability to stay competitive and relevant, I do so with respect.
The same goes for Sydney.

I would much rather see these clubs continue to perform well over and above others like Essendon and Carlton.

Wait, they have a documentary being made after finishing 6th???
lol, that’s hilarious hope it’s as good as the streak.

Just looked at the results of this thread. Wowee. Ok 😝
Guess we could cop injuries like we did in 2023, anything can happen but I’m pretty sure teams might actually put some work into Hawthorn in 2025 instead of ignoring them like this year.
Harder fixture won’t help.

We are always so very reactionary to the season just gone.
No one gave us a hope in 2022 and almost declared us premiers in 2023. Collingwood were going to waltz on through in 2024.
Swans lost respect after a disappointing 2023.
Where’s Carlton? They weren’t meant to go backwards in 2024 after making a prelim in 2023.

If Sam Mitchell can get huge improvement again in 2025, than yeah that would be an amazing effort but I expect reality to hit.

The series will be compelling viewing for all footy lovers as coach Sam Mitchell aims to build on his side’s memorable 2024 finals berth.

With key figures of the brown and gold set to feature, Seven will take viewers behind the scenes in an access-all-areas documentary, as the Hawks embark on one of their biggest years yet, both on and off the field.

Hawthorn CEO Ash Klein said he is looking forward to filming getting underway.

“We couldn’t have reached the heights that we did in 2024 without our members and fans and as we aim to back up our success in 2025, it is only fitting we give them an inner-sanctum, behind-the-scenes look into our pre-season.

I respect Hawthorn for doing a lot right. I also hate them for being our nemesis so often. Seeing them bounce back last year was utterly nauseating. You were supposed to be shit for another few years.

At least after your last period of success we got the joy of seeing you almost merge out of existence before returning to ruin our fun.

But this documentary could be very very funny if things turn south. Hopefully it's another in the "They Know We're Coming" from Carlton or "The Streak" from Stkilda genre.

Year Of The Dog I could understand. It was about a struggling team that struggled: warts and all - they finished second last and actually follows a fan perspective. It was incredibly raw and done for the theatre. This is a puff piece. Anyway I guess it’s not like this sort of thing is limited to the Hawks we see it with any flavour of the month PR exercise on Fox or seven from time to time

I know I shouldn't do this but... Hawthorn is not Carlton or St Kilda. I am looking forward to next season. It should be really entertaining from opposition supporters given what happened last year and what they already have themselves psyched up to believe about hawthorn for next year. This opinion has nothing to do with Geelong they are also not Carlton and St Kilda and a very well run club

I know. Every rational part of me is telling me the Hawks are a good young team that will be right in the hunt over the next 6-8 years.

But there's a tiny bit of me that's wondering if this time is different. That there's a bit much smelling their own farts going on in Dingley and they might fall on their face. Almost certainly not but it would be beautiful if it happened.

Whether the Hawks win every game or lose them all in 2025 the Doco is a Channel 7 construct aiming to bring viewers into the preseason of a club, and as much as Bigfooty doesn’t want to admit it, the Hawks and the way they entertained in 2024 had them at the top of Channel 7’s wishlist as the club to get an inside look at.

This is not a club sanctioned Doco.

Didn’t see anyone boasting about the documentary, but certainly saw someone pointing to it being a consequence of HOK.

Whether you choose to accept it or not Hawthorn in 2024 was arguably the hottest ticket in town.

We’ve seen that now perpetuate itself with the box office fixture the club has been given by the AFL and Channel 7 asking to follow the club over its preseason.

“HOK” might get under your skin, you might even think it’s lame or something no one could be jealous of, but I would absolutely guarantee that a bunch of Melbourne based clubs are going to be trying to create their own version of it(Gawn has even suggested as much) so as to win over media/fixturing/crowds and create momentum both on and off field.

If channel 7 are getting "an inside look" then clearly it is sanctioned by the club.

Well for a team like Melbourne mired in whatever they’re stuck in that would make sense, your team played excellent footy and something to rejuvenate whatever it is masquerading as Demons footy is badly needed

“Work works” and “We’re just getting started”!

No, agreed to by the club. Not club sanctioned.

Channel 7 pitched it to the AFL.

Given the way the club has opened themselves up on social media in the last couple of years it is not surprising we agreed to it.

Maybe there might be other positives like players not want to be seen as taking shortcuts on national TV

The fact some Cats fans are trying to twist an opportunity for the club to be open and accessible to their fans and the footy public which was offered by 7 into the thought that Hawthorn are "over confident" based on the simple acceptance of an offer is just pathetic

Its 2024

You need to offer more for your fans in the way of engagement, being off-Broadway from a commercial sense is not viable

And if you don't take that opportunity, its a detriment to your club and your members

Back to the actual question at hand

Both finish in the 3-6 category

Don’t think anyone is laying the blame directly at anyone and saying ‘you simply shouldn’t do that when the offer is there’ but moreso just going ‘really? Yeah well done but enough already, you finished fifth/sixth we get it.’

So the issue is that we are getting exposure?

We are in a media era where content, views etc make a direct impact on your financial standing

7 approached the Hawks, we didnt commission this project

Have an issue with 7, but there are zero grounds to criticize Hawthorn in this, unless you would criticise all sides bar Brisbane for accepting the offer

It’s not a doco about finishing 6th ya gronk, it’s a doco about the current pre season in the mould of the NFLs hard knocks series. 🤣🤣

If Hawthorn aren't better than Geelong in 2025 then they've cooked it. They chose to go full rebuild and gut their list, so with that means they should have a higher peak and finish at least top 2.

Mitchell is a strong leader for sure but there's a lot of momentum being driven by young players. It'll take effort to keep them on track if they hit a bump.
