Does anyone here also rate Trengrove higher then Hurley? Because I certainly think that Trengrove would be a better prospect. I like the way he moves, he doesnt shy away from a contest.

Trengove has amazing leap - its very Burton like and has a lot of X-factor. Great contested mark and has tonnes of courage. Someone will take the risk with him, he is a definite first rounder IMO.

So you dont rate him higher then Hurley?

i think it would be worth a look to draft Jason Davenport with a late pick or even in the PSD. A very smart midfielder who won B&F at Geelong reserves and was on the senior list for 2008. He's only 23 and seems to fit the mould of youth down at carlton.

Not sure about overall rating, but as far as Hurley's aggression towards the contests goes, I have it on pretty good authority that

he'd kill a bloke to get the ball.....

Same build but much more explosive than Cale.

Hard to see him getting past West Coast's PP/2nd round pick, could even go 1st round.

First time i've seen anything of Blight but have heard many good things about him plus his coach (i think) saying he is the closest thing to Judd.

What was the reason he was overlooked for the WA Under 18's team this year? Do you know?

Just wondering, if Rich happened to slip to pick 6 do you reckon Hughes would pick him up?

I would think so, obviously would depend on who is available. He isn't afraid to take players from WA and would definitely help out at the stoppages. Wouldn't think he'd get past the Bombers though, which i think is much more of a possibility than many people think.

Yeah, his Midvale FC coach did pull out the Judd comparison :D Personally I see more Goodes.

Numbers game with WA selection, mate, quite a few good players missed out IMHO. He's been a big improver though no doubt, very raw at the start of the season, and still is to an extent, but has come along in leaps and bounds, just improved every game. Swans mate was saying he was very close to a WAFL debut late in the season, but they wanted to keep him in the colts as they were in finals too and he was a key player - can't keep taking all the good youngsters out of the Colts with Naitanui, Yarran, Pearce, Banfield, Wolfenden, J.Garlett etc. all in the league team and eligible for Colts.

If we were going for best available, then without a doubt.

Yeah, I think he could definitely slip to Essendon was just as much in their draft thread just recently.

Is Hughes normally a best available man, or does he go more for the needs? I'd think you guys would be pretty comfy with your midfield prospects, but never hurts to get another potential A-grader and end up with a WC 06 calibre midfield to scare the shit out of opponents!

The was what HBF had to say in the WH National Draft Strategy thread:

From what I am lead to believe, WH and the recruiters just have their list of players from #1 through to #100, and just cross their names off the list when they have been drafted. When it's our turn, we take the best available, after some discussion I would have thought. I think it's just a coincidence that we have taken quite a few players from outside of Victoria.

Yes. But he won't. I suspect Carlton wouldn't have bothered interviewing Watts, NicNat and Rich at the draft. They'll be well and truly gone before we have our selection at #6.

But wasn't he in the rooms...................? :D
