Who will be better in 2025? Saints, Demons or Bombers

Trying to be objective here...
1. Saints - a holding year (P8-P10) - confident they are on the right track for the future - very dependent upon big Marshall in the ruck. If he goes down, probably bottom 6.
2. Dees - too much reliance on too few (P10-P12) - if 2 of Max, Trac, May or Lever go down for any length of time they are bottom 6 material. Coach gone by end of season regardless
3. Bombers - (P14-P16) - I have my doubts about the coach. They still seem lost in trying to find their way out of saga-induced doldrums.

Long past the saga doldrums. Just general “being shit” doldrums now.

Dees have the most talent on the list. For at least next year or so they would be first. Then saints and them Dons.
Saints I just don’t think they have the elite talent on the list. The questions for me are on someone like King and if he can take the next step. They’d be wanting Philipou to take the next step pretty fast.
Dons didn’t seem to add to their list and in fact losing Stringer will be a hit. Also seem to have stuffed some recent draft picks. The 2020 draft could haunt them for a while.

These threads are pathetic but I’m tired of not seeing my team in it.

In my opinion

Saints
Demons
Bombers

It's really up to Melbourne.

If the Dees AA or AA40 players, i.e. Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, May, Lever, Fritsch, Viney and Salem (8 players) all have good preseasons and remain injury free then they'll be back in the top 4.

Add Pickett, Langdon, Windsor, McVee, van Rooyen, Rivers and Petty (in defence), and they're simply better. And they're not just better than St Kilda and Essendon, they're better than most teams in the league.

There will be lots of egg on Bigfooty groupthink nuffies within a few months.

Rivers ahead of Lever, Oliver and Salem for me. For 2024 performance and 2025-beyond projection.

I didn't rank them.

Btw, Oliver will be back to or near his best and Rivers is nowhere near that.
Where did I say you ranked them?

Oliver won't be back to his best. His best was 100+ coaches votes in a season. He won't get near that.

You undersell Rivers. I think going forward he becomes a top 6 player for Melbourne.

No, you undersell Oliver.

Oliver played last year with a fractured thumb, was unfit and fat, and had a knee issue that required surgery at year's end.

At his best, most Melbourne supporters have him as our best player.

The late Phil Walsh's favourite stat was ground-ball gets. He thought it was super important. Oliver was number one in this stat for 5 of 6 years between 2017 and 2022. I think people (not you) forget how good he was.

At just 27 it boggles the mind why people don't think he can return to his best. He's happy, injury free and hasn't missed a beat all preseason.

No doubt Cat's fans would be talking him up if he'd joined the hand baggers last trade period.

Salem belongs nowhere near discussions of the AA squad. Seriously mediocre footballer over the last 3 seasons.
