U have to be kidding judd 05
Carrazzo is so much better than Boyle and Hawthorn would snap that up in a heart beat i would think. WE DONT NEED BOYLE. Better using our draft picks

I think your're wrong on what selection number we will get. I t is looking more than likely that there will be three teams which only win under 5 games. This being the case they will each have an extra pick. Therefore if we finish around 10th or 11th we will get pick 9 or 10 as our first pick and then next pick is well into the 20's at around 26 or 27.

This year the teams will get there priority picks in between the 1st and 2nd rounds, as they all won more then 4 games last year. You only get your priority pick at the start of the draft, if you win less then 4 games 2 year running ;)

No more players that can't kick. The Hawthorn module, if u can't kick u don't get drafted. After todays destruction of our backline, whose the closest thing to O'Keefe in the draft? What a great dynamic he brings.

We........a rank outside chance of the top 8, just lost to our bogey side of the last 8 years who is a top 4 chance........BY 2 POINTS........after leading them all day.........

I think you are overreacting a little.

That was a 10 goal better effort than last time......and we didn't play all that well.

BE happy we are moving the right direction rather than this over-dramatisation.

BTW, if our backline was just destroyed, why take an "ROK" type?

I meant it would be nice to have a guy like that to destroy opposition backlines. I thought our backline was great today besides the ROK matchup, it was midfielders like McVeigh n Goodes pushing forward that did the damage.

Now I'm confused DB.:D

I would not be surprised to see:

1. WCE - Natanui/Rich
2. Freo - Rich/Natanui
3. Melbourne - Watts
4. Port - Hartlett

As HBF was indicating, I think we are right in the mix for the next pick, finishing below the Tiges and Dons.

I think both the Dons and Tiges will be looking for mids as they have done some KPP recruiting Dons - Gumbleton, Ryder, Nagle.......Tiges - Thursfield, Moore, Riewoldt, Hughes, Morton.

Dons may look at Hurley to replace Fletcher/Michael and sure up the back half in the coming years.

Tiges, well, who knows. Their KPP's are all utility size so maby ot Ziebel......maybe a Yarran to ease Brown out.......

I have heard some very good things about Johnstone, but he may not be the best at our pick.

Would love to get Ziebel but he sounds a similar player to Gibbs, and maybe we need a taller marking option.

If we get pick:
5. Hurley - best available KPP, put Waite back up forward and let Jammo, Bower, Austin, Hurley and Browne become the best backline in footy over the next 5 years.........defence wins flags.
6. Ziebel - would take Wiggins/Russ lead up HFF spot in the team, push Fisher deeper.
7. Too high for Johnstone or Trengove?.......maybe McKernan (carry on that proud Carlton tradition :p)?

There is a lot of talent, and some good talls this year. We may well get Ziebel and take a tall with our second pick which could be as high as 24-26.......depeding on trades of course.

Do we trade Boyle for Thornton and swap 2nd round picks?

Then again, if Hartlett plays out the rest of the year in the seniors and plays well, that will change the landscape as well.

Lets wait and see in October when we look at trades, and we have seen draft camp. It may throw up some surprises.:thumbsu:

Nooooooooo!

Boyle is terribly average. The club knocked that offer back last year and it won't change this year. Boyle is a poor mans Fisher with tissue paper hamstrings.

I've heard you complain about Hartlett continually break down, Boyle is the same. Has only strung one season together, and the rest have been injury riddled due to hamstring injuries.

That just seriously makes no sense at all.

Just wondering if you guys think that cornelius wouold still be available for our second pick? Watched him in the game against vic country the other day, and he impressed me. Booted 4-5 goals, from very, very limited opportunity. Took many contested marks, and kicked beautifully. Thoughts?

very good draft which will supply good players until the mid 20's.
we will probably end the season with picks 6-8, 22-24, 38-40.
there are 6 stand-outs (in order of quality)-
watts
rich
naitanui
hurley
hartlett
yarran

i would be happy with any of those players.

Please god not another midfielder (unless they were speed freaks who could also play FP).

In ranking, who are the best NATURAL(!!) CHF's in the draft? I wouldn't like to draft Hurley and throw him forward, he's made his mark in defence, so that's where he should stay.

Draft Hurley, throw Waite forward

Backline of Jamison, Austin, Bower, Thornton and a big bodied CHB would be fantastic and would basically complete our defence. (Browne, Armfield, Anderson all developing as smaller backs).

So we should knock back the chance to draft another classy mid like Gibbs just because they're not quick?

We still have too many young players and established players who can't kick, so I don't think you can honestly say Carlton doesn't need another midfielder.

Bentick and Carrazzo won't be in our best 22 when we're playing finals.

2008 appears to be a good year to have pick five or six when we could get our hands on a player like Joel Selwood who has played better than anyone in the draft. The bottom four will get a gun and a franchise player, but we will get the type of player our list needs and yet another young gun. A player like Rioli who has made Hawthorn a better side and given them the quick crumbing and defensive forward they needed.

A class inside player like Selwood or a ball user/hard nut like Hodge would complement Judd, Gibbs, Walker, Murphy and Stevens and do wonders for our onball division.

We've missed Hadley's size and versatility as much as we've missed Walker.

I hoping for a Hartlett/Ziebell or Johnston with our first pick after Austin's promising second game on the weekend. It's still early to pass on one of these players if they're the best available to draft for need. We've done that in the past with our second or third round picks and picked a Hampson and Austin to address the ruck and CHB. ;) :thumbsu:

If Watts doesn't nominate then I don't think he will get past the Dees, and if the Bombers finish below us then they may also be looking for a Fletcher/Michael replacement.

But if he gets through then I'm with you.:thumbsu:

Best available with our first pick, and then see what happens after that.

Seeing as the top 3 are lock this year (Watts, Rich, NickNat), that means if we stay where we are, we are guaranteed to get one of Hartlett, Ziebell or Hurley.

I can live with that.

Jack Watts is still not 100% certain to nominate. Wants to stay in Melbourne to complete year 12 next year, and unless Melbourne finish bottom, and indicate that they will take him, he may opt out of this years draft.
